30 Schema Building
- On the board, teacher will draw a simple picture of
the school (like the one of the previous lesson) at one
end of the board and his home (a simple house) at
the other. Alternatively, teacher can use photos of
both (real ones or flashcards). Teacher will tell to his
Ss what each place is ("This is our school – here!",
"This is my house. I live here!" (maybe draw a picture
of the teacher above the house)).
- Teacher will teach the vocab in order of the video
they are going to see a bit later on. Pull out the first
card ("walk"). Teacher will put the card on the board
between the school and his house. He will slowly "I
got here on foot … on foot … on foot.", while teacher
is doing the mimic of walk. Teacher will get all the Ss
to stand up and walk on the spot as they say "on foot
... on foot …". Ss will remember this for previous
lesson, where they walk, run and jump on their spots.
- Next, teacher will pull out the bus flashcard and
replace the walk flashcard with it on the board. This
time say "I got here by bus … by bus … by bus" while
he doing the gesture of driving a bus and beeping the
horn. Teacher will get all of his students to stand up
and pretend to drive a bus and beep the horn as they
say "by bus … by bus …".
- After do this with all the vocabulary that the teacher
wanted to present to the Ss. Teacher will present a
short video to the Ss to watch it. In this video Ss will
see all the means of transportation like Bus, Car,
Bike, Motorbike. This in order to reinforce
vocabulary. The video last 5 minutes.
25 Controlled practice– description:
- Teacher will draw 8 squares on the board.
- Teacher will give each student a piece of paper and
have them draw 8 boxes (picture frames) on the
paper and he do tell everyone they are going to draw
some pictures.
- Everyone (including the teacher) should draw a
picture of a bus in the first square. Teacher will Give a
minute for this. When time is up teacher will say
"STOP!". Now, teacher will present his draw like an
example and the will be the judge. He will walk
around looking at the pictures and give some
comments ("hmmm, not bad" … "oh, very nice!",
etc.). Finally, he will award a winner for the best
drawing and get everyone to clap.
- Now, teacher will erase the pictures on the board
and go onto the next vocab item (e.g. by bike). Again,
he will judge the pictures and select a winner.
Teacher will go through all of the pictures, each time
electing a different winner – teacher will try and
make sure everyone wins at least once.
25 Authentic practice– description:
- Bingo! Teacher will give to the Ss some Bingos on a
piece of paper.
- Teacher will say to the students the instructions of
the game. Which are the following
o The teacher will take different means of
transport out of a bag.
o To win the game, they have to complete one
line vertically.
o The Ss who win the game (could be more
than one) will receive a prize.
- Each time the teacher takes one out, he will ask the
students what mean of transport is it. This will be
done to reinforce vocabulary and practice
pronunciation.
- The game will be play more than one time.
Second class
5 Checking student attendance
35 Schema Building
- Before class, teacher will prepare the flashcards for
the different places he wants to present: School, the
bolivar park, Bolivar Mall, Plazoleta Victoria, Lucy
Tejada’s Library, Teacher’s house, Police Station, and
The Zoo
- At first, teacher will give to the students a worksheet
with pictures of buildings and places (mentioned
before) they can find in Pereira and they will have to
write their names in English. It will be an initial
assessment to see what they know or remember. –
- Then, teacher will correct it and he will reinforce this
information with flashcards (that he prepared before)
using the same pictures in the worksheet but in a
bigger size. Teacher put them in the board and ask Ss
to say the names (looking for their pronunciation and
asking them the meaning of each building and place).
- The teacher will show a small conversation and write
it on the board.
o Teacher: "Where are you going?"
o Student: "I’m going to the zoo"
o Teacher: "How are you going there?"
o Student: "I'm going (e.g. by bus, by car, by
bike, ‘on foot, etc.)"
o Teacher: "Ok then. Goodbye"
o Student: "Goodbye"
- The ss will write this on their notebooks and practice
with their partners. Teacher will supervise the
activity.
25 Provide freer practice– description:
Searching Game
- Teacher will get everyone to close their eyes as he
places each card from the first set around the room
(e.g. place the zoo card in the corner, the park card
under a desk, etc.). Next, teacher will tell everyone
to open their eyes. He will give a card (e.g. zoo)
from the second set to a student. Have the following
conversation (model)
o Teacher: "Where are you going?"
Student: "I’m going to the zoo"
Teacher: "Ok then. Goodbye"
Student: "Goodbye"
- The student must then search for the zoo flashcard.
- When s/he finds it s/he can return to the teacher for
another card. As the first student is searching,
teacher will give another card (e.g. the beach) to
another student and have the same conversation.
Eventually, teacher will have students searching all
over the place and returning for another card – it’ll
be a bit hectic but great fun – plus the key structures
are being practiced for being use in the pedagogical
task

25 Introduce the pedagogical task– description: Maybe it will be a difficult task,

- In pairs, Ss will look at the list of places in Pereira. For however I am sure that they can

house, Police Station, and The Zoo
- After that the will answer this question “Which of the
places in the list when you go out with your family is
your favorite? They will Rank them from most
favorite to least favorite, and be prepared to justify
their order to the teacher. Therefore, they will
answer How are you going there?

Reflection: (Answer the following questions as a guide for the reflection: what went well? What didn’t go well? How
is this information going to be useful for a subsequent lesson plan? Remember you do not have to limit the reflection
to these three questions).
Class 1
For this class I prepared vocabulary on means of transport. The idea is to work during various classes on topics about
the city. Since I didn't have how to use a Video beam, I opted for just showing them images on my laptop, since the
size of the room and how small the it is, it helps to see them on the laptop. The students enjoyed the small video, and
the vocabulary was practiced. Due to time issues, I had to skip the drawing activity. I used that activity in the second
class of the week. I have had some problems with the short time the class lasts, however we were able to play Bingo
and have fun. Time management is still a problem that I have to face constantly, however I was able to get the
children to enjoy the bingo activity and internalize the vocabulary.
Class 2.
On this occasion I had several problems, as I said before, I used the drawing activity on this class. The first thing I saw
was the refusal of several students to want to draw, however, it was not the majority. The idea was to draw some of
the means of transport we saw in the last class, and the best drawings would win a prize (a gummy). At the end, and
as expected, everyone won, I gave an additional prize to the one who wrote the name of the transport in English,
since they already had that vocabulary in the notebook, it was not something difficult for some. For the main activity
of the day, and due to the little time I had, we could only practice the little dialogue and write it in the notebook. This
was due to the fact that the drawing activity took longer than I had expected and that the inservice teacher distracted
the kids a little when she gave them their notebooks from other subject and a folder. I will have to talk to her so that
this does not happen again or to reach an agreement so that it does not interfere with my activities.
