Beginning Monday, October 28, 2019

We are dedicated to helping you get off the street, into safe, long-term
housing, and connected to vital services. We also want to keep you informed
of rules and ordinances that may impact your daily life. Please use this guide
to inform yourself and connect with resources.

Starting October 28, 2019- NO camping, sitting, or lying in this area:

NO camping, sitting, or lying in this area

Sitting or lying is generally allowed in other public spaces, outside of these


prohibited areas, if the person is not blocking the area or endangering public
health or safety.

ALSO, NO camping allowed:


• On any sidewalk in the City of Austin
• On private property, including outdoor common areas, unless allowed by the owner
• In public areas when it blocks public property or endangers public health or safety
• In parks or greenbelts
• In and around other public buildings with security rules
• In high wildfire risk areas

Peaceful Panhandling Allowed


Peaceful panhandling that does not violate any other rules is still allowed in
certain public areas like sidewalks. But, aggressive confrontation including
threatening, violent, or lewd behavior is not allowed.

For most mental health crisis requests for assistance, dial 9-1-1 and ask that a
Mental Health Officer respond. If a mental health officers is not readily available,
the closest officer may respond to evaluate the situation

24/7 Helpline provides crisis support and access to assistance with Housing, Counseling,
Medical care, Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities, Suicide Prevention, etc.

Daytime resource center for men and women; shelter for men only at night.

For temporary shelter for individuals and families.
Austin Shelter for Women and Children (512) 933-0600
For women with children and single women needing housing assistance up to 3 months.
Does not allow men over 17 years old to visit the shelter.

24-hr hotline for assistance with domestic violence, abuse, or sexual assault.
LifeWorks (512) 735-2400
For youth (under age 26) and families experiencing homelessness or seeking self-
sufficiency. Offers shelter, transitional living programs, young parent programs, life skills
training, counseling, and educational and workforce programs.

Connection to employment and job assistance.
