Met A Cognition

Metacognition refers to one's awareness of their own thought processes and ability to understand how they learn. It involves self-appraisal of one's knowledge and skills, and self-management of cognitive processes like planning and strategy adaptation. Metacognition is affected by personal, task, and strategy variables, and involves skills like knowing one's limitations, modifying approaches, and self-testing. There are four types of metacognitive learners - tacit, aware, strategic, and reflective - characterized by their awareness and use of metacognitive strategies. Effective study tips related to metacognition include making outlines, breaking tasks into smaller parts, integrating variation, incubating ideas, engaging with material, and revising notes.
