What is whey?
• Whey is a general term that typically
denotes the translucent liquid part of
milk that remains following the process
(coagulation and curd removal) of cheese
manufacturing.
• From this liquid, whey proteins are
separated and purified using various
techniques yielding different
concentrations of whey proteins.

Whey Protein Types
➢ Whey Protein Concentrate (WPC)
➢ Whey Protein Isolate (WPI)
➢ Hydrolyzed Whey Protein (HWP)
Whey Protein Types
➢ Whey Protein Concentrate (WPC)
The processing of whey concentrate removes the water,
lactose, ash, and some minerals.
In addition, compared to whey isolates, whey concentrate
typically contains more biologically active components and
proteins that make them a very attractive supplement for the
athlete.

Whey Protein Types
➢ Whey Protein Isolate (WPI)
Isolates are the purest protein source available. Whey protein
isolates contain protein concentrations of 90% or higher.
During the processing of whey protein isolate there is a
significant removal of fat and lactose. As a result, individuals
who are lactose-intolerant can often safely take whey protein
isolate
Source: Kassem J.M. (2015) International Journal of Dairy Science 10(4): 139-159, 2015
Whey Protein Types
➢ Hydrolyzed Whey Protein (HWP)
Most expensive of the three1.
The long protein chains in the whey protein have been
broken down into shorter chains called peptides. This makes
this type of whey protein more easily absorbed by the body
and may reduce the potential for allergic reactions2.

3. Branched-chain Amino Acids
(BCAAs)
Contains added Branch
Chain Amino Acids
(BCAAs).
Branched-chain Amino Acids (BCAAs)
Three essential amino acids; Leucine, Isoleucine and Valine;
are collectively known as Branched Chain Amino Acids.
(Source: https://chem.libretexts.org/)
Essential amino acids are not produced by the body, and must be
consumed through diet.
Branched-chain Amino Acids (BCAAs)
BCAAs regulate the turnover of protein in muscles by
inhibiting protein degradation and enhancing protein
synthesis.1
BCAAs have been shown to aid in recovery from
exercise with respect to not only protein synthesis but
also aiding in replacing our muscle glycogen and
delaying fatigue associated with exercise. 2

superfoods-
Chia seed and
Spirulina powder
What is Superfood?
Spirulina
- The Nature’s Wonder
▪ Spirulina is one of the natural sources containing the highest amount of
protein, provides the majority of essential and non-essential amino
acids.
▪ It is the vegetable source of vitamin B12
▪ High amounts of beta-carotene, tocopherol and combined form of these
antioxidants make Spirulina a very good source of natural antioxidant.
These antioxidants can protect the body from oxidative stress.

Chia Seed
- The Tiny Superfood
▪ Mayans called it chia, their word for “strength,” as a tribute to the enhanced
energy they enjoyed after eating them.1
▪ The nutrient-rich seeds are good sources of α-linolenic acid. 2
▪ Chia seed contains a higher protein content than most grains and cereals, and
contains more fiber than most other grains. 2
▪ The antioxidants in chia, are mostly polyphenolic compounds such as
isoflavones.2
