On the subject of substitutes I’ve been thinking about the 1N914 diode and w hether it could be replaced by the 1N4148?

In the partslist for the 1V/Octave Voltage Controlled Oscillator the diodes are only refered to as High Speed Sw Diodes.
Could the 1N4148 be used here as w ell?

The 1N914 and the 1N4148 are almost exactly the same. I haven't come across a circuit w hich quotes one and doesn't w ork
w ith the other. You can how ever get diodes that sw itch faster than either of them.

Does anyone know if the LM324 is a good substitute for LF444?

I can't see anything w rong w ith it.

I'm not an expert at reading Op-Amp specs though.
Pinout, and pow er supply are fine, so I'd give it a go.

LF444 is a JFET input opamp, LM324 isn't. So no.

By the w ay, I'm currently building RJW 's VCO and found that replacing the LF411 and LF442 w ith their TL "equivalents"
doesn't alw ays w ork. I can't get the 1V/Oct scaling right w ith these substitutes in. So the exact specs might be essential in
some applications.

This might also affect the LF444 used in the SL's oscillators. I got mine to w ork w ith TL064's, but judging from my
experience w ith the VCO, the original LF might have been better.

the "equivalents" are picked up w hit only equal pinnouts . not by the specs

Pretty much any quad JFET input op-amp with the same pinout will do to replace the LF444 and pretty much any dual
JFET input op-amp with the same pinout will do to replace the LF442. I chose these because they draw very little current

I should probably add that my LF411 and 442 are still on order, so although I can't get the VCO to w ork properly w ith TL061
and TL062 replacements, I can't yet say it does w ork w ith the LF's! I'm just assuming that the reason I can't get it tuned is
because I tried replacements. All other components are as specified and it does w ork fine apart from the tuning.

Yeah,

they're fine.

Denm ark

If Rays design uses these diodes you can NOT use the 13600 in stead of the 13700.

I do not know if this is the case though.
