RULES FOR THE INTERNAL, NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL


MOOT COURT COMPETITION

Rule 1. FOR INTERNAL MOOT COURT COMPETITION


Rule 1(1). The Jamia Moot Court Committee shall have exclusive jurisdiction in framing rules
for the Internal Moot Court Competitions for the selection of teams for International and
National Moot Court Competitions.

RULE 2. RULES FOR THE INTRA MOOT COURT


RULE 2(1). One Internal Moot Court Competition will be organized to select teams for various
International and National Moot Court Competitions. Only the teams participating in the Intra
would be allowed to represent the college in any Moot Court Competition.

RULE 2(2).The Committee will come out with a comprehensive list of all the International and
National Moot Court Competitions to be held every year with their themes, dates, venues.

RULE 2(3). Teams will be required to register in advance for participation in the Intra Moot.

RULE 2(4). Teams will be required to submit a memorial and take part in a researcher’s test. On
the basis of ranks in this selection processes, a maximum of 20 teams will be selected for the oral
rounds of Intra Faculty Moot Court Competition.

RULE 2(5). Of these 20 teams from Intra only the top 5 teams will be eligible to choose the
Moot Court Competition of their own choice.
RULE 2(6). Number of teams selected under the above section may vary and the final decision
has to be taken by the Jamia Moot Court Committee.

RULE 3. ALLOCATION OF INTERNATIONAL AND NATIONAL MOOT COURT


COMPETITIONS THROUGH INTRAS
RULE 3(1) The Jamia Moot Court Committee shall allocate International and National Moot
Court Competitions based on the performance and the ranks of teams in the Intra.

RULE 3(2) Only teams participating in the Grand intra shall be eligible for participation any
Moot Court Competition.

Rule 4. FOR SCREENING PROCESS


RULE4(1). Every team must have to go through a screening process conducted at a time prior to
submission of memorial for the moot allocated to them, at a time and place to be notified by the
JMCC.

RULE4(2). Teams must clear the screening process and be declared fit for participation in the
moot allocated to them failing which they shall not be allowed to represent the University in the
same.

RULE4(3).Judges for such screening process may be faculty or external judges who will be
appointed at the sole discretion of the Jamia Moot Court Committee.

RULE 4(4). The decision of the judges in the screening process shall be final and binding. The
judges will give feedback to the teams.

RULE 5. TIME OF THE INTRA


RULE 5(1). The Intra shall be conducted by the committee in the month of November unless it
is postponed due to unavoidable circumstances. Comprehensive and detailed rules shall be
framed exclusively by the committee and shall be notified to students accordingly.

RULE 6. ALLOCATION OF MOOTS


RULE 6(1).The committee shall have the sole discretion in determining which moots are to be
allocated through the selection process.

RULE 7. ALLOCATION OF MOOTS IN EXCEPTIONAL CIRCUMSTANCES

RULE 7(1). The Jamia Moot Court Committee shall have the sole discretion in allocating a moot
court competition to a team whose previously allocated moot has been cancelled due to no fault
on their part.
RULE 7(2). It shall be the sole discretion of the Jamia Moot Court Committee to conduct an
open challenge for any moot court competition which was not included in the list of competitions
made available to teams at the time of allocation of moots through the Intra Faculty Moot Court
Competition.
Proviso‐Such measures may only be taken temporarily for that one year and the moot in question
must find place in the list of moots to be allocated through the next year’s Intra.
RULE 7(3). In case of client counselling, negotiation competitions and trial advocacy moots,
allocation will be done through separate open challenges for the same to be organised
exclusively by the Jamia Moot Court committee.

RULE 8. ALLOCATION OF MOOT IN CASE OF TEAM SPLIT

RULE 8(1). In case of a split in the team which has been allocated a particular moot court
competition wherein one member wishes to leave the team, the other 2 members may induct a
new member from the list of participants in the grand intra on the providing of an NOC by the
member leaving such team.

RULE 8(2). In case of a divide in the team wherein the team submits to the committee that it
cannot participate together, that team shall be prevented from taking part in the said moot.
Reallocation of moots to individual members shall be as per the discretion of the Committee.

RULE 9. DUTIES AND PENALTIES FOR FAULTERING TEAMS

RULE 9(1). Teams must abide by the provisions of the RULES applicable to them.

RULE 9(2). Teams shall research for only one Moot Court Competition at one time. Thus teams
can only participate in one moot per semester.

RULE 9(3). Teams must abide by the guidelines put forth to them by the Committee from time
to time. Violation of such guidelines will attract a penalty to be decided by the Committee at
their discretion.

RULE 9(4). Teams must ordinarily participate in a Moot Court Competition which has been
allotted to them unless they are prevented from doing so due to unavoidable circumstances.
RULE 9(5). The teams which do not participate in a moot court competition which has been
allotted to them must answer to the Committee for such action and if such answer is found to be
unsatisfactory, all team members shall face a complete ban from all moot court activities for a
period of one academic year. The decision of the committee shall be final and binding.
RULE 9(6). Teams shall register for any moot court competition through the Jamia Moot Court
Committee as representatives of the University. Registration without the consent of the Jamia
Moot Court Committee in individual capacity will attract a one or more academic year ban on all
members of the team from all Moot Court activities. The decision of the committee shall be final
and binding.

Rule 10. In case of any Dispute


Rule 10(1). In case of any dispute the Jamia Moot Court Committee shall be the sole authority to
have discretion regarding the same.
