Chapter 2 - DCS Installation Installation process 5

Installation process
The installation process has several stages.
Check that:

n The machine meets the hardware and software requirements described in this guide.

n The machine has previously been licensed for Prophet and/or DCS. If this is not the case, see Licensing overview on page 27.

n The installation media is available or accessible from a network storage location.

Then:

n Choose and install a compiler.

n Install the Data Conversion System.

n If you will be using Microsoft Excel files as inputs, install the Microsoft Access Database Engine redistributable.

n Check the installation and perform initial configuration.

The installation steps are described in more detail in the following sections.
Chapter 2 - DCS Installation DCS hardware requirements 6

DCS hardware requirements

The Data Conversion System is designed to run, and has been tested, on Intel processors and should run successfully on all
systems that can run Prophet Professional 8 and later.

When considering hardware or its configuration we recommend that you contact us for advice. We are able to provide services to
help support all aspects of your Prophet and DCS setup.

Support statements
It is recommended that you check the Prophet website for the latest information regarding support for particular hardware,
software and network environments. This can be found at http://www.prophet-web.com/support/support-statements/.
Chapter 2 - DCS Installation DCS software requirements 7

DCS software requirements

The following provides information on the versions of compiler, plug-ins and other external applications that are supported by this
release.

Operating system support

Prophet 9.0 Update 4 supports the following desktop operating systems:

n Microsoft Windows 7

n Microsoft Windows 8

n Microsoft Windows 8.1

n Microsoft Windows 10

Note: Windows 7 will continue to be supported for all Prophet releases in 2018.

In addition, the following Windows Server operating systems are supported:

n Windows Server 2012

n Windows Server 2012 R2

n Windows Server 2016

Intex support
Prophet 9.0 Update 4 and DCS 9.0 Update 4 support the following versions of Intex:

n 3.3h_p1

n 3.3i

n 3.4_p3
Chapter 2 - DCS Installation DCS software requirements 8

n 3.4a_p1

If using Intex versions 3.4_p3 and 3.4a_p1 a text file called “Intex_Key.txt” needs to be placed in the Intex CDI Directory specified
in the run setting. This file should contain two lines, the first with the company name and the second with the Intex user access
keycode.

Note: Only the Intex versions listed above are supported in this update.
There will be at least one version of these Intex versions that we supported with the previous version of Prophet. For instance
in Prophet 9.0 Update 3 we supported Intex 3.3h_p1. If you are using this common version we would advise that you still
upgrade to the Prophet 9.0 Update 4 supplied Intex 3.3h_p1 version.

Prophet 9.0 Update 1 introduced a new installer for Intex.  This installer allows us to send you multiple versions of Intex in one.
You choose which version of Prophet you are using and then which version of Intex you want.

Other considerations
n If you want to use Access or Excel files in your DCS programs, you may also need to install the Microsoft Access Database
Engine. If you do not have a full install of Office 32-bit you will need to install this using the redistributables available on the
installation package. If you have Office 64-bit installed, you will need to use the Database Engine redistributable for a different
version to the one you have installed (e.g. 2010 ADE alongside 2013 Office) to avoid conflicts.

n Additional required software is supplied on the installation media. For details see Installation process on page 5.
Chapter 2 - DCS Installation Compiler installation overview 9

Compiler installation overview

A compiler is required to run DCS programs.

Compiler support
The full list of compilers supported are as follows:

n Microsoft C++ Compiler 2013 installed with Microsoft Visual Studio 2013 for Desktop.

n Microsoft C++ Compiler 2015 installed with Microsoft Visual Studio 2015 for Desktop (including Express Editions).  We also
support the 2015 compiler update 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Note: We support the Express, Professional and Enterprise editions. We are unable to support the Code or Community
editions.

Note: With Microsoft's more aggressive release policy, we will no longer give notice that we will stop supporting a particular
version of the compilers. Instead we will ensure that between one Prophet Release and the next, there is at least one
supported compiler in common.

Additional compiler installation

The following relates to the installation of the compilers used with Prophet Professional.

Microsoft 2013 (Visual Studio)

Please note that you may need to install the Microsoft 2013 redistributables from the source material.  You will need to do this if
you have compiled using the Microsoft 2013 compiler but are then running the products on a machine where that compiler is not
present.

