Detailed Lesson Plan in Digestive System

The document is a lesson plan for an 8th grade science class discussing the digestive system. It includes the content and performance standards which focus on understanding the digestive system and its interaction with other body systems. The lesson objectives are to identify the parts and functions of the digestive system, understand the importance of each organ, and trace the correct pathway of food inside the digestive system. The lesson involves dividing students into groups to label diagrams, solve puzzles, draw diagrams, or play a game related to the digestive system. A video will also be shown and discussed. Finally, students will complete a matching activity to test their understanding of the organs and their functions.

Content Standard The learner demonstrates the understanding of the digestive system and its
interaction with the circulatory, respiratory, and excretory systems in providing the
body with nutrients for energy.
Performance The learners should be able to present an analysis of the data gathered on diseases
Standard resulting from nutrient deficiency.
Learning Competency The learners should be able to:
 Explain ingestion, absorption, assimilation and excretion;
 Explain how diseases of the digestive system are prevented, detected and
treated;
 Identify helpful practices that affect the digestive system
I. Objectives
Identify the parts and function of the digestive system
Internalize the importance of each organs in processing the food
Trace the correct pathway of food inside the digestive system
II. Subject Matter
A. Topic Structures and Functions
Focus on the Digestive System
B. Concept  Digestion of food is carried out by the organs and substances of the digestive
system. During digestion, food is broken down to smaller parts a fraction of which
is made up of nutrients. These nutrients are circulated to the different parts of the
body through the bloodstream and assimilated by cells.
 The digestive system is made up of the gastrointestinal tract also called the GI
tract or digestive tract. The GI tract is a series of hollow organs joined in a long,
twisting tube from mouth to the anus. The hollow organs that make up the GI are
the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, and anus. The
liver, pancreas and gallbladder are the solid organs of the digestive system.
 Almost all animals have a digestive system in which food enters the mouth, is
moved through a long tube, and exits the anus as feces. The food is broken down
into soluble molecules and is moved rhythmically by the smooth muscle in the
walls of the digestive system.
C. Processes Identifying, describing, explaining, defining and illustrating
D. Value Focus “Health is Wealth”
E. Materials Paper, Activity sheet, pen, pencil, manila paper, marker, cartolina and ballpen

Good morning class. Good morning Ma’am

Elicit Class before you go to school you had your

breakfast right?

Please describe the breakfast you had before

the class, and try to guess what happened to
the food you ate.

What do you think is the organ system involve The organ system involve in the digestion of
in the digestion of your food? food is the digestive system.
Engage Now class, you are going to loop as many
words (organs) associated with the digestive
system.

In this lesson you will learn the functions of

organs that compose the digestive system
and how these organs work together.

Explore This time, I will divide all of you into 4 groups

according to your interest and each group will
have their respective work.

Group 1 – the students will label the parts and

give the functions of each part of the digestive
system using a diagram and a literature.

Group 2 – the students will solve a

jigsaw/picture puzzle of a human digestive
system, will identify each part and give their
functions with the help of a literature.

Group 3- the students will draw and identify

the parts and functions of the human
digestive system.

Group 4 –the students will play “A Gusty

Game” and answer the guide questions that
follow.

Explain Now, may I request the representative from

each group to present your respective
outputs. First to present is the group 1 to be
followed by 2, 3 and 4.

Elaborate Now, class we are going to watch a video

from youtube about digestive system please
take note the processes that takes place.

What makes the organs so important to us? The organs are important to us, for the
processing of the foods that we eat.

How do the organs of the digestive system Organs of the digestive system work together
work together? by serving the role of taking in nutrients,
eliminating waste and absorbing and using
the nutrients that we take in.

What do you think will happen if one part is It will not function normally and many
injured or damaged? unhealthy issues you may have with digestion
will occur.
Insufficient intake of nutrients can cause
nutrition disorders. These disorders may
cause health problems, especially in children,
which may hinder growth and development.
How will you protect your body from By eating nutritious foods like fruits and
malnutrition and nutrient deficiency vegetables, avoiding vices like smoking,
disorders? drinking alcoholic beverages and stressful
activities. And doing light exercises like
walking and stretching.
