Introduction

The Command Reference Manual deals with the commands that are used by system managers
and operators to configure, control and monitor the Short Message Service Centre (SMSC) .
This manual presents the command format, used to perform these tasks. The SMSC Operator
Manual describes the SMSC from an operators point of view. It contains an overview of the
concepts and a description of the entities that make up the SMSC . After reading a specific
section of the SMSC Operator Manual and knowing which SMSC command (or series of
commands) to use, this manual can be used to find the exact format of the command(s).

For the SMSC system, several levels for entering commands are available. The system is
started from an OpenVMS command line and some tools are available at the OpenVMS
Command Line level. The applicable commands are described in the VMS Commands for
SMSC (see Chapter 3) . When using a Presentation Manager (PM), the Command Line
Interface is available. The commands executed by the PM are described in the PM Commands
(see Chapter 4) . The commands executed by the O&M subsystem or the entities are described
in the SMSC Commands (see Chapter 2) .

1.2 SMSC Command Syntax

The SMSC command syntax complies to the DCL syntax standards. The command format has
the following three parts:
1. Command Verb
2. Parameter
3. One or More Mandatory/Optional Qualifiers or None.

The layout of the parameter is as follows:

CLASS CLASS ENTITY ENTITY_NAME
The CLASS part of the parameter specifies the required entity class. Through the ENTITY_
NAME, a specific instance of the entity class is selected; if omitted all entities of the class
will be selected (Wildcard Operation (see Section 1.3.1) ). Two examples are shown in the
Command Syntax Example (see Table 1–1) .

Introduction 1–1
Table 1–1: Command Syntax Example
Command Verb Parameter Qualifier
SHOW CLASS ISDN ENTITY ISDN01 /CONNECTIONS
DELETE CLASS DIWMENU ENTITY DIWMENU01

1.2.1 Entity Class

The entity classes can be represented by the tree hierarchy. An entity class name is an ASCII
character string that specifies the type of entity. The name is indicative for the type of entity.
In the tree representing the SMSC logical management structure, an entity class name reflects
the place in the hierarchy.

1.2.2 Entity Instance

Instances of an entity class must have a system-wide unique name. This instance name is an
ASCII character string with a maximum length of 15 characters. It can be freely chosen, but
it is advisable to choose a name that reflects the type of entity. For entities of the class SMH
the name is bound to certain conventions. The last two characters of the entity name must
be digits. The entity name of the first instance of the class SMH must end with 00, the entity
name of the second instance must end with 01 and so on.
From the classes in the hierarchy, only the "leaves" can have an instance. Each instance is
uniquely addressed by its name and class identification. Some of the branches in the tree can
be addressed as well. They represent the common attributes of the branch below. Branches,
however, do not have instances, therefore they cannot have an instance name.
The Entity Classes (see Table 1–2) shows the entity classes that are defined within the SMSC
. The second column of this table indicates whether instances of this class can be created.

1.2.3 Qualifier
Each command has its specific qualifier(s). Each qualifier consists of a "/" and the name of the
qualifier. The name part of the qualifier contains only the name of the qualifier or the name of
the qualifier and an assignment. When an assignment is applicable the type of parameter for
the assignment will be given in the description of the command.
The Qualifier Value Types (see Table 1–3) shows the value types used in the specifications
of the assignments. Also a description of the way the various value types are used in the
command descriptions is specified.

Table 1–3: Qualifier Value Types

Type In text Description
c ’c’ Single Character
hex nnn (hex) Hexadecimal Value
str "sss" String of Alphanumerical Characters

CTRL/R Repeat the current command line (refresh).
CTRL/U Delete the part of the line to the left of the cursor.
CTRL/Z Exit PM.

The default prompt for the Presentation Manager is: PML>

1.3.1 Wildcard Operation

The command line PM starts a wildcard operation whenever there is no ENTITY_ITEM
specified on the command line. This implies that the currently within the system active
command will be issued to all instanced entities, when only a class is specified. So, for
example, assuming that there are two SIWPC entities active called SIWPC00 and SIWPC01,
the following command is used:
PML> SHOW CLASS SIWPC /STATE

This will present the following output:

Response from SIWPC00
Entity state: Active
Response from SIWPC01
Entity state: Active

Specifying a wildcard operation with no instanced entities in the class will show a message
stating "No Entity Matches in Wildcard Selection".

ADD CLASS AD SMSC Commands 2–3

ADD CLASS AD

/QUOTA=(class, quota=...)
The /QUOTA qualifier adds a quota parameters to the list of start-up parameters for a process.
These parameters are used when a CREATE (see CREATE) command is executed by an AD.
This command is added to the start-up file of the specified AD and, therefore, the /QUOTA
qualifier must be preceded by ENTITY <AD instance name>, as exemplified bythe following
command:
PML> ADD CLASS AD ENTITY CMG1 /QUOTA=...

The CLASS parameter indicates the entity class for which the quota needs to be modified.
The QUOTA parameters indicate which quota needs to be modified, where QUOTA is one of
the following:
• ASTLM (AST Limit)
• BIOLM (Buffered I/O Limit)
• BYTLM (Buffered I/O Byte Count Quota)
• CPULM (CPU usage Time Limit, Units of 10 Millisecond)
• DIOLM (Direct I/O limit)
• ENQLM (Lock Request Quota)
• FILLM (Number of Open Files Quota)
• JTQUOTA (Job Table Quota)
• PGFLQUOTA (Paging File Quota)
• PRCLM (Subprocess Quota)
• TQELM (Timer Queue Entry Quota)
• WSDEFAULT (Default Working Set Size)
• WSEXTENT (Working Set Expansion Quota)
• WSQUOTA (Working Set Size Quota)

If the same quota is ADDed more than once, only the last entered value will be applied.
You can verify the current settings with the SHOW (see SHOW) /QUOTA command. A more
elaborate description of these quotas can be found in VMS System Services Reference Manual
at the description of the $CREPRC system service. In that manual the quotas are called
PQL$_QUOTA.

