Worksheet Practice Sol

1. The document provides instructions for using diagnostic software to perform various tests on a vehicle, including: creating a custom data list to record engine parameters at idle and various RPMs; conducting a fuel leak test and recording parameters; reading injector compensation codes; and controlling fuel injection on individual cylinders. 2. One test involves setting the compensation code of injector 1 to match injector 3, causing injector 1 to inject more fuel. This makes cylinder 1 more powerful, so the ECU reduces injection volumes on all cylinders to maintain idle speed. 3. Another test cuts off fuel injection to cylinder 1. This causes the ECU to significantly increase injection on cylinder 1 and reduce it on the others to compensate

Worksheet Practice

1. Data list: Connect the IT2 , enter the “data list” and create a “new custom data
list” with the data as indicated in the table below. Start the engine and fill out
the table according the readings on the tester when idling, 2000 rpm and 3000
rpm.

Engine speed Unit idling 2000 3000

Accelerator pos. % 0 16.79 24.21
MAP kPa 100 110 124
MAF g/sec 14.25 43.25 98.54
Target common rail pressure kPa 35670 48190 74570
Fuel pressure kPa 34650 46140 72990
Revised injection vol #1 mm3/st 0.000 -0.313 -0.313
Revised injection vol #2 mm3/st 1.406 1.406 1.406
Revised injection vol #3 mm3/st 0.156 0.468 0.468
Revised injection vol #4 mm3/st -2.032 -2.032 -2.032
Injection volume mm3/st 15.17 16.6 17.51
Coolant temp C 36 42 44
Intake air C 26 21 21

2. Active test: Select “active test” and “Fuel leak test” while the engine is idling.
Monitor the values of the signals in the below table and fill out the table before
and during the test.

Before fuel leak test During fuel leak test

Engine speed 820 2055
Target common rail pressure 34320 160000
Fuel pressure 35150 156600
Injection volume 13.45 13.14

3. Injector compensation: Select “ injector compensation “ from the “ utility “ list.

Read out the 4 injector compensation codes and write them down in the below
table.

Injector Compensation code

Injector 1 11F0000EA00F200000000000000F8
Injector 2 11D60000C4EEE000000000000000D
Injector 3 1100100E000E0D00000000000000C
Injector 4 11F10000EA00F200000000000000F8

4. Set compensation value: In the injector compensation menu, select “ set injector
compensation”. Select injector 1 and manually input the compensation code of
injector 3. After this, let the engine idle, read out the “revised injection
volumes” and compare them with the values from the table 1.

Data After setting the comp. Before setting the comp.

Revised injection vol #1 -1.094 0.000
Revised injection vol #2 1.562 1.406
Revised injection vol #3 0.781 0.156
Revised injection vol #4 -1.250 -2.032

5. What can be seen and why?

Injector 1 received the compensation code of injector 3. This compensation value

creates more injection volume at the same opening time of the injector. As result, this
cylinder will be more powerful compared to the others and the ECU will reduce the
injected volume accordingly (-1,094 mm3/str). To keep idle speed at target, all other
injectors will be reduced in volume.

Please set the correct injector code back for cylinder 1.

6. Active test: Control the injector # 1 fuel cut. When entering the “active test”
menu, select the “control injector #1 fuel cut” while the engine is idling. Fill out
the table below and notice the change in revised injection vol #1.

Data Before active test. During active test.

Revised injection vol #1 -0.625 5.000
Revised injection vol #2 1.562 0.406
Revised injection vol #3 0.625 -0.938
Revised injection vol #4 -1.875 -5.000
