Bog Child – Part 3

Read Chapters 34, 35 and 36 and 37 (pages 228-259) and answer

the questions that follow. If you need to catch up on other sections
of the book – please do so. Most of the questions, are bronze
however you may aim for the silver or gold medals 😊

Please label your work clearly with the correct question number
beside each answer so I can follow your work properly to provide
feedback.
Chapter 34

1. Catch up: What was revealed about Mel at the end of second 2?
2. How is Mel feeling at the start of the chapter?
3. What reason does Fergus give for not going to Mass? And What do you
think is the real reason?
4. Read the extract in italics on page 230.
 Look up the words ‘malign’ and ‘incubus’
 Explain what Mel might mean by this, in your own
words.
5. Why does Fergus agree to Michael Rafters’ request?
6. What does Fergus mean by “OK, Mel, my girl… If you can do it,
so can I”? (Hint you will need to consider Mel’s words in
italics on the same page)
7. Write down 4 new words that you came across and look up their meaning.

Chapter 35

8. Rewrite the most important parts of Fergus and Uncle Tally’s

conversation as a text message conversation. I have started this for you
below as an example:

Ferg: Hey Unk. The scenery is unreal today, how come we

live down in the shadows in Drumleash? Why didn’t you
ever leave this place? It’s depressing ☹

Unk T: I know it’s really beautiful by the coast… but I find it

a but depressing there too…reminds me of death ☹ Please
I’m so used to this place, be scared to leave really…
