How to Create a Discord Account and Server

In the how-to guide below, I will be providing a step-by-step process for creating a discord account and
server, as well as how to invite your friends once your server is created.

Part 1
Here we will assume that you also need to create an account (if you have already done so, skip ahead to
part 2!)

Step 1

Go to Discordapp.com

Here is what the login page will look like, from


there, click ‘Register’!

Step 2

Create your username and password (you’ll also need an email!)


Step 3

After that, you will be taken to the main page! You need to go to your email to have your account
verified, but from the main page you can go to your friends list and add some, or update your picture in
the settings in the bottom left corner.

Part 2
Now onto the server creation process!

Step 1:

Click the circle with a plus sign on it. It will be on the sidebar to your left, and is pictured below:

Select the ‘create a server’ button once this
window appears for you.

Step 3:

Once you click ‘create a server’, a window will


appear for you to give your server a name and
an image of your choice

Step 4:

Invite friends you already know with the invite friends button once your server is created! This window
will pop up:
Or, at the bottom of the same window, there will be a generated link that you can send to others to
invite them.

*The link is automatically set to expire in one day but you can change that time.

Step 5:

Add channels to your server! Channels are a great way to organize your server into different discussion
topics. To add another channel, click the plus sign next to ‘text channels’. You can name the channel
anything you like!

Step 6:

By clicking the small gear icon, you can open the settings for that channel so you can give people
permission to access this channel, change the name, or flag it if you so desire.
Step 7:

Access your server options using the arrow in the top left of the screen. It will bring up these options:

Roles give people different permissions, either to see or talk in certain channels, and implement
different levels of administrative privileges.

A Discord server is a highly customizable method of communicating with your colleagues or friends over
an instant message medium, capable as a great aid in organization and communication. After following
this tutorial of the basics, please feel free to explore the various different functions of Discord, referring
back to this tutorial as needed.
