ROTATING BUILDING 2019
ABSTRACT
The Dynamic Architecture project is innovative in design and building sustainability,
therefore the project recognizes environmental care and industrial production process as key
points in the building of the future. In particular the project is base on three fundamental
concept :It is dynamics because each floor can rotate independently from the others allowing
the building to change its shape continuously, it is green because it produces its own energy
from the main and from the sun, it is industrially produced being made of prefabricated
modules, then assembled on site. These green building based on the sustainability concept will
change the sky line of city not only due to their dynamic shape but mainly as they may finally
helps us to enjoy nature.

INTRODUCTION
Dynamic Tower will be the world’s first skyscraper made up of separate rotating
floor attached to a central column. The idea of constructing such an advanced technique was
firstly given by architect “David Fisher”. Building that rotates in itself producing its own
electricity. Each floor of the building rotates separately in a certain interval of time. The
electricity generated in it is due to the wind turbine fitted between each rotating floor.
Similarly, each floor rotates to create a building that constantly changes shapes, resulting
unique structures. Meanwhile dynamic tower is a true green power plant. As all the building
work is performed in the workshop and prefabricated portions have been used, this would
allow the whole building to be constructed more quickly as compared to other building
architectures. The use of prefabricated portions would decrease the construction cost and the
number of labors. Dynamic building is certainly has been constructed for the luxury purposes.
By the combining motion, and the self electric generating property of the building shows that
it is environmental friendly in nature.

LITERATURE REVIEW
Baldev D. Prajapati has study that the analysis & design procedure adopted for the
calculation of symmetric high rise multistory building (G+30) under effect of EQ and
Wind forces. The R.C.C., Steel, & Composite building with shear wall is considered to
resist lateral forces resisting system.
Wakchaure M.R [Link] has investigated that study the effect of masonry walls on high rise
building. Linear dynamic analysis is done on high rise building with different arrangement
is carried out. Analysis is done on G+9 R.C.C. framed building. Earthquake time history
is applieds to the models. equivalent strut method is used to calculate the width of strut.
Various cases of analysis are taken. Analysis is carried out by software ETABS. Base
shear, storey displacement, story drift is calculated and all models are compared.
Ashwini Bidari [Link] has done the analysis and design of high-rise steel building frame
with braced and without braced under effect of earthquake and wind .And the soft ware
used for all analysis s SAP2000. Dynamic analysis is carried out by using Equivalent Static
method and Response spectrum method for earthquake zone V as per Indian code. The
Natural period, Design Base shear, lateral Displacements are compared for the different
silo supporting models .The braced system gives the economical results as compared to un
braced system in terms of frequency and displacement
Kasliwal Sagar K. [Link] has investigated that the present work two multi storey building
both are sixteen store's have been modeled using software package ETABS and SAP2000
for earthquake zone V in India. The paper also deals with the Dynamic linear Response
spectra method and static non-linear pushover method .The analysis is carried on
multistory shear wall building with variation in number and position of shear wall. The
author have concluded that the shear walls are one of the most effective building elements
which resist the lateral forces during earthquake. The shear wall in proper position can
minimized effect and damages due to earthquake and winds.

METHODOLOGY
The Dynamic Tower will generate its own energy through 79 wind turbines placed
between each floor, as well as solar panelling that will coats the roof of the building and
the roof of each level.
There is limited power of about 4KW required to rotate a floor. The drive system is
situated in the base of each floor so it can be seen and in the same time it allows easy
maintenance when required.
The structure is based on the reinforced concrete core of about 22mt diameter that carries
all the vertical loads. The floor will be all made of steel structure, becoming a monolithic
platform, with a cantilever up to about 15 meters.
The floors will be connected to the core in a way that will allow a continuous rotation to
either direction, with no vibration or noise.
Constructed entirely of prefabricated parts from factory.
This means it will be made with 40 factory-built modules for each floor.
The modules will be arrive at the job site completely finished and with electrical, plumbing
as well as air conditioning systems ready for use.
Building times reduced from 30 to 18 months.
Workers reduced to 90 people instead of 2000.
Furthermore, the “assemblage” of the Rotating Tower would required the presence of
approximately 90 peoples (specialized workers, technicians and engineers) in the building
site, instead of over 2,000 peoples in traditional ones. The Method will turn the site into a
place where the modules are only assembled because the structural work has already been
completed in factory. The structural concept of building is very simple - in fact, the only
structural element is a single centre core made of concrete. It is faster, less expensive then
hundred of beams, column and joints and also more sound as it is quite a homogeneous
structure with no quick connections.
1 Floor in 3 days.
Natural and recyclable materials including stone, marble, glass and wood will be used for
interior finishing.
The energy efficiency of the dynamic tower, insulated glass & structural insulating panels
will be employed.

The Rotation
I think we all are aware that construction technology hardly changed in the course of the
years. It was clear to me on the other hand that we can use for this building, that I tend to call
“a machine for living”, many other technologies that exist in other fields.
The phases of design got me and our engineers, taking part in the design of the Rotating
Tower, very much involved with our “partners” industries such as Bosch. We tried to apply
technology existing in different fields such as air space, trains, massive machines and tools,
the large telescopes, bridges, off shore platforms and cranes.
The rotation of the floors is done with steel bearings and combination of air-cushion, allowing
the floors to rotate smoothly and with no vibrations.
There is limited power of about 4 KW required to rotate a floor. The drive system is situated
in the base of each floor so it can not be seen and in the same time it allows easy maintenance
when required.
The structure is based on a reinforced concrete core of about 22mt diameter that carries all the
vertical loads. The floors will be all made of steel structure, becoming a monolithic platform,
with a cantilever up to about 15 meters.
The floors will be connected to the core in a way that will allow a continuous rotation to either
direction, with no vibrations or noise.

