WORK METHODOLOGY
a) Instructions from the Engineer will be received for the installation depth of
piezometer tip (A, B1, B2, B3).
b) The relevant documents related to the vibrating wire piezometer such as calibration
certificate and specification, etc. shall be submitted to the Engineer for approval.
¢) Upon approval, the vibrating wire piezometer will be installed in the rotary wash
borehole with nominal diameter of 100mm, cased to the depth where the strata are
sufficiently competent for the hole to remain open.
d) Three piezometers will be installed in a single borehole.
e) All the drill casings will then be withdrawn, leaving to piezometer leads through the
casing as each length is removed to complete the installation.
f) Where the piezometer is to be installed down a borehole, the length of the pre-
attached lead to the piezometer will be sufficiently long to surface at the ground
level but kept to a minimum to facilitate casing removal.
9g) The cable will later be spliced up to the full measured length to reach the Instrument
House.
h) Working to a master color code, the leads will be indi
ually identified with bands
of colored adhesive tape at 10m intervals.
i) Prior to installation at site, the piezometer tip will be pressure tested in a container
of water with pressure up to 500 kPa to check for poor connections and
functionality.
i) Prior to installation at site, the piezometer assembly will be left in a water filled
container to allow the temperatures and pressures within the piezometer to
stabilize. A ‘Zero Pressure” reading will then be recorded.
k) Prior to installation, the borehole will be flushed until all traces of arising have
disappeared.
1) The borehole will then be dipped with weighted tape to ensure that the depth is as
specified and the borehole is cleared.
m) By using measuring tape, the piezometer leads will be marked with a double band
‘of color adhesive tape that does not conflict with any instrument color code,
corresponding to the ground level for the required depth, measured to the center
of the porous filter.

n) If water is not already in the boreholes, water will be added to at least the intended
depth of the sand cell and bentonite plug to compact and saturate the sand cell
and to also saturate the bentonite pellets.
0) Atthe appropriate time, piezometer will be removed from the water ad immediately
lowered down the borehole until the previously marked double band on the twin
tubing is at ground level.
) Coarse, clean filter sand will be poured slowly through the water until the sand cell
is of the required length. Depths will be taken using the weighted measuring tape,
after sufficient time has been allowed for the sand to settle; the sand will be lightly
tamped if necessary,
q) Areading with the readout will be taken to ensure that the instrument is sensibly
indicating the known head of water within the borehole.
r)_ The drill casing will be withdrawn until its base is approximately 0.3m below the top
of the sand cell.
s) The bentonite pellets will be dropped through the water and tamped as necessary
until the seal length is as specified.
t) The borehole will be backfilled to ground level with bentonite-cement grout, placed
by tremie hose inserted to just above the bentonite plug and withdrawing the hose
as grouting proceeds as shown in the Figure 1

6. QUALITY CONTROL PROCEDURE
Prior to the commencement of the works, a Request for Work Inspection (RFWI) form
must be filled up by the contractor. This is to ensure that all the work being carried out
with quality control and as per the requirement and satisfaction of the SO. All the works
shall be recorded inside the checklist based on work trade and must accordance to
Project Technical Specification and construction drawings.
7. ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH AND SAFETY PLAN
Cautious and awareness sign shall be established at location of works. The hazards
in a particular activity and the control measures implemented shall be briefed to the
workers during safety tool box meeting
All workers employed in the project site must have valid CIDB and need to attend the
CMSB Safety Induction Course before commencing works at site and attendances
shall be recorded in an induction checklist and mandatory to display the induction
passport all the time at site.
All workers are required to wear Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) i.e. safety
helmets, safety boots and safety vest when working at site. Appropriate lighting should
be provided for night work.
8, EMERGENCY RESPONSE PLAN
The work shall be carried out in accordance with the Emergency Response Plan when
the health and safety of workers are threatened. The plan will be used to manage
emergency incidents to protect life, the environment, property and to restore the
condition to normal condition in the shortest possible time.

VW Piezometers, VWP-3000 Series
Pore pressure measurement in soils and rocks &
fluid pressures in hydro-fracture and pump tests using the
well-proven method of converting fluid pressures ona
sensitive diaphragm into a frequency signalVWP-3000 Series
Overview
Geosense* VWP-3000 Series of Vibrating Wire piezometers use
‘the well-proven method of converting fluid pressures on a
sensitive diaphragm into a frequency signal.
Frequency signals are particularly suitable for the demanding
environment of Civil Engineering applications, since the signals
are capable of long transmission distances without degradation,
tolerant of wet wiring conditions and resistant to external
electrical noise.
