General Paper-I (July 2018)

SOLUTIONS

1. (3) Average Consumption of Rice (in Million Kg.) over the year 2012-2016.
2012 = 72.5
2013 = 88
2014 = 108
2015 = 105
2016 = 127
Average Consumption
= 72.5 + 88 +108+ 105+ 127/ 5 = 100.10
2. (2) Population in Million = Consumption/Per Capita consumption
2012 = 72.5/36.25 = 2
2013 = 88/35.2 = 2.5
2014 = 108/38.7 = 2.79
2015 = 105/40.5 = 2.59
2016 = 127/42 = 3.02
3. (4) Calculate Ratio for 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015
Exports Consumption
Year Ratio
(in Million kg) (In Million Kg)
2012 114 72.5 1.57
2013 114 88 1.29
2014 130 108 1.20
2015 116 105 1.10
Thus Highest Ratio is 1.57 (2012).
4. (1)
Year-Wise Production, Exports and Per Capita Consumption of Rice
Per Capita
Production Exports Consumption
Year Consumption
(in Million kg) (in Million kg) (In Million Kg)
(in kg)
2012 186.5 114 36.25 72.5
2013 202 114 35.2 88
2014 238 130 38.7 108
2015 221 116 40.5 105
2016 215 88 42 127
Consumption (in million kg) = Production – Exports.
2012 = 186.5 – 114 = 72.5
2013 = 202 – 114 = 88
2014 = 238 – 130 = 108
2015 = 221 – 116 = 105
2016 = 215 – 88 = 127
Percentage of consumption
2013 = 88 × 72.5/72.5 × 100 = 21.38
2014 = 108 – 88/88 × 100 = 22.7
2016 = 127 – 106/127 × 100 = 16.53
The percentage increase in the consumption of rice over the previous year was the
highest year 2014.

General Paper-I (July 2018)

5. (3) Population in Million = Consumption / Per Capita consumption

2012 = 72.5/36.25 = 2
2013 = 88/35.2 = 2.5
2014 = 108/38.7 = 2.79
2015 = 105/40.5 = 2.59
2016 = 127/42 = 3.02
Highest year of population is 2016 (3.02)
6. (2) Memory Unit
1 Bit – Binary Digit
8 Bits – 1 Byte
1024 Bytes – 1 KB (Kilo Byte)
1024 KB – 1 MB (Mega Byte)
1024 MB – 1 GB(Giga Byte)
1024 GB – 1 TB(Terra Byte)
1024 TB – 1 PB(Peta Byte)
