INT.HOUSE-BEDROOM-DAY

JAMES a 13 year old boy, is in a deep sleep when the phone

continues to ring over and over. He rolls over and looks at
the clock and sees that it is only 3:26 am. He immediately
becomes frustrated and groans loudly.

JAMES
I wish that this phone would stop
ringing!

James father HOWARD walked into the room with a puzzled and
devastated look on his face at about 7am.

JAMES
Hey good morning dad, what was with
all the phone calls this morning? I
couldn’t get any sleep.

DAD
Son there is something I have to
tell you.

James immediately get this bad feeling in his stomach.

JAMES
Yeah what is it?
 DAD
Junior got shot and killed this
morning.

James is distraught.

JAMES
Shot and killed? Like murdered?

Dad is very emotional and flooded with pain.

DAD
Yeah James he was at a club last
night and got into it with a
guy...and the guy retaliated and
killed him.. That is all I know
right now James.

James starts to cry

JAMES
But dad I just talked to him last
night..what am I going to do with
out my big brother?

Dad embraces James and hugs him as he cries

DAD
We are going to be strong son and
we are going to pray. I’ll make
sure for you and our family that we
get to the bottom of it. Now get
up, brush your teeth we have to
leave.

Dad leaves room but not before kissing his son on forehead.

JAMES
I love you dad !
INT.CAR-MORNING

James is in the car with his father on the way to the crime
scene to get the details. He calls his mother LISA, 35 years
old to inform her of what has happened.

JAMES
Hey mom what is going on?

MOM
Hey baby whats wrong?

James becomes very emotional and starts to cry.

Dad pats him on his back.

JAMES
Mom Junior died this morning!

MOM
What..? How..when

Lisa is caught off guard. She is not juniors mother, but

helped raise him through teenage years. Howard takes phone
from emotional James.

HOWARD
Whats going on Lisa? I lost my boy
this morning. He was gunned down
this morning...I don’t know what to
say..

LISA
Howard you know I’m here for you if
you need anything let me know and
I’m going to pray for your family.

Howard is very humbled and somber.

 HOWARD
Thank you I appreciate it!

Lisa is recovering from surgery on her stomach so she is in

pain and yo can here it in her voice.

LISA
Anytime! Tell my son I said I love
him.

James said he loves her from the background.

INT.HOUSE-NIGHT

James is bonding with family and friends who are over to

support him and his father. James gets this gut feeling and
runs upstairs to talk to his stepmother CHERYL, early 40’s
and Aunt VERONICA, late 30’s.

CHERYL
What is it James? Why are you up
here with grown folk?

JAMES
My mom just died!

Cheryl is sipping her wine with Veronica not paying James

attention

CHERYL
What are you talking about? Go sit
down.

James is hurt because she blew him off.

VERONICA
Don’t do him like that.

JAMES
I’m going downstairs.

James heads downstairs not feeling good at all. Phone rings

as he heads downstairs and the gut feeling continues to
grow. He approaches his dads room and sees him on the phone.

JAMES
(To himself)God please....

Dad sits on the edge of the bed as he places hand over his
face and shakes his head as he is on the phone.

DAD
How am I going to tell him this. (
while in room)

James walks in dads room.

JAMES
What happened dad?

DAD
Son your......

Dad hesitates. James start to realize his intuition.

JAMES
Dad just tell me! Is it my mom?

DAD
Yeah son she’s gone son, she died.

James immediately broke down. Crying, screaming just

emotionally distraught.

EXT.OUTSIDE-DAY

James talks to a guy name RICO,19 from his dads neighborhood

who is a few years older than him.They have known each other
for years just never stayed in constant contact.James walks
to the store and sees Rico on on the corner.

RICO
Whats good man?

JAMES
Nothing much, about to get
something out the store.

RICO
I can dig it, how life been
treating you?

JAMES
Not too good man, some punk ass
dude killed my brother, then later
on that day my momma died, just out
here trying to maintain right now.

RICO
Damn man I’m sorry to hear that
real talk, if there’s anything i
can do let me know.

JAMES
Its not just that though man, on
top of that, I’m broke too, its all
bad out here!

RICO
Well I can help you with the money,
what you think I’m out here doing?

James becomes intrigued.

JAMES
Hell yeah! That’s what I’m talking
 bout, whats your number?

RICO
555-555-5555, hit me up little bra
I got you!

They shake hands as James walks away.

James started to sell drugs and commit robberies in the

neighborhood.

INT.JAIL-DAY.

James got caught selling drugs and was thrown in jail. His
father was notified immediately and went to the jail. They
are talking between the glass.

JAMES
What up dad?

Howard has a disappointed look on his face, and there is a

brief silence.

DAD
j..James what the hell were you
thinking?

JAMES
Dad I wasn’t, I was just trying to
get some money.

DAD
James its plenty of ways to make
money...legally! I always give you
money if you ask. What you did was
ignorant. I have never been this
disappointed.

 JAMES
I know it was, I feel horrible
right now.But dad my mind has not
been right since everything went
down. Can you get me out please?

DAD
Hell no, you gotta learn your
lesson. You were brave enough to
commit all these crimes, so be man
enough to stay in here. instead of
turning to the streets turn to your
father. No matter how mad I am i
will always be your father.

James is kinda upset and his dad feels bad for leaving him
in there.

JAMES
Alright dad that will give me time
to think.When I get out I will get
my shit together..oops excuse my
language.But I love you and
appreciate you pops.

HOWARD
I love you too son!

Howard walks out shaking his head!
