Example Unit

This document provides an example assignment for students to review polynomials and rational expressions using their iPads. The assignment has two parts: Part A involves defining key concepts and providing examples of polynomials and rational expressions. Part B requires students to graph their examples from Part A using GeoGebra, take screenshots of the graphs, conduct online research to find real-world examples that match the graphs, and create a PicCollage combining their graphs and matching real-world photos. The document models completing Parts A and B and provides scoring guidelines.

POLYNOMIALS AND RATIONAL EXPRESSIONS REVIEW ASSIGNMENT WITH THE iPAD

This activity is going to require the use of your iPad. I will give you two class periods to complete this
assignment. The first session should be used to answer all questions and collect all data. The second session
should be used to put it all together and perfect your work. So, put you pencils and notebooks away and let’s
use internet to complete this assignment. If you need any help with this assignment, please do not hesitate to
ask. Technology can be tricky sometimes.
There are two parts to this assignment.

Part A will be a review of what we have learned in this unit. Answer the questions in part A in order to complete part B.
You may use memory or conduct a google search in order to answer these questions.

Part B will you being able to demonstrate that you can use the following interactive tools and applications.

1. Geogebra - You will be using GeoGebra to graph your polynomials.

2. Screenshots - You will be using screenshots to upload your graphs from GeoGebra onto this document.
3. Google – conduct a google search to find different objects in the real world that look like your graphs
4. Pic Collage - You will also be using Pic Collage to put together pictures of your graphs next to different
objects in the real world.
Please make sure that your graphs and your pictures you found from google correlate to each other.

Scoring Guidelines for iPad Assignment Possible Points Points Earned

Are both parts completed fully? 5

Part A - Are all of your answers correct? 9
Part B - Did you graph all three of your expressions? 3
Part B – Did you insert a screenshot and label each graph correctly? 3
Part B – Did you provide one characteristic of each expression? 3
Part B – Did you complete the google search and cite your sources? 6
Part B – Does you Pic Collage have 6 photos with correct labels 6
Total points 35
Extra Credit 5

PART A
What is a polynomial?
What is a rational function?
What arithmetic operations can we use on polynomials?
Provide 3 different polynomials or rational expressions of different degrees.
1.
2.
3.
Provide one characteristic per expression
1.
2.
3.

PART B
1. What do your examples (from part A) of polynomials look like?
 Use GeoGebra to graph these expressions. You will need to screenshot your graphs and insert them
on this document. Please make sure that you are labeling your graphs, so I know what graphs
correlates to which expression.
 Do they show where the zeros are, if so, how are they shown on GeoGebra?
2. Conduct a google search and find 3 examples of objects that look like your graphs in the real world.
Make sure you cite your sources!
3. Use pic collage to put together your graphs that you made on GeoGebra and find something in the real
world that looks like these graphs. It is important to correlate what you are learning into something in
the real world.
