Chapter I
INTRODUCTION
Background of the study
The continuous arising pieces of goods in the Philippines market are one of
the causes of poverty in our country. A recent global trend is to use natural,
renewable, alternative resources that are beneficial in developing new materials. Due
to the economic crisis that our country is currently facing; the researchers did an
experimental study regarding the cheaper type of floor wax.
Floor wax is made from synthetic materials according to Esmeralda Lee, Floor
wax is a liquid mixture containing water, polymer emulsions, film former,
preservatives and modifiers. This research aims to aid the household users of floor
wax into using a much safer, natural, organic, and especially uses materials available
at home, and household users make their own.
Banana peeling floor wax is made of mostly recycled materials that can help
the understand consumer to save money and its less harmful to the environment
compared to the commercial floor wax that has many chemicals and that is harmful to
the environment and also to the ones who is using it.
This study will find out on how banana peelings can be an alternative source
in making a floor wax and how safe it is for the environment and to the users, and
how efficient it is than the common synthetic floor wax. This can be a great material
for polishing floors. It has been a friend and a trusted material for keeping floors shiny
and making it looks new.
Objectives Of the study
This research is carried out to evaluate the potential of biomass develop from
banana peel and to investigate the probability of recycled plastic as a composition of
an alternative floor wax.
Specifically this study aims to:
1. Determine the the effectiveness of banana peel floor wax in terms of
1.1 shining capacity
1.2 duration
1.3 odor
1.4 color
2. Determine the general acceptability of banana peel floor wax
Significance of the study
This study can give benefits to the people such as business man, schools, parents,
and students for they can save money. Floor waxing is essential to maintain the
shiny gloss of floors. However, if you find buying ready-made floor wax prohibitively
expensive, it is possible to mix raw wax candle and kerosene with banana peels to
create a substance suitable for use polishing your floors. This home-made floor wax
will give a comparable shine and smoothness to the commercial products. This study
is only limited for the investigation of banana (Musa acuminata) used as alternative
floor wax making.
Scope and Delimitations
This study only limited in the development of banana peel floor wax. The researchers
choose this study for further investigation if the banana can be an effective source for
floor wax.
This study will be conducted at Lambayong National High School for the
school year 2018 - 2019.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
Banana
Bananas are one of the most widely consumed fruits in the world for good reason.
Eating them could help lower blood pressure and reduce the risks of cancer and
asthma. Today, bananas are grown in at least 107 countries and are ranked fourth
among the world's food crops in monetary value. Americans consume more bananas
than applesMegan Ware (2017)
Bananas are one of the world's most appealing fruits. Global banana exports reached
about 18 million tons in 2015, according to the United Nations. About half of them
went to the United States and the European market. In the United States, each
person eats 11.4 lbs. of bananas per year, according to the U.S. Department of
Agriculture, making it Americans' favorite fresh fruit. A wide variety of health benefits
are associated with the curvy yellow fruit. Bananas are high in potassium and pectin,
a form of fiber, said Laura Flores, a San Diego-based nutritionist. They can also be a
good way to get magnesium and vitamins C and B6. "Bananas are known to reduce
swelling, protect against developing type-2 diabetes, aid in weight loss, strengthen
the nervous system and help with production of white blood cells, all due to the high
level of vitamin B6 that bananas contain," Flores told Live Science. “Bananas are
high in antioxidants, which can provide protection from free radicals, which we come
into contact with every day, from the sunlight to the lotion you put on your skin,"
Flores added According to Szalay, J(2017) .
According toArnarson,A(2014) Banana fruits are among the most
important food crops in the [Link] come from a class of plants called Musa, that
are native to Southeast Asia, and are grown in many of the warmer areas of the
[Link] are a healthy source of fiber, potassium, vitamin B6, vitamin C, and
various antioxidants and [Link] are many different types, and they
come in many different sizes. Color usually varies from green to yellow.
Another information based on the work of Borah,(2018) banana is one fruit
that is commonly available across the globe. In India, it is given much importance
where various regional cuisines use it in making sinful desserts - kheer, malpua,
halwa, payasam, sheera, and paniyaram, to name a few. The raw fruit too is not left
behind. Cut into smaller chunks or thinly sliced using a mandolin, it gets used up in
making wafers, subzis, kebabs, pakoras, and the famous curries of Kerala such as
Avial and Kalan. If you travel towards the East and the Northeast, you will come
across it in the local breakfast cereal, known as jolpan in Assam, which usually
contains puffed or sticky rice mixed with curd and jaggery, and topped with banana
pieces. It is a common feature in breakfast menus, and it is definitely with good
reason. It provides you instant energy to kickstart your day, and is said to be very
good for the stomach. Most natural home remedies in India circling around an upset
stomach, call for using bananas as a remedy along with a few other ingredients.
