What comes to mind when you see the ocean? Isn’t it the sea-dwelling creatures that would
try to feed on your flesh? Those big sea creatures that could take you arms and legs off in just
one bite? And the biggest of them all is the thought of drowning and not being able to breathe? If
so, pay no attention to it and instead think of the wonders of the underwater world - its richness
in fauna and flora. The different creatures that you might see underwater are not those that you
can see in the world above.

One of the many ways to explore the underwater world is through SCUBA diving with the
help of professionals who would guide you all through out. SCUBA actually is an acronym for
Self-Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus. But before exploring, one must learn the basic
and the dos and don'ts of diving to prevent any accidents. Some of the diving equipment you
need to learn are the mask, regulators, compressed air tank, and many more.

Now we proceed to the main event and that is the diving and exploration. To be able to
appreciate the beauty of the underwater world one must find a good diving site to explore. In this
case, it is in Mansud Wall in Talikod Island, Davao City. This dive site is characterized by being
a cove well be carved with beauty hidden beneath. Ideal for night dive, deep dive and divers of
all levels. Generally, the waters around here Mansud wall are calm. The average visibility is 18
meters and the average depth of 30 meters. A sampling technique called transect line was done to
estimate the number of individuals within an area. During the dive, you can see that it is truly
rich in fauna and flora. There are different kinds of coral reefs or coral formations, different
kinds of fish, sea anemones, tunicates and many more.
The species that really stood out during the dive are Centropyge heraldi, Myrichthys
colubrinus and the Amphiprion ocellaris. Centropyge heraldi or commonly known as Herald's
Angelfish is a marine angelfish commonly found in the Pacific ocean. It is bright yellow and
behind its eye is a patch that is darker shade of yellow. There are about 38 individuals in the
transect line. It can be seen almost anywhere during the 30-minute dive and it also travels in a
group. Myrichthys colubrinus or a snake eel is colored as black with white stripes. There are
about two snake eels during the dive and they were both lying still on the ocean floor.
Amphiprion ocellaris or commonly known as Ocellaris Clownfish are marine animals that has a
body coloration of orange to reddish-brown with white stripes. There are about 7 individuals and
most are found in their respective homes, the sea anemones.

After the dive, the feeling of self-accomplishment is evident. The feeling that you have seen
the real beauty not just underwater but of the environment. The feeling that you were able to see
what others cannot see. In spite of these, there a common concern among the divers and that is
the fact that even though what we have seen underwater is a scene that is so magical, the water
surface is a total contradiction what with all the garbage that humans threw. It also concerns the
divers of how these garbages will surely affect the lives of the creatures underneath.
