Dear Dr Shilpi  Chaudhary,

Greeting!

Congratulation on your joining in PEC!

I just came to know about that today itself. It will be our pleasure to work with you in the coming days. We would like to
visit PEC soon. The centre is floating a course for 5 days on Introduction to Deep Learning. The details about the centre and of
the course and   are as follows:

About the Centre-

The Indo-Taiwan Joint Research Centre on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning at IIT ROPAR  is an intergovernmental
agreement for the promotion of the
research between India and Taiwan. It is a bilateral collaboration in Science, Technology and innovation in the field of
Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning funded by the Ministry of Science & Technology, Taiwan. The purpose of the
centre to encourage International education in Artificial Intelligence, Academia-Industry Innovations and to provide
exposure to young researchers.

The Centre is pleased to announce a short term course on Introduction to Deep Learning.  This course is organised by the AI
Centre from January 18 to February 15, 2020 (every Saturday).

About the Speaker-

Prof. Ren - Song Ko, CCU Taiwan.

Prof. Ren-Song Ko, Associate prof. , Computer Science and Information Engineering, CCU, Taiwan will be the instructor of the
course. Prof. Ren-Song Ko received B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering from National Taiwan University in 1990
and 1992, respectively, and M.S. and PhD degrees in Computer Science from Michigan State University in 1998 and2003,
respectively. Prof. Ren-Song Ko received B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering from National Taiwan University in
1990 and 1992, respectively, and M.S. and PhD degrees in Computer Science from Michigan State University in 1998 and2003,
respectively. In 2003, he joined the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering at National Chung Cheng
University, Taiwan. His research interests include computation complexity, distributed systems, mobile computing, and
sensor networking.

Details About Course
The following are the highlights:
1.Applied Math and Machine Learning Basics
2.Deep Feedforward Networks
3. Regularization for Deep Learning
4. Optimization for Training Deep Models
5.Convolution Networks

Time of Lecture - 10 am - 2.00 pm (every Saturday )

Dates of the lectures:

January 18, 2020
January 25, 2020
February 01, 2020
February 8, 2020
February 15, 2020

SCOPE
The course will first introduce basic mathematical tools and machine learning concepts. It then will describe the most
established deep learning algorithms that are essentially solved technologies.
AUDIENCE
The other target audience is software engineers who do not have a machine learning or statistics background but want to
rapidly acquire one and begin using deep learning in their product or platform.
This course can be useful for two main target audiences. One of these target audiences is university students (undergraduate
or graduate) learning about machine learning, including those who are beginning a career in deep learning and artificial
intelligence research.

PREREQUISITES
Students are assumed to have some knowledge about computer science, i.e., familiarity with programming, a basic
understanding of computational performance issues, complexity theory, introductory-level calculus and some of the
terminology of graph theory.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
A student who successfully completes this course should, at a minimum, be able to:
• develop an understanding of deep learning algorithms, their efficient implementations and their applicability to different
tasks
• gain experience in implementing the algorithms and checking their correctness

Registration
There will be an exam on February 16, 2020. The certificate will be issued to each participant upon the successful completion
of the course.