There are umpteen benefits of banana that is should make you include the sweet and
delicious fruit in your diet today itself. A single piece of banana is said to contain only
90 calories, which also makes it a great (and healthy) snack to munch on rather than
sugar loaded goodies or deep-fried treats. Carry one in your tiffin bag, and you will be
thanking your stars whenever a sudden hunger pang grips you.
Health Benefits
Based on the articleBjarnadottir,A. (2018).Banana are extremely healthy
and delicious. They contain several essential nutrients and provide benefits for
digestion, heart health and weight loss. Aside from being very nutritious, they are
also a highly convenient snack food. Bananas are among the world’s most popular
fruits. Native to Southeast Asia, they are now grown in many warm parts of the world.
1. Bananas Contain Many Important Nutrients
Bananas are among the world’s most popular [Link] to Southeast Asia, they
are now grown in many warm parts of the [Link] vary in color, size and
[Link] most common type is the Cavendish, which is a type of dessert banana.
Green when unripe, it yellows as it [Link] contain a fair amount of fiber,
as well as several antioxidants. One medium-sized banana (118 grams) also boasts
(1, 2, 3):Potassium: 9% of the RDI,Vitamin B6: 33% of the RDI
Vitamin C: 11% of the RDI
Magnesium: 8% of the RDI
Copper: 10% of the RDI
Manganese: 14% of the RDI
Net carbs: 24 grams
Fiber: 3.1 grams
Protein: 1.3 grams
Fat: 0.4 grams
Each banana has only about 105 calories and consists almost exclusively of water
and carbs. Bananas hold very little protein and almost no [Link] carbs in green,
unripe bananas consist mostly of starch and resistant starch, but as the banana
ripens, the starch turns into sugar (glucose, fructose and sucrose).
2. Bananas Contain Nutrients That Moderate Blood Sugar Levels
Bananas are rich in pectin, a type of fiber that gives the flesh its spongy structural
form Unripe bananas contain resistant starch, which acts like soluble fiber and
escapes [Link] pectin and resistant starch may moderate blood sugar levels
after meals and reduce appetite by slowing the emptying of your stomach (5, 6,
7).Furthermore, bananas also rank low to medium on the glycemic index (GI), which
is a measure — from 0–100 — of how quickly foods increase blood sugar [Link]
GI value of unripe bananas is about 30, while ripe bananas rank at about 60. The
average value of all bananas is 51 (8, 9).This means that bananas should not cause
major spikes in blood sugar levels in healthy [Link], this may not apply
to people with type 2 diabetes, who should probably avoid eating a lot of well-ripened
bananas — and monitor their blood sugar carefully if they do.
2. Bananas May Improve Digestive
HealthDietary fiber has been linked to many health benefits, including improved
digestion.A medium-sized banana has about 3 grams of fiber, making bananas a
fairly good fiber source .Bananas contain two main types of fiber:Pectin: Decreases
as the banana [Link] starch: Found in unripe [Link] starch
escapes digestion and ends up in your large intestine, where it becomes food for the
beneficial bacteria in your [Link], some test-tube studies propose that
pectin may help protect against colon cancer.
4. Bananas May Aid Weight Loss
No study has directly tested the effects of bananas on weight loss. However,
bananas do have several attributes that should make them a weight-loss-friendly-
[Link] starters, bananas have relatively few calories. An average banana has just
over 100 calories — yet it is also very nutritious and [Link] more fiber from
vegetables and fruits like bananas has repeatedly been linked to lower body weight
and weight [Link], unripe bananas are packed with resistant starch, so
they tend to be very filling and may reduce your appetite ome test-tube studies
propose that pectin may help protect against colon [Link] May Support
Heart HealthPotassium is a mineral that is essential for heart health — especially
blood pressure [Link] its importance, few people get enough potassium in
their diet .Bananas are a great dietary source of potassium. One medium-sized
banana (118 grams) contains 9% of the RDI.A potassium-rich diet can help lower
blood pressure, and people who eat plenty of potassium have up to a 27% lower risk
of heart disease .Furthermore, bananas contain a decent amount of magnesium,
which is also important for heart health
5. Bananas Contain Powerful Antioxidants
Fruits and vegetables are excellent sources of dietary antioxidants, and bananas are
no [Link] contain several types of potent antioxidants, including dopamine
and catechins. These antioxidants are linked to many health benefits, such as a
reduced risk of heart disease and degenerative illnesses However, it is a common
misunderstanding that the dopamine from bananas acts as a feel-good chemical in
your brain. In reality, dopamine from bananas does not cross the blood-brain barrier.