Microsoft 2015 (Visual Studio)

Similarly the Microsoft 2015 redistributables from the source material will need to be installed if you wish to run the products on a
machine where the compiler is not present.
Chapter 2 - DCS Installation Compiler installation overview 10

Microsoft SDKs and the Express version of Visual Studio

You can download the Microsoft SDKs and the Express version of Visual Studio free of charge from the Microsoft website. To find
the relevant links, log into the Prophet website and go to http://www.prophet-web.com/support/download/

Note: Express versions of the Microsoft compilers will require product registration.

Note: Microsoft often changes its installation of Visual Studio. You need to ensure that after installation, the Windows 10 SDK
is installed.

Other installation considerations

Setting the formats for numbers, dates and times
In some places, DCS uses your PC's settings for its display of numbers, dates and times. However, in many places, for instance in
the logs, the format is currently fixed.

You change your PC's settings using the Regional Settings option in Windows Control Panel:

n The Regional Settings tab controls the format used for numbers, in particular the Decimal symbol and the Digit Grouping
Symbol. Where the latter is used within DCS it is referred to as the 1000 Separator.

n Where DCS uses your PC's settings for dates, it uses the Short Date Style in the Date tab.

User Access Control (UAC)

User Account Control is a technology and security infrastructure feature introduced with Microsoft's Windows Vista operating
system. We advise users to leave the UAC feature enabled when installing DCS, as this is the most secure option and follows the
Microsoft recommendations. DCS has been tested with UAC enabled, but we suggest paying particular attention when using the
ODBC functionality.

Chapter 4 - Licensing overview Software Licensing 28

Software Licensing
The Prophet suite of products are secured using software licences.

The software licences have been supplied with your installation along with information on how to configure them. If your new
version of the software was installed by your IT department, they will have set this up for you.

The types of software licences that are available are as follows:

n Machine-Locked User Licence

This type of licence is applied individually to each machine. Prophet software can be accessed by the user of that machine
whether or not it is connected to the network. To transfer the licence to another machine, for example if it is being upgraded,
contact the Prophet Helpdesk.

n Floating User Licence

This type of licence is shared with others in an organisation using a central licensing server. When Prophet software is run the
machine claims a licence from the licensing server and holds it until the software is closed. The licence is then released back
to the server. All users accessing the same licensing server have access to the same functionality.

Note: We do not support licensing for virtual machines. Prophet’s licence enforcement components must remain on
physical machines.

n Detached User Licence

This type of licence is similar to a floating licence but it can be detached from the central server for a specified period of time.
This enables a machine to run Prophet software while it is not connected to the network.

Note: Once a licence is detached from the server it is not available to others until it is returned to the server or the specified
interval of time has expired on the machine holding the detached licence.

Installing the HASP Run-time Environment

Software licensing for Prophet applications requires the installation of the HASP Run-Time Environment (RTE). This has to be
installed on the machine prior to installing Licence Manager and, as required, the standard workspace.
Chapter 4 - Licensing overview Software Licensing 29

If you are using a machine that has previously had Prophet components installed on it then the HASP RTE may well already be
installed or may just need updating. The installer will check for you and guide you through what is required.

To install the HASP Run-time Environment:

n In the Licence Setup page of the installation application, click HASP Run-time.
Chapter 4 - Licensing overview Licence Servers 30

Licence Servers
Note: You must run the Licence Manager as an administrator if you want to save machine configuration changes.

If you wish to share a floating licence and/or be able to detach licences, you need to configure a machine as a licence server.

n The licence server only requires Prophet Licence Manager to be installed and does not need any of the other applications
from the Prophet suite.

n The licence server should be available on your network whenever it may be needed.

Note: We do not support licensing for virtual machines. Prophet’s licence enforcement components must remain on physical
machines.

To set up a machine as a licensing server:

1. Follow the general instructions for installing and configuring Licence Manager.

2. On the Set-up tab, select the Allow this machine to act as a licence server check box.
Chapter 4 - Licensing overview Using the Licence Manager 31

Using the Licence Manager

The Prophet Licence Manager contains all the functionality required to activate and administrate licences for the Prophet product
suite. It is dependent on the third party HASP runtime environment which must be installed first. For details see Installing the
HASP Run-time Environment on page 28.

You can then install Licence Manager from the main Prophet installer. You can install Licence Manager alone or along with any
other Prophet components from the Component Selection page of the Prophet installer. Once installed, you can start the
application in the following ways:

n From the Windows Start button select All Programs > SunGard iWorks and click Prophet Licence Manager.

n In Windows Explorer open the Prophet installation folder and run LicenceManager.exe.

