Introduction Suppose you are working for Antenna Manufacturer and are assigned to design new Wifi
antenna. Wi-Fi is a wireless networking technology that employs RF or radio waves in the
range of 2.4Ghz or 5.7Ghz. Different Antennas, such as Yagi, Horn, micro strips, aperture
and parabolic Grids can be used at Wifi access Points or at end user devices and they all
have different merits. Your task is to research these technologies in details, Analyze Them,
design them and pay specific attention to how they are used as well their strength and
weakness
Problem I. Provide an opinion regarding which antenna type will be most useful in Wifi
Statement applications? PLO1, WK8@WP1, WP2, EA2. Submit in week 7.
II. Design standard dual band Wi-Fi Omni-directional antenna based on type of antenna
you selected above? PLO3, WK5@WP1. Submit in week 9.
III. It is required to extend Wifi antenna range to 5KM and to increase directivity to
18dBi. Analyze different techniques Directivity and Gain enhancement first and also
Analyze Bandwidth degradation in the process of enhancing directivity? PLO2,
WK2, WP2@EA2, WP3. Submit in week 10.
IV. Design new structure based on your analysis and your best choice to enhance
directivity to 18dBi. Find its ф and Ѳ angles? PLO3,WK5@WP1, WP5, EA3,EA5.
Submit in week 12.
V. Close your design with following specifications on your design sheet? PLO1, WK4
i. Dimensions & packaging
ii. Power handling
iii. Gain/Efficiency and Directivity
a. Efficiency: Total Radiated Power and Total Isotropic Sensitivity
b. Average Antenna Gain: Communication Link and Range impact
c. Peak Antenna Gain: Regulatory Compliance impacts
d. Directivity (Theta/Degree VS. dBi) & Gain(Theta/Degree VS. dB) Graphs
Objectives Design 18dBi highly directive antenna with least effect on Bandwidth
Methodology  Literature Survey
 Analysis and Design based on mathematical standards and verifying results by
Simulations
Conclusions/  Comparative Study of Wifi Antennas
Deliverables  Omni Directional Wifi Antenna
 18dBi Directional Wifi Antenna
 Antenna Performance graphs and Specification sheet
