While reflecting, aside
from the obvious looking
into whether the students
met the learning objective
or not, I do look into
student engagement. I
stress that students are
engaged because I feel
that is one of the keys for
them to meet their
learning objective. The
goal is for the class to run
as smoothly as possible
even with the little
hiccups here an there. I
do also reflect to see if I
may have said something
that a student might have
been offended by. Overall
I rated myself as
emerging instead of
exploring due to the lack
of reflection with my
colleagues which should
be changing now due to
having my mentor
teacher. (9/29/19)

This self assessment has
shown that there is much
more that I can be better
at. The goal is to try and
improve every year and
to try and master these
goals. Two aspects of my
teaching I will be
focusing on trying to
improve are Planning
and Assessment. I do use
the 5E model for
planning, I do plan on
attending professional
development for
planning and
assessments as well as
some type of training for

strategies to further
assist the students.

Family is very important
to the development of the
students whether it is
inside or outside the
classroom. I have both
pleasant and unpleasant
interactions with parents
(mostly pleasant). I do
invite the parents of my
students to attend and
observe a class if they
have any concern in that
regard although I have
never had a parent
actually do that. One
thing I did start at the
school was the cultural
food festival were
students can bring food
pertaining to their
background. That has
been a huge success. I do
look forward to attending
more community events.

I had to choose emerging
due to the fact that I have
not attended any
community events. Our
students also come from
all over the place with a
very small percentage
actually living in the
neighborhood. I have
heard my old
principle/mentor say that

that helps with the
context. I still need to be
aware of the resources
that students can use

I need to work on.

I do my absolute best in trying to remain professional at all times and I am well
aware of both my legal and ethical obligations. I do try and maintain a positive
classroom environment at all times in which students respect each other and the
adults in the room. One thing however that does linger with me the mostly after
the day is over, I always ask myself about my students with learning disabilities. I
always wonder if they understood/learned anything. This caused me the previous
school year to have to hold the former Sped instructor accountable, but this year
the new instructor has been very helpful and delightful. (9/29/19)