Prophet Licence Manager contains the following tabs:

Tab Description
Details Lists the licensed products available, including their type (provisional, detached, perpetual etc),
host (local or server) and expiry date. For details see Details tab on page 33.
Chapter 4 - Licensing overview Using the Licence Manager 32

Tab Description
Activation Used to perform licence activations or updates using a Product Key supplied by FIS. For details see
Activation tab on page 35.
Set-up Used to configure a machine to be a network licence server, or to connect to a network licence on a
licence server. For details see Set-up tab on page 37.
Detaching Used to detach licences (or cancel detached licences) from a network licence server. For details
see Detaching tab on page 39.
Chapter 4 - Licensing overview Details tab 33

Details tab
The Details tab displays the products and features available on the machine. An example of what might be displayed is shown
below:

n To refresh the list, click Refresh. The list is automatically refreshed after a successful activation, detachment or change to the
machine configuration.

For each licensed product, the following is displayed:

n The name of the product or module licensed.

n The host for the product. A host name of localhost corresponds to a product licensed locally. A hostname of myhostname
corresponds to a product licensed on the myhostname licence server, as is the case with a floating network licence.

Note: The ProphetInitialise product is a provisional product installed along with the Prophet Licence Manager. Its presence in
the Details view shows that the HASP runtime environment and Prophet Licence Manager have been successfully installed.

Click the down arrow next to the product name to show details of the features (or other components) within it. For example:
Chapter 4 - Licensing overview Details tab 34

Heading Description
Feature Name Lists the features included within the licensed product, including libraries.
Type Displays the type of licence. This will be one of the following:
n Provisional - A provisionally licensed feature.

n Expiration - A feature licensed with a specified expiry date.

n Perpetual - A feature licensed perpetually.

n Detached - A feature for which the licence has been detached from the server (see Detaching
tab on page 39).
Expiry Date The expiry date of a feature issued with an expiration-type licence, or the date on which a detached
licence will expire.
Chapter 4 - Licensing overview Activation tab 35

Activation tab
Note: You must be connected to the Internet for activations or updates to work.

The Activation tab is used to activate and update licences for the Prophet suite of products.

It appears as follows:

To activate a licence, you must specify the FIS Activation Server. By default, this is prophetlicensing.sungard.com and does not
normally need to be changed. However, if you are informed by FIS that the activation server has changed, use the padlock button
to unlock the field for editing.

1. In the Product key to activate/update licence field, type the product key you have been provided with to activate or update
your licence.
When you have added the product key, the Activate button is enabled.

2. To activate or update your licence, click Activate.

3. To see the newly licensed features, click the Details tab.

If this machine is to act as the server for a network licence, click the Set-up tab and ensure the appropriate setting is applied.
Chapter 4 - Licensing overview Activation tab 36

Note the following:

n The supplied product keys can only be used to activate a fixed number of machines.

n For a single licence, the product key can only be used once to activate either a single fixed machine or a single licence server.

n Once a product key is deployed it cannot be transferred to another machine. Any transfers or additional licences need to be
requested.
Chapter 4 - Licensing overview Set-up tab 37

Set-up tab
The Set-up tab is used to configure the machine. It appears as follows:

Note: You must be running the Licence Manager tool as an administrator to save machine configuration changes.

n Select the Allow access to a network licence check box to enable the machine to access a floating network licence. Specify
the host for the network licence in the Licence Server Name/IP Address box.

n Select the Use Aggressive Search for Remote Licences check box to enable Licence Manager to search for licences
across sub-nets.

n Select the Allow this machine to act as a licence server check box to enable the machine to act as a server for a floating
network licence. This item should be selected if the machine has had a floating network licence activated on it, otherwise other
machines will not be able to access that licence.

n Select the Allow administrators to view active sessions in ACC check box to enable admin users to view the current users
of the network licence via the HASP Admin Control Centre.

n Click Save to save the settings to the machine configuration.

Chapter 4 - Licensing overview Set-up tab 38

Note: It may take a few minutes for any changes to take effect, in particular if you have specified a new network licence
server. Therefore, switching back to the Details tab too soon may result in a Failed to connect to remote licence server
error. In this case, wait a few minutes before refreshing the Details tab.

n Click Reset to revert any unsaved changes to the machine configuration.

Chapter 4 - Licensing overview Detaching tab 39

Detaching tab
The Detaching tab is used to detach a licence from a floating network licence server. It appears as follows:

To detach a licence for all products:

1. Ensure the Use currently configured licence server option is selected.

Note: The Use alternative licence server option is not available in Release 9.0 Update 4
Chapter 4 - Licensing overview Detaching tab 40

2. Click Detach licences and the following screen appears:
