Growing as a Church Family
Over the past 6 months our Sunday morning messages have been focusing on
our spiritual growth. Growing, as a church family, will happen at the rate we are all
growing individually.
So, back in June we began a sermon series on GRACE. Right off the bat we all
felt the encouragement knowing that God’s special love for His people has always
been wrapped in the gift of GRACE that each one of us as believers enjoys. Without
GRACE, our commitment and faith walk becomes meaningless.
Then we moved to a series on GROW. I heard someone say a couple of weeks
ago that they were anticipating a lesson on how to grow our attendance. I can’t em-
phasize enough that our own individual faith walk is paramount to any sustainable
growth we see as a result on Sunday mornings. Think of it this way, the FSU Semi-
noles don’t get better or worse based on the size of the crowd that shows up to watch
them play. When they get better on the field, both as individual players AND as a
team, do the crowds get more excited? Sunday morning attendance will rise as the
Lord adds to our numbers. But nevertheless we have a responsibility to continue in
our faith walk.
We had one stand-alone sermon a few weeks back on VERSATILITY, pointing out
that we become all things to all people so that we might win some. The Apostle Paul
in his first letter to the Corinthians made it clear VERSATILITY in HOW we bring the
message of Christ does not change the message.
And now recently, our message series on FIXED reminds us that our “faith-walk” is
not really a “walk,” but as Hebrews 12 would tell us, it is more like a RACE. And while
we ALL will find times that we will grow tired, weary, and lose heart, FIXING our EYES
on JESUS allows us to keep going and not give up. In every season of life, GROW-
ING, and RUNNING, and DOING, can take it’s toll. But as believers we can PUSH
THROUGH when we FIX our eyes on Jesus.
Let’s finish 2019 in this next couple of months STRONG. Just this past week we
entered what I call the “CRAZY” season. October 31 to January 1 will be a blur. Don’t
drop out. Don’t drop the baton. Don’t quit. Keep Going and don’t give up as we come
into this BEAUTIFUL time of the year. Thanksgiving to God for all His blessings as a
prelude to the most BEAUTIFUL blessing of all, the baby Jesus, our Savior, our Lord.
Let’s finish 2019 STRONG as we enter 2020 STRONG.
See Ya’ Sunday,
Allen G.
