Gen Engineering

1. The lesson plan discusses teaching 11th grade students about genetic engineering. 2. Students will learn about recombinant DNA, genetic modification techniques like artificial selection and cloning, and evaluate the positive and negative effects of genetic engineering. 3. As an activity, students will create posters showing manifestations of the positive and negative effects of genetic engineering.

Teacher: Nerrisa E. Manila
Area: Science
DAILY LESSON LOG
Date and 10:30 – 11:30 a.m
Quarter 1st
Time:

Activity/Strategy
I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learner demonstrates an understanding of:
4. Recombinant DNA
B. Performance Standards The learner shall be able to:
Make a poster or any creative presentation that will show a
manifestation of the positive and negative effect of genetic engineering.
C. Learning Competencies/ At the end of the session, at least 85% of the learner should be able to:
Specific Objectives [Link] what is genetic engineering.
2. Reflect on the positivity and negativity of genetic engineering.
3. Outline the techniques used in genetic engineering.
II. CONTENT
A. Topic Genetic Engineering
III. LEARNING RESOURCES
1. Curriculum Guide pages Page 1 STEM_BIO11/12
2. Textbook page
3. Additional Resources [Link] , [Link] , [Link]
4. Other Learning Resources

A. Materials
1. For Teacher Curriculum Guide, and Laptop
2. For Students Science Notebook
IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing previous lesson or What is DNA? What is RNA?
presenting new lesson What is transcription?
B. Establishing the purpose for “BLIND ARTIST”
the lesson The class will combine traits from different organism using an illustration and
they will draw it with a blindfold.
C. Presenting examples/ Students are shown some pictures, they will be asked if there are certain
instances of the new lesson chances for the existence of the specific creature.
D. Discussing new concepts and Using integrative approach, the teacher will discuss the topic to the class
practicing new skill #1 using power point slide presentation.
E. Discussing new concepts and Students are asked to list down the possible effects of genetic engineering
practicing new skill #2 whether it’s positive or negative effect.
F. Developing Mastery (Leads to What is genetic engineering? What do you think are the reasons why man
formative assessment 3) manipulate organisms? Is it good to alter things we do not created naturally?
G. Finding practical applications According to “The Creation” God created everything, meaning to say that
of concepts and skills in daily everything that exist is natural. Do you think it is right to alter or do some
living manipulation on things that we do not actually created?
H. Making generalizations and Genetic Engineering- is changing the DNA in living organisms to create
abstractions about the lesson something new.
The organisms are called Genetically Modified Organism, they are also
called transgenic organism.
Some genetic engineering techniques are as follows:
1. Artificial Selection
a) Selective breeding
b) Hybridization
c) inbreeding
2. Cloning
3. Gene splicing
4. Gel electrophoresis
I. Evaluating learning True or False
1. In artificial selection, the traits to be pass is not controlled.
2. Selective breeding happens when you select the best male and
female to breed.
3. There is no disease resistant plant that can produce a lot of
potatoes.
4. Hybridization is a type of breeding that genetically similar to
maintain desired traits.
5. Inbreeding decreases variation.
J. Additional activities for Thing of a specific trait that you want to manipulate to create a genetically
application or remediation modified organism.
V. REMARKS
VI. REFLECTIONS
A. No. of learners who earned
80% on the formative
assessment
B. No. of learners who require
additional activities for
remediation
C. Did the remedial lesson work?
No. of learners who have
caught up with the lesson
D. No. of learners who continue
to require remediation
E. Which of my teaching
strategies worked well? Why
did this work?
F. What difficulties did I
encounter which my principal
and supervisor can help me
solve?
G. What innovation or localized
material did I use/ discover
which I wish to share with
other teachers?
