OPTION 1 : NID (National Institute of Design )
INTRODUCTION:
The national institute of design (NID) is internationally acclaimed
as one of the foremost multi-disciplinary institutions in the field of design
education and research.
NID has been recognized by the Dept. of Scientific & Industrial
Research (DSIR) under Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of
India, as a scientific and industrial design research organization.
NID today is premier design hotspot of the country providing
research service and training in industrial design and visual
communication.
AIM:
To develop design curricula which best support the development
of the creative industries in India through the nurturing of talents,
and which can adapt to support a through train for design
education with emphasis on fundamental knowledge and skills,
while promoting a closer synergy with secondary schools and
collaboration with regional and international institutes.
To enable the students to develop a sense of social and
professional commitments.
LIVE PROPOSAL SITE :
The proposed NID will be built on 20acres of land in Kurukshetra allotted by the
Harayana Government in India. The site is allocated within agricultural land along the
National Highway 01. The site has 6 acres of its land in the green belt area of national
highway. However 10% construction has been allowed over this area. Total site area
available for construction is 14 acres with Ground coverage of 25%.
SCOPE OF NID :
If we look at the current scenario in India we can count the number
of design schools we have on fingers. We have the NID at
Ahmedabad and IDC at IIT Powai. IIT Kanpur. IIT Delhi IIT Guwahati
and IISC Bangalore too have their own small design departments.
These design schools are not enough to cater the needs of 1 billion
people in India and several billion people abroad.
Most people don’t even understand the term design. For
understanding the process of design and that will make another
step forward in the direction of role of architecture in design
education.
NEED OF NID :
Designing is often regarded as a visionary activity. So in our day to
day life we have to discard our old projects and replace it by new
once. For this we have to invent new products by assistance with
consumers, manufacturers, advisors and designers.
Designers must recognize that what is right for some people may
be drastically wrong for others.

OPTION 2 : National museum of architecture
WHY MUSEUM AS THESIS PROJECT ?
The National Museum Architecture can provide the matrix for motivation
and Inspiration to emerge from a deep understanding of the history of our own
architecture and its relevance and place in contemporary conditions.
AIM:
The purpose of the museum is to showcase for the work of important regional,
national, and international designers, providing a forum for contemporary issues
in architecture, urbanism, and design.
Encourage scholarly architectural research by organising and uniting in
fellowship the Architects of India to promote aesthetic, scientific and practical
efficiency of the profession both in Practice and in Education and to foster
innovative design practices.
Also to promote public awareness of the role architecture and design in
everyday life and on society, through exhibits, symposia, multi-disciplinary
projects, educational programs, and public outreach to the design community as
well as the public by focusing on the interdisciplinary aspects of the architecture.
OBJECTIVES:
• promotion of better architecture and built environment
• helping everyone understand and appreciate the potential of architecture
and design.
• encouraging public engagement and demand for excellence in art, design
and architecture.
• Preserve architectural drawings and models of famous architects.
NEED TO STUDY :
In India architecture along with architects is not celebrated and appreciated
by the people. They are unaware, how important architect’s contribution is to
developing the society.
There is no place in India where multiple architect’s work is preserved,
researched and exhibited on permanent basis thus providing the need to facilitate
such a museum of architecture where students, architects and common people
can understand, study and analyse the works and the relics.
Lighting is a critical component in a museum environment because the space
enables visitors to see objects, experience new sights and react to the
surrounding environment. Typically, environments have two types of light–
natural and artificial. For a museum, the role of light is an essential part of
creating an atmosphere prime for discovery, while also preserving artefacts.
SCOPE :
Exibiting many architectural relics, drawings and models of numerous
architects under one permanent roof is a unique solution which is unavailable
anywhere in the country.
The use of light is related to geometrical shapes, colours, and many things.
The concept of light can give lot of scope to think and achieve the functional
spaces more lively and with lot of expression.
Use of light in architecture is a very vast topic and extent of research will
have to be [Link] can be a very difficult balancing act between meeting
preservation needs and forming interactive experiences that achieve the goal of
the museum integrating with se of light.