Dynamic Architecture
This architecture is revolutionary even in the way it's built. It is in fact the first building
produced in a factory, apart from the concrete core. It's produced of complete luxury units in a
factory, including all plumbing, electrical, air conditioning and installed on the concrete core
right on location. This read made implementation offers high quality finishing, high quality
control and the use of a very few workers on site, with a real cost, life risks and time savings.
Besides, this architecture made of single separated floors offer higher seismic resistance than
any other normal building. Dynamic Architecture is designed for better living even before it's
finished.
The readymade technology allows a revolutionary implementation which is the quickest way
to build a tower: building time is reduced from 30 to 18 months. The revolutionary readymade
technology, plus the fact that it moves to the wind, allows the building to be 1.3 times more
resistant to earthquakes.

ASSUMPTION IN DYNAMIC BUILDING
Due to changing of geometry of the building due to rotation of the different floors,
assumption can be made in the structural analysis that the changing geometry drastically
changes the dynamic behavior of the building.
The changing geometry doesn’t changes the dynamic behavior of the building at the point
of assumption.
Rotation of every floor will significantly charge the period of the structure, because
stiffness of the elements and the moment of inertia are dependent to the orientation of the
element. The orientation of rotational part will be critical in case an earthquake hit
building, since force elements could be amplified.
Since all the masses are supported in the bearings, the orientation is not critical as all the
masses would act as the lump in the centroid. Orientation of structure would not be
affected by period of whole building.
The rotation speed is very slow due to the allowance of quasi-static approach in the
analysis. A whole different approach would be made if the rotation would be faster, but in
respect with people it would not be feasible or desirable. The structure that will rotate fast
would be scary for the people.

MERITS OF DYNAMIC BUILDING
Due to its self-electric generating property the building shows that it is environmental
friendly in nature.
Rotating building enables its occupants to have a 3600 degree view of the scenery,
citiescape outside the building and allows good sunlight ,wind rain, shadow etc.
The aesthetic purpose is also served as it gives more dynamic perspectives.
Cconstruction would be much quicker, resulting in the time saving of around 30% in the
similar sized traditional towers.
Workers needed less in numbers in the site work, because all the workers are utilized in the
factory work.
Each modular apartment can be easily customized to the buyer’s desires, and every small
component can be finished and quality assessed.
Bigger, most stunning and luxury than the traditional buildings. Independently rotating
floor, giving residents the ability to choose a new view at the touch of button
Elimination of rewinding.
No wrapping fibers.
Optically good mass evenness.
Low end breakage rate.
Smooth yarn appearance.
DEMERITS OF DYNAMIC BUILDING:
Low yarn strength.
High tendency to twist.
Difficult in keeping the spinning.
Conditions constant.
High air consumption.
Increasing imperfection in increasing the spinning speed.

A CASE STUDY
The Dynamic Tower in Dubai is the first building to be constructed in the world, and it
will herald a new era of architecture and become a symbol of Dubai, the city of the
future.
The approach of the idea of constructing such an advanced technique was firstly given
by architect “David Fisher”.
This tower is 420 meter (1380 feet) tall with 80 floors. The apartments will range in
size from 124squire meters.
The total cost of the Dynamic Tower is estimated to be 700 million US Dollars.
Each floor will be able to rotate independently.
Each floor will be able to make a complete 3600 rotation around its central axis.
M Tech, CT, Dept. Of Civil Engg, NCIT Page 11
ROTATING BUILDING 2019
Each floor will rotate a maximum of 6 meters per minutes and it will take 180 minutes
to make a complete rotation.
Rotation control by voice command. It is strong enough to hold the floors in place ,and
will contain the buildings elevators, which transport peoples and cars right to their
door.
Car elevator up to 80th floor.
Turbines will be located between each rotating floors. Fisher said that they could
generate up to 1200000 kilowatt-hours of energy each year. And solar panels cover the
roof of each floor.

CONCLUSION
The Dynamic Tower in Dubai is the Building in Motion to be constructed in the world,
and it will herald a new era of architecture and become a symbol of Dubai, the city of the
future.
The Dynamic Tower in Dubai will have 80 floors. The first 20 floors will be an offices,
floors 21 to 35 will be luxury hotel, floor 36 through 70 will be residential apartments,
and the top 10 floors will be luxury villas located in a prime location in Dubai, it is
destined to become the most prestigious building in the city.
The Dynamic Tower in Dubai will be the first skyscraper to be entirely constructed in a
factory from per fabricated parts, it will require only 600 peoples in assembly and 80
technicians on the construction site instead of 2000 workers on a similar size traditional
construction sit and construction.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum ruler of Dubai abd Vice
President of the UAE, is considered by many to be a true visionary of the future,
[Link]’s dream for the Dynamic Tower in Dubai were inspired dy His Highness who
said. “Do not wait for the future to come to you…face the future.
