Job Applicant Selection Case Study

The document describes a hiring scenario where a personnel manager must choose between two applicants for a job: a college dropout who is the son of the governor, or a college graduate who is the son of one of the company's suppliers. As the personnel manager, I would choose the college graduate son of the supplier because qualifications like a college degree are most important when making a hiring decision, rather than political connections or relationships.

Short Cases for discussion #2

A son of the governor, college dropout – DLSU, is applying for a job in your
company. Another applicant for the same job is a son of one the company’s suppliers
with a college degree in BSBA Marketing from IMCC.

Whom would you choose if you were the personnel manager. And why?

1. Setting?

- A certain private company.

2. People involved?

- A. Son of governor, college dropout from DLSU;

- B. Son of company’s supplier with a college degree and graduate from
IMCC;
- C. Me- as the personnel manager of the company.

3. What is the problem of the case?

- Selection and hiring of applicants.

4. Whom would you choose if you were the personnel manager. And why?

- I would choose the son of company’s supplier who is a college graduate

from IMCC, because of his/her qualification, competency and level of
expertise as a college graduate. As for me, selection and hiring of
applicants and finding the right man for a job is through his/her
credentials ans achievements, not on his/her, what we called backer.
