MODERN
WATERPROOFING
ABOUT MODERN
Modern Waterproofing Group is a multinational
group of companies that dates back to 1953. It is The group also offers synthetic roofing and
engaged in manufacturing a wide range of products waterproofing membranes, thermal insulation foams
for the construction industry. The products cover a (XPS and EPS), mineral wool and glass wool,
wide range of high-quality bituminous torch-applied concrete admixtures, and spunbond polyester
and self-adhesive waterproofing membranes and geotextiles
protection boards.
We currently have production facilities in four
different countries including Egypt, India. This
enables us to serve our customers in over 50
We manufacture under several brands such as
countries worldwide in a highly efficient manner.
Bitumode, Hyperflex, Roflex, Bitushape, etc.
We have an installed capacity of around 80 million
square meters per year of bituminous
waterproofing membranes.
WHAT IS THE WATERPROOFING?
• Waterproofing is the treatment of materials to prevent the passage of water,
moisture entering or leaving the structure. This requires a coating capable of
eliminating penetration.
Aesthetics - water seepage causes
unsightly stains and damages to property.
Structural - causes corrosion to steel
EFFECTS OF reinforcement and concrete spalling.
WATER SEEPAGE
IN BUILDINGS? Health - causes decay to building materials
resulting in release of toxic chemicals.
Propagates - the growth of mould and
fungi.
WHAT ARE THE MODIFIED BITUMEN MEMBRANES?
Modified Bitumen was developed
Modified Bitumen(MB) membranes were because oil refineries had figured out
developed in Europe in the early 1960 ways to use more products from crude
and in U.S, 1975. oil. The resulting asphalt by product was
lower quality.
To improve the performance of the
asphalt, the manufacturers modified it
There are two types of Modified
with Rubbers or Plastics and then
Bitumen membranes. Which are APP
bonded it to layers of fabrics made from
modified and SBS modified.
Fiberglass or Polyester to enhance its
strength.
APP Modified Bitumen is
modified with Plastics which
WHAT ARE THE is A-Tactic Polypropylene.
APP AND SBS
MODIFIED
SBS Modified Bitumen is
BITUMEN?
modified with Rubbers which
is Styrene Butadiene Styrene.
DEFERENCE BETWEEN APP AND SBS
APP SBS
• APP is Plastic Asphalt • SBS is Elastic Asphalt
• Behave like a candle wax when it melted • Behave like a gooey paste when it melted
at 150˚C at 120˚C
• Easy to apply than SBS because it can • Faster Installation than APP because it
tolerate higher temperature melts sooner
• APP’s Sun and UV resistance much • SBS has not well UV resistance
higher than SBS • When choose the SBS as top layer, it
• It’s suitable for top layer of the TOM should be protected with layer of gravel/

Adesomode 1500 is a self-adhesive(Peel off and
stick), cold applied SBS modified waterproofing
membrane, with a Fiberglass reinforcement. It has a
release film on the under layer while the upper
surface is covered with high density polyethylene. It
ADESOMODE can be supplied as 1.5mm- 2.0mm thicken or upon
the customer’s requirements.
1500
Self-Adhesive membranes are ideal when the use of
open flames is either not allowed or not
recommended. They are also ideal for use in many
DIY (Do-It-Yourself) applications. Cut into various
widths, self-adhesive membranes can also be used as
repair and patching materials.

Waterproofing of roofs
High mechanical properties
Absolute impermeability to water.
Excellent low temperature performance.
ADVANTAGES
Excellent adhesion on any surface.
High dimensional stability
Environmentally friendly.
Easy to apply.
It can also save your time.
APPLICATION
Priming
• All surface to receive membrane must be clean, dry and free from any oils or loose
particles and must apply a coat of NIROL-W (Cold applied bitumen Emulsion). Allow
primer to complete cure (2-6 Hrs.) and apply membrane no later than 24 Hrs from
priming. Re-Prime areas if contaminated by dust.
APPLICATION
Apply Membrane
• Peel back the release film no more than 30 cm at a time, with adhesive side facing primed
surface.
• Press down the membrane against the surface with a rubber or wooden roller, starting
from center to side edges in order to expel any entrapped air.
• For vertical application, installation shall be in approximately 2.5m manageable length.
APPLICATION
Overlaps
• Membrane are produced with selvage to facilitate bitumen to bitumen strong lap joint.
• Side laps shall be minimum 7-10cm and end laps 15cm.
• After removing selvage release film press down firmly against side and end laps, with a
roller.
PROPERTIES
Nirol-w is a stable, cold applied,
water-soluble emulsion of
bitumen with resins and mineral
NIROL-W stabilizers. It has an excellent and
strong adhesion on structural
materials such as (Concrete,
metal, wood, brick…etc.) It resist
attack of chlorides and sulphates
likely present in ground water.
Easy to apply without any heating
thus economical in cost and labor.
