Ek Archery Research was initiated as the merging of two

metaconcepts, a design team focusing on the ergonomic
development of archery products and a fabrication philosophy
driven by an iterative manufacturing process. As inflated product
performance and exotic materials dominate trends in the archery
market, the evolution of the modern bow and crossbow is ironically
hampered by these same forces. Ek Archery Research is committed
to the refinement of archery products that are more than just lighter,
faster and quieter, we strive to produce bows that are designed
from the bottom-up with a focus on comfort and adjustability to the
human body and the motions of archery.

Ek Archery Research was founded with the understanding that our

years of engineering and product analysis must return to our roots. In
this quest, we discovered that the failings of the modern bow can be
traced to the disconnection between design teams and the trends
of mass production. Excellent bows are more than just the evolution
of considerate design, they are the result of attentive craftsmanship.

Old hands with new bones is our way of looking at the iterative
synchronization of engineering data with manufacturing realities.
Is the design of a bow the defining factor of its performance?
Strangely enough, it isn't. It's how the limbs, the riser, the cams,
the strings, the components are built. Over three decades we
have observed the product failures of the famous archery brands
as they insist on price as the bottom line. This attitude towards
mass production leads to a decrease in the quality of archery
products. Ek Archery Research resists this trend through a iterative
manufacturing process that involves our fabrication teams
through several stages of design, in order to correct problems
as they appear. As prototypes emerge from the design process,
these are subjected to the input of end-users. Trends amongst
users are analyzed, and products redesigned. Great bows come
into being and are assembled through the Acumen of our
Workshop Masters.

The bow is held, through drawing, to the moment of fullness, aimed, released
and continued with the follow-through. Each of these moments form the
sequence of movements that comprise the kinematic qualities that are
analyzed to study the variables of motor control in archery. The ergonomics of
the bow and the crossbow are more than just questions of comfort, they are
a biomechanical understanding of anthropometric parameters. The inquiry
into these parameters inform our research and guide our design principles.

As the bow hand is the first body part to touch the bow handle and the
last body part to be touching it as the arrow leaves, Ek Archery Research
concerns itself with the interface between the archer and his equipment.
As the archer must consider how to develop a personal technique that
maximizes the use of bones and minimizes the use of muscles, we focus
our designs to reduce the vibrations transferred between the bow and
the human. As the biomechanics of archery reveal the coordination
and muscular activation patterns throughout the process of the shot, we
investigate the designs to achieve balance, steadiness and ease through the
draw to the release phase.
