Electrical Panel SOP

This document provides a standard operating procedure for servicing electrical panels or distribution boxes. The procedure involves turning off the breaker, verifying the panel is dead using a live line tester, applying a lockout/tagout, replacing any components to standard specifications using lugs and ensuring tight connections, removing lockout/tagout and restoring power, checking the panel is energized, ensuring proper earthing and locking of the panel, and requiring use of rubber mats and authorization to work on the panel. The plant engineer is responsible for implementing the procedure at each site.

1.0 PURPOSE

Standardized procedure for service of electrical panel or distribution box

2.0 SCOPE

This SOP applies to all Coats Pakistan Sites

3.0 APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS / REFERENCES

4.0 RESPONSIBILITIES

It is the responsibility of plant engineer to implement this SOP at their unit

5.0 DEFINITIONS

6.0 PROCESS
Standard Operating Procedure for Service of Electrical Panel OR Distribution Box:

 Turn off the breaker to cut off electrical supply to the panel or D.B.
 Make sure there is no current in the panel or D.B. by using Live Line Tester.
 Check three phases by using Live Line Tester to make sure PROVEN DEAD.
 Do LoTo.
 The component to be replaced on the panel or D.B. must be of standard specification.
 Use Lugs / phase separator on all the connections.
 Make sure all the connections must be tightened and there is no loose connection which may
cause chattering.
 After completing the task on the panel or D.B. remove any unnecessary object nearby the
panel or D.B.
 Remove LoTo from breaker and restore electrical supply.
 Check for supply in the panel or D.B.
 Panel or D.B. should be properly earthed including panel gate.

 Panel / D.B. must be locked.


 Rubber mat is mandatory.
 Only authorised personnel can open or work on D.B. / Panel.