It simply acts as a strong antioxidant instead of altering hormones or mood
6. Bananas May Help You Feel More Full
Resistant starch is a type of indigestible carb — found in unripe bananas and other
foods — which functions like soluble fiber in your [Link] a rule of thumb, you can
estimate that the greener the banana, the higher its resistant starch content .On the
other hand, yellow, ripe bananas contain lower amounts of resistant starch and total
fiber — but proportionally higher amounts of soluble [Link] pectin and resistant
starch offer appetite-reducing effects and increase the feeling of fullness after meals
7. Unripe Bananas May Improve Insulin Sensitivity
Insulin resistance is a major risk factor for many of the world's most serious diseases,
including type 2 [Link] studies reveal that 15–30 grams of resistant starch
per day may improve insulin sensitivity by 33–50% in as few as four weeks Unripe
bananas are a great source of resistant starch. Therefore, they may help improve
insulin [Link], the reason for these effects is not well understood, and
not all studies agree on the [Link] studies should be conducted on bananas
and insulin sensitivity.
8. Bananas May Improve Kidney Health
Potassium is essential for blood pressure control and healthy kidney [Link] a
good dietary source of potassium, bananas may be especially beneficial for
maintaining healthy [Link] 13-year study in women determined that those who
ate bananas 2–3 times per week were 33% less likely to develop kidney disease
Other studies note that those who eat bananas 4–6 times a week are almost 50%
less likely to develop kidney disease than those who don't eat this fruit
[Link] May Have Benefits for Exercise
Bananas are often referred to as the perfect food for athletes largely due to
their mineral content and easily digested [Link] bananas may help reduce
exercise-related muscle cramps and soreness, which affect up to 95% of the general
population .The reason for the cramps is largely unknown, but a popular theory
blames a mixture of dehydration and electrolyte [Link], research gives
mixed findings about bananas and muscle cramps. While some studies find them
helpful, others find no effects .That said, bananas do provide excellent nutrition
before, during and after endurance exercise .
[Link] Are Easy to Add to Your Diet
Not only are bananas incredibly healthy — they're also one of the most
convenient snack foods [Link] make a great addition to yogurt, cereal and
smoothies. You can even use them instead of sugar in your baking and
[Link], bananas rarely contain any pesticides or pollutants due to their
thick protective [Link] are incredibly easy to eat and transport. They are
usually well-tolerated and easily digested — they simply have to be peeled and
[Link] doesn't get much
Moreover, according toBorah, P. (2018)the Incredible benefits of eating banana:
High Fiber Content
Banana is loaded with fiber, both soluble and insoluble. The soluble fiber has
the tendency to slow down digestion and keep you feeling full for a longer time.
Which is why bananas are often included in a breakfast meal so that you can start
about your day without having to worry about the next meal.
Heart Health
High fiber foods are said to be good for the heart. According to a study done by the
University of Leeds in UK, increasing the consumption of fiber-rich foods such
as,bananas can lower the risk of both cardiovascular disease (CVD) and coronary
heart disease (CHD).
Ease in Digestion
According to Ayurveda, banana has a sweet and sour taste. The sweet taste is said
to bring about a sense of heaviness but the sour taste is known to stimulate gain (the
digestive juices), thereby supporting digestion and helping in building up metabolism.
Powerhouse of Nutrients
Banana is a heavyweight when it comes to nutrition. It is loaded with essential
vitamins and minerals such as potassium, calcium, manganese, magnesium, iron,
folate, niacin, riboflavin, and B6. These all contribute to the proper functioning of
the body and keeping you healthy.
High Source Of Potassium
The high content of potassium in bananas makes it a super fruit. This mineral
is known for its numerous health benefiting properties - it helps in regulating
heartbeat, blood pressure, and keeps the brain alert. So make sure you add
bananas to your daily to keep your heart and brain healthy, plus for more stabled
blood pressure.
Blood Pressure
It is a known fact that salt is the culprit when it comes to high blood pressure.
Bananas have low salt content and high potassium content, and these properties
contribute to making it an ideal for those undergoing this condition. But make sure
you consult your nutritionist or doctor before you add it o your diet.
Helps Fight Anemia
Due to the high iron content in bananas, they are good for those suffering from
anemia. Anemia is a condition where there is a decrease in the number of red blood
cells or hemoglobin in the blood. This leads to fatigue, shortness of breath, and
paleness. But, as we always say that moderation is the key.
Floor wax
George (2012).Floor Wax is a wax-based preparation used to finish and polish floors.
