PRODUCT
A product is the result of a process . It is also the item offered to the market to satisfy a need or
want. A product can be a physical good, services, experiences, places, properties, information
and ideas. There are also 4 types of a product, the convenience products , the shopping
products, speciality and unsought products. In addition, a product has 3 levels . The core , actual
and augmented product.

LEVELS OF A PRODUCT

Core Product

A core product is intangible, it means you can't see and touch it. It's because the core product
is the BENEFIT of the product that makes it valuable to you. So with the car example, the benefit
is convenience . The ease at which you can go where you like, when you want to. Another core
benefit is speed since you can travel around relatively quickly. Another example is Mobile
phones, originally, the telephone was only used as a mode of voice communication. Over the
years, technology has made so much advancement that a mobile phone can be use anytime,
everywhere and almost for everything. But the core product in a mobile phone is the ease of
communication. The utility derived from being able to communicate with speed and efficiency is
the core product.

Actual Product

The ACTUAL product is the tangible, physical product. You can get some use out of it. The
color, quality, style and branding all plays an important role here. Mobile phones for example,
before we buy it we make sure that its quality will satisfy us, that the color we want is availabe,
that it's the brand we want and it's on trend.

Augmented Product

The AUGMENTED product is the non-physical part of the product. It is all those value added
features or extra benefits and services that you get along with the purchase of the product. So
when you buy a car, part of the augmented product would be the warranty and customer
service support offered by the car’s manufacturer. Another example is when you buy a mobile
phone part of the augmented product is the freebies they give along with the purchase.
