Dress Up in Words
Inspired by Debra Frasier's award-winning book, Miss Alaineus, A Vocabulary Disaster,
third grade will hold a vocabulary parade to celebrate the power of language. Each
student will create a Vocabulary Hat to wear in our parade. Use bags, paper plates,
newspaper, etc. to create a hat illustrating your chosen word. You may choose a
vocabulary from the list attached, or you may come up with your own. Your hat can be
any creative interpretation of your word. Remember to include your chosen vocabulary
word on the hat somewhere.
Each student must turn in a vocabulary card (attached to this letter) to his or her
teacher by Friday, November 11th, with the following information: (1) Your name, grade,
teacher, and room number; (2) vocabulary word; (3) definition and sentence; and (4) a
sentence describing how you will design your hat. PLEASE PRINT CLEARLY so that you
may read your card to the class before our parade begins.
Wacky awards will be presented in categories such as Best Adjective, Best Noun, Most
