Ask yourself, if I know the cost of 1 and I have to buy more, (what must
I do?) Multiply (x)
If I know for 1, I can find for any amount OF THE SAME (more)
by multiplying.
Problem: If one pencil costs $3, then what is the cost of five pencils?
1 pencil = $3
5 pencils = $3 x 5
= $15
Ask yourself, if I know the cost of more and I have to find for one (what
must I do?) Divide (÷)
If I know for more, I can find for one (less) by dividing.
Eight identical pens cost Tim $24, what is the cost of one pen?
8 pens = $24
1 pen = $24 ÷ 8