It is meant to increase hardness and glossiness in flooring and create resistance
against slips and scuff marks and includes ingredients like polymer emulsions,
urethane and resins to achieve this. There are some major considerations to take
into account for any business owner contemplating how to coat and protect their
floors, such as health effects, [Link] wax is a solution that has
been used extensively since centuries for floor care. While there are still several
traditional agents available in the market today, most people prefer manmade and
synthetic floor waxes that are comparatively easy to apply.(tcsfloor 2015)
According to Maurer. Floor wax serves to protect and seal hardwood floors,
keeping the finish shiny and new. While floor wax is still a common product used to
finish household floors, it is not the only option. There are many products which
effectively clean, polish and protect the floors. Some alternatives to waxing hardwood
floors include simple mopping techniques and homemade floor cleaners.
Pros
Certain types of flooring such as timber, linoleum, tile and unfinished cork floors can
benefit from regular wax treatments, and as such waxing your floors might be
something to consider in your regular cleaning regime. In this post we list four
reasons why you should consider floor waxing, and also provide a brief outline of
how the waxing procedure is done.
It helps to preserve your floors for longer by protecting them from
scratches, marks, nicks and spill stains.
Waxing adds shine to your floors which can brighten the room and
give off a squeaky clean appearance.
It can diminish the appearance of grooves and faults especially in a
wooden floor.
In a professional environment such as an office, restaurant, hospital
or medical center or that undergoes a lot of foot traffic, waxed floors
can provide a more professional look, and give out the message that
you really care about the cleanliness of your business
Furthermore, According to Bruce(1941) .No floor is very efficient without carnauba
wax, but neither is any floor wax thoroughly efficient when make entirely of carnauba.
Generally they do not harm because as in spirit wax, the contact is too temporary
Cons
Because of adverse health reports the environmental protections agency began a
format because of the chemical. The report indicated that the uses of linden should
be stopped immediately in such items as home self paper and floor wax pet products
and ornament application in the home. Miller,E(1991).Another idea from Hillstorm, K
(1994). One negative effect of softener usage occurred when materials fibers. Began
to appear dingy as a result of the softeners
Recorded accident
Slip-and-fall accidents are surprisingly common and can be very costly. 8
million people visit a hospital every year because they have fallen over after slipping
on a wet or slippery surface or tripping over on a hazard such as an uneven sidewalk
or debris left in front of a house. Serious slip-and-fall injuries such as injuries to the
hips, back and head may mean you are off work for weeks or even months. If you
weren’t to blame for the accident and it happened anywhere away from your own
home, then you may be entitled to claim compensation for your injuries. Do not
underestimate the full cost of medical bills and lost income. Abraham, O (2012)
But according to Tiboni, E(1967).It had come about because of an enormous
development of chemical technology and an eruption of its products upon a naïve
population. It is said that 90 percent of the world scientist born since the beginning of
recorded history are alive today,tri- sodium phosphate, sodium carbinate, borax and
floor wax have been joined by an array of new chemicals to clean polish sanitize the
home.
Organic floor wax
Organic floor wax cleaner nourishes, cleans and protects all oiled, waxed
and varnished floors. Three chosen well-matched waxes create an optimal protection
for stone, tiles, parquet, floorboards, laminate and cork. Deliberately without added
fragrances, the floor wax cleaner leaves a neutral smelling room.

synthetic floor wax are made of artificial ingredients and this study suggest to make
use of natural waste as an alternative for synthetic and artificial materials present in

Banana candle wax
Banana peelings is effective as commercial polishes. The product did not
contain harmful chemicals so it was environmental friendly, safer and cheaper. This
step was made by the researcher to make a floor wax out of banana peel: first, we
mix 2 candle wax then it was melted in a low fire. While still hot, add 1 teaspoon of
oil. After mixing, add the banana peels, Stir it and leave it after [Link] strain and

of 3.3,evaluated “Acceptable” by the panel of evaluators.
Conclusion
The researcher tried to make a Banana peel floor wax and it went successful
and productive. The experiment took time to work but the result was well worth our
time and efforts. We identified its distinctive qualities and positive effects to the
environment. We can assure everyone that if it’s effective to use and not expensive
at all. You can always make a floor wax on your own using this ingredients. Instead
of throwing the peels, why not make a floor wax? It will help a lot to prevent pollution
and help reduce the waste materials that causes our nature to have its revenge.
Therefore we conclude that making a banana peel floor wax can help prevent
disaster to cone even just a little bit and ding so you’re making a change.
Recommendation
The researcher lack materials that could make their production of floor wax
more presentable. The researcher should add more observation in the experiment
differ from the other experiments. We would highly recommend that we could use
banana floor wax instead of commercial floor wax in the market because it’s cheaper
and fits in your budget.