IMPORTANT
The use of this qualifier is to be restricted to exceptional circumstances. It is used
for tuning purposes and should be handled with great care. The actual values
that will be assigned to a process also depend on system parameters and user
privileges. The actual assigned values can be shown with the DCL command SHOW
PROC PROCNAME /QUOTA. Where PROCMANE is identical to the used entity
INSTANCE_NAME of the corresponding CREATE (see CREATE) command.
Every time a quota is ADDed, a line is inserted into the start-up file of the AD.
These lines cannot be removed, so the start-up file will grow with the number of
issued quota commands. The process will always be started with the last ADDed
value.

2–4 SMSC Commands ADD CLASS AD

ADD CLASS AD

Examples
1. PML> ADD CLASS AD ENTITY CMG1/QUOTA=(SMH,WSQUOTA=5000) /LOG
PML> List of entity quotas:
PML> SMH WSQUOTA=5000
%OMI-S-NORMAL, Normal successful completion
PML>

The ADD command adds the specified quota value to the list of start-up parameters for
all the SMH processes that run on node CMG1. The /LOG qualifier displays additional
information on the success of the ADD CLASS AD command.

ADD CLASS AD SMSC Commands 2–5

ADD CLASS CDMA_COMMON

ADD CLASS CDMA_COMMON

Adds a new entry to the list attribute associated with the class CDMA.

Syntax
ADD CLASS CDMA_COMMON entity_item

/FILTER_PARAMS_WMT=optional_parameter_tag
/FILTER_PARAMS_WPT=optional_parameter_tag

Parameters
entity_item
The name of the entity instance from which an element should be added. This is entered as
follows:
ENTITY instance_name
As this is an entity for a common class, there is only one ’instance’ in the system and its name
is always the same as the class name. This parameter may be omitted.

Description
The ADD command adds entries to list attributes associated with an entity. A list attribute is
an entity attribute which allows multiple entries belonging to the same attribute. Please refer
to the SMSC Operator Manual for more details on list attributes.

Qualifiers
/CARRIER_SPEC_TSID=(teleservice-id, service-type, permitted-routing)
The /CARRIER_SPEC_TSID qualifier specifies the list of entries mapping carrier-specific
Teleservice IDs and SMPP Service Types, and their permitted routing. SMPP Originated
Messages containing one of these Service Types are delivered to the CDMA network with
the mapped carrier-specific Teleservice ID. CDMA Originated Messages with one of these
mapped carrier-specific Teleservice IDs will only be accepted if MO is allowed, i.e. if the
permitted routing configuration in the matched entry does not indicate MT-only. Carrier-
specific Teleservice messages that are delivered to SMPP will contain the mapped Service
Type.

2–6 SMSC Commands ADD CLASS CDMA_COMMON

ADD CLASS CDMA_COMMON

With this command, one entry of format (<teleservice-id>, <service-type>, <permitted-routing>)

can be added to the list. The Teleservice ID can be in the carrier-specific range 49152...65535.
The <service-type> parameter either is a string up to 5 characters, which must be unique
in this table, or is omitted (in case no SMPP service type needs to be associated with the
Teleservice ID). Permitted routing values can be DEFAULT for all message flows, MT for
Mobile Terminated only (MO not allowed), NOFWD to disable forwarding services and the
MT_NOFWD combination.

/FILTER_PARAMS_SCPT=optional_parameter_tag
The /FILTER_PARAMS_SCPT qualifier specifies the list of CDMA optional parameters that

This is the case when a system identifier 0 is defined (please refer to attribute IP7_
COMMON/XUA_RC_SYSTEM_ID).

The maximum number of entries is 6.

Please refer to SHOW CLASS IP7_COMMON/SSRV_NETWORKS for more information on the
meaning of these values.

IMPORTANT
This attribute can only be modified when all IP7 entities have been stopped.

This attribute can only be modified when all IP7 entities have been stopped and
when the licensed attribute IP7_COMMON/SSRV_MO_THROTTLING is enabled.

ADD CLASS IP7_COMMON SMSC Commands 2–17

ADD CLASS MD

ADD CLASS MD

Adds a new entry to the list attribute associated with the class MD.

Syntax
ADD CLASS MD entity_item
Qualifiers Defaults
/LOG /NOLOG
/RELATION=(def1, def2)

Parameters
entity_item
The name of the entity instance from which an element should be added. This is entered as
follows:
ENTITY instance_name
As this is an entity for a common class, there is only one ’instance’in the system and its name
is always the same as the class name. This parameter may be omitted.

Description
The ADD command adds entries to list attributes associated with an entity. A list attribute is
an entity attribute which allows multiple entries belonging to the same attribute. Refer to the
SMSC Operator Manual for more details on list attributes.

Qualifiers
/LOG
/NOLOG (default)
The /LOG and /NOLOG qualifiers specify whether informational results of this command are
to be displayed or not.

/RELATION=(def1, def2)
The /RELATION qualifier adds an entry to the list of possible relations. This list is used
by the MD to provide internal SMSC routing information to entities. It defines relations
of a certain class of entities (def1, the source class) with another class of entities (def2, the
destination class).
The /RELATION qualifier is only applicable to class MD.
