Right QL Pain Case Study Analysis

A patient presented with right QL pain and tightness. During a squat assessment, their weight shifted to the left side. Muscle testing found the right gluteus max was inhibited while both QLs were strong. Trigger point release of the right QL resulted in the right gluteus max becoming strong on retesting. Further directional testing identified the right QL as a facilitator and right gluteus max as an inhibitor. Treatment of stretching the right QL and activating the right gluteus max resolved the patient's pain and imbalance.

Sample case study

Style 1:
Patient presented right QL pain and tightness. I had him do several body
weight squats. He did not have pain with this move, but his body weight
slightly shifted to the left side while squatting. I tested his both sided QL,
and both were strong. And I tested his right sided gluteus max, and it was
WIC. I TL his right QL, and when I retested his gluteus max, it got strong. I
did the directional testing on him again. I tested his right QL first, it was
strong, and tested his right gluteus max right after, it was weak. His right QL
was facilitator and right gluteus max was inhibitor. I released his right QL by
stretching and activated his right gluteus max by repeating the test. After
the treatment, I retested and challenged again. I tested his right QL first
and right gluteus max, both of them were strong. And he felt the pain and
tightness of right QL were gone, and more steady when doing squats. I sent
him homework with stretching his right QL, and doing right sided single leg
body weight squat.

Style 2:
Complaints: Right QL pain and tightness
Movement assessment: Body weight squat: no pain, but body weight shifted
to the left side.
Muscle testing: Both QL - SIC
Right gluteus max- WIC
TL- TL right QL and tested right gluteus max, gluteus max was strong.
Directional test- Tested right QL first and right gluteus max immediately.
Right QL was strong, and right gluteus was weak. Right QL was facilitator
and right gluteus was inhibitor.
Treatment: Released right QL by stretching and strengthened right gluteus
max by repeating the test.
Challenge and retest: Tested right QL first and right gluteus max, both of
them were strong. He felt the pain and tightness of right QL were gone, and
more steady when doing squats.
Homework: Stretching his right QL, and doing right sided single leg body
weight squat.
