Brief Industrial Profile of Nanded District

1. General Characteristics of the District


1.1 Location & Geographical Area.
The district of Nanded has between 18”15’North latitude and 77”7’ to 78”15’
east longitude. T he district has a geographical area of 10332 sq. Kms. The
district of Nanded is surrounded in the North by Yeotmal District in the West
by Parbhani, Latur and Osmanabad districtd in the South by Bidur district of
Karnataka State and in the East by Nizambabad and Alidabad district of Andhra
Pradesh.
Pre-Independence Nanded District was under the control of Nizam of
Hyderabad as a part of Marathwada Region. Afterward, Government of India,
took the control of the Region and Nanded District was carved out of
Marathwada Region. This district is well connected by Rail, Road and Air.
Industrial Infrastructure like Industrial Estates, Banking Facilities, Supporting
Organizations like DICs, MSSIDC, KVIB etc. are present in the District.
However, this District is considered as one of the backward district of
Maharashtra.

1.2 Topography
Nanded District mainly consists of plain areas with small hills and granite
boulders. The land is mainly utilized for agricultural purpose. The Agricultural
area is 1033114 hectares and the forest area is 91748 hectares. There are ten
small rivers with Godavari, Manjra, Manyad, Penganga being the main rivers.
The overall climate is dry and temperature in summer goes upto 40 degree and
above. The average rainfall is around 450 mm.

1.3 Availability of Minerals.
Although the district of Nanded is not bestowed with rich mineral resources,
the deposits of lime- stone and granite are noteworthy. Deposits of intertrepan
lime-stone are found in Kinwat Taluka, while Grranite is found in large quantities
in Biloli and Degloor talukas. The estimated deposit of Granite in the district is
about 4.70 lakh cubic-meter.

1.4 Forest
The total area under forest in the district is about 91748 hectares which is
about 8.30% of the district’s geographical area. T he major forest area in the
district is in Kinwat taluka (i.e.) about 57,800 hectares Main forest produces are
Timber & firewood Bamboo. Grass, Tendu leaves, Gum & Khenir Wood (used for
manufacturing Kola) are minor produces.

1.5 Administrative set up.


Nanded district consist of nine tehsil they are Nanded, Hadgaon, Kinwat,
Bhoku, Biloli, Degloor,Mukhed, Kandhar, Loha. As on 31.3.1998 the district has
1306 gram panchyats, 11 Nagarparished and 1 Municipal corporation.
At the district level the Collector is the administrative head while the
Tehsildar of each rtehsil run the administration as pthe Collector’s instructions.
The Zilla parished of Nanded has 9 Panchayet samittee. They are responsible for
implementation of rural development programme.

Nanded District is categorized as D+. Various incentives have been declared


by the State Govt. like : Industrial Promotion subsidy, Stamp Duty Exemption,
Electricity duty exemption, Interest Subsidy, Technology up gradation, Cleaner
Production, Quality certification etc.

Nanded District is rich in Agriculture produce like Cotton, Soybean, Oil


seeds , Sugarcane, all types of Pulses, Jawar, Maize,Turmeric,Chiily,Ginger
and Fruits like Bannana, Amla,Citrus Fruits, Grapes, Kesar Mango,Custored
Apple,Sweet Lemon,Pomogranate etc. So, there are so many opportunities in
Agro Industries. Besides Agro Industries, region has strong base in
Engineering,Truck body building , Garment, Steel sector,Plastic and Cement

There no major public sector organisation/multi National co. /Mega projects n
Nanded So, Vendorisation / Ancillarisation do not exist.

3.10 Service Enterprises:
Nanded district has many Pilgrim centre like Hujursaheb Gurudwara
the ancient temples of Lord Dattatraya and Renuka devi at Kinwat taluka and
the temple of lord Khondoba at Malegaon in Loha, people from different parts
of the country visits these places. Nanded has been declared as a holy city by
the Government of Maharashtra and an amount of Rs. 25 crores was sanctioned
for overall development of the city. There is also direct train service from
Nanded to Amrutsir, started mainly for the convenience of the Sikh Pilgrims.
In such a backwground, there exist scope for developing the Tourism oriented
industrial activities like Hotel Industry in places like Nanded, Mahur and
Malegaon.
