Essay Archery

Archery is one of the oldest sports known to humans, dating back over 25,000 years. It involves using a bow to shoot arrows, storing kinetic energy in the bowstring and transferring that energy into the arrow on release. Archery has evolved from a means of hunting food and warfare into more of a recreational sport. While guns replaced bows for most purposes by the 1890s, archery continues as a popular sport around the world today and has been part of the Olympic Games since 1900.

Essay Archery

Archery is the practice or skill of using a bow to shoot arrows. The word comes from the
Latin arcus meaning ‘bow’ or ‘arch’. Archery is one of the oldest sports, and art forms,
known to man. Dating back to before 25,000 BC, archery has evolved and grown from
simply a means of killing food and warfare, to more of an art form. There are two main
things to consider when looking at archery and the physics concepts behind it. First
there is the bow, which basically is a device that uses human force over a distance and
converts that into stored Mechanical Potential Energy. The second factor involves that
stored Mechanical Energy being converted once again into Kinetic Energy when the
string is released, almost all of that Kinetic Energy is transferred into the released
arrow. Another way to look at a bow is in respect to a spring, a bow is almost like a
spring that is storing energy that is to be transferred into the arrow once the string is
released.Today, archery is a very common sport present in many areas of the world and
throughout many different cultures.

For example in English culture there is story about Robin Hood im which, he used his
bow to steal from the rich and give to the poor, while combating the evil Sheriff of
Nottingham.

In the early history of Turkey, bow with three arrows was simbol of the Oguz Turks.

In Africa, there have been arrow heads that have dated back to before 25,000 BC, and
may be dated as far back as 50,000 BC. This suggests the use of a bow and arrow at this
time. Archery was probably developed in accordance with the spear thrower, or atlatl.
For the prehistoric humans, archery was the most effective means as to kill their food.
The best hunters used this method to subdue prey from long distances. Archery first
appeared in the Olympic Games in 1900 and was contested again in 1904, 1908, and
1920. Women competed in the 1904 Olympics, making archery one of the first sports to
include events for both genders.

Archery has been losing when guns are invented. About 1890's bow and arrows were
only used for fun.Kids use it for play .

However archery has bad sides one of them is that you can hurt yourself or somone else.
But if you are carefull you will not have problem.

To sum up,I think that archery is interesting and I personaly love it. I love archery
because I am impressed with history, of Arabs Turks as wel as Indians. I didn't train
but my father made a bow with arrows for me and I use it.
