Pigafetta'S Account of Magellan'S Voyage: First Voyage Round The World

Antonio Pigafetta was an Italian scholar who joined Ferdinand Magellan's expedition in 1519 to be one of only 18 survivors of the first circumnavigation of the world. Pigafetta kept a journal that provides a key source of information about Magellan's famous voyage. The expedition set out with five ships from Seville, Spain in search of a western route to the Spice Islands in accordance with the Treaty of Tordesillas between Spain and Portugal dividing colonial territories. After battling harsh conditions and navigating uncharted territories, Magellan was killed in the Philippines in 1521 but the expedition eventually returned to Spain in 1522, completing the first voyage around the world.

undertones of camphor and pepper.

Cloves have an assertive, characteristic taste given by the


essential oil eugenol, they go well with savory and sweet foods
but must be used sparingly.

Store whole cloves for up to one year in an airtight container/
jar out of direct sunlight. Ground cloves lose their flavor very
fast.

Good quality whole cloves are reddish brown in color and will
exude some oil when pressed with a fingernail.
