CHAPTER 5
FINIDINGS, CONCLUSION AND RECMMONDATION
The aim of the present research was to reveal reason behind the student’s tardiness
and home environment and their impacts on academic achievements. This research also has
concern with strategies that was beneficial to developing regularity and dismissing tardiness of
students among schools. This chapter based on the explanation of results attained; it will tell how
the results relate the study and have connection with past researches. The results are present
research are grounded on the explanations and investigation of data attained with the help of semi
structure questionnaires which were filled by 35 students and 15 teachers those were part of
elementary and high schools. These are research question present study based on:
What are the reasons that cause student tardiness in schools?
How home environment affects the tardiness?
What are the effects of student tardiness on the teaching and the learning process?
What are strategies that can help to eradicate the tardiness among students of primary
schools?
5.1Discussion on results
The semi structure questionnaires were taken from students, during analyzing the
data various themes appeared as showed in the abovementioned. The upcoming part will talk
about the recognized themes under lying into the major research questions.
5.1.1 Causes of tardiness
Mostly respondents were stated that they were used to sleep late at night due to
their home environment. They mentioned reasons for sleeping late such as doing school work at
night, helping mother in preparing dinner, washing dashes and watching television were most
common among them. Most of respondents mentioned they are tardy to waking up in the morning
because their parents sleep late in night. These above-mentioned reasons were also identified as
late to rise in morning.
Few of them find it tough to wake up in the morning on time that reasons for late
arrival to school. When a student sleep late and rise late so management of time is difficult for
them. Mostly female students have responsibilities to do some domestic chore like, helping in
making breakfast, washing dashing, cleaning home and look after their younger sibling. They are
unable to manage all these stuff in proper way that result lateness to school.
Distance to school is also one of major complaints. Location of school is also matter
in late coming to school. Some of them live in the village that can easily reached at school on time,
but they don’t and those they live far form school have no proper mean of transportation. They
respond rarely our father took us to school on bike and most of the times they walked throughout
the way to school. If their distance to school is more than half an hour and wake up late in morning
so it’s impossible to could reached on time to school. Many researchers mentioned in literature
review distance of school is a big reason to come late.
Other main cause of tardiness of students’ parents don’t pay heed to children
to send school on time. They never asked them about school timing and studying when they came
to home. When they see this type of attitude toward studying, they become relax and don’t care
about the school. Some parents engage them into their work, so they can’t say to them that we are
getting late for school. One of the respondents stated that she must look after their sibling to get
them ready for school and prepared their bags and helping the mother in chores.
One other theme is poor management of time in which few of them said they don’t
know how to tally time from the analog clock. Some of them also mentioned that our mothers are
unable to tally time because they are illiterate. They don’t know how to organize their work
according to sufficient time. When a student wakes up late the time short, so she is enabling to
accomplish all the tasks which are to be done before leaving for school. She is not able to manage
due to lack of awareness of time management.
Some of respondents stated that our parents are not to live with each other
because of the clashes between them. One of respondents said my father is not alive and she got
married to another man. I live with my mother in my step father’s house and frequently with my
grandparents. These broken families have influenced the child life very much. Its affect the abilities
of child and mental health. Those children are always in state of anxiety and stress. They are not
social enough and they were not participated the activities of school. They feel themselves lonely
because they are afraid of people. Family is basic institute of learning, if it’s not functional than
how a child will groom in such an environment.
One of the biggest reason behind the students’ tardiness is tardy teacher. A teacher who
come late to school due to many reasons. When a teacher late to school it’s a bad example to
students. When a teacher come late and did not bother the late comers in hurry to start class, so
students take advantage of this thing. They consider it’s not an important thing to be on time if is
it than why our teachers come late to school. Some respondents said that our teachers who come
from city are always late 10 to 15 minutes. Tardy teacher pays less attention toward the students
rather they are in complete uniform are not. She has focus more on instructional learning not on
character building.
In last reason mentioned as lack of implementation in tardy policy. Tardy policy was not
followed strictly because teachers are also late than how can they ask students to be at time. It is
asked to teachers to come at the school time so that the students also follow them and come early.
5.1.2Impact on teaching and learning process
The results of study showed several impacts that how being late influence them and their class
fellows. Few respondents stated that it’s tough to meet with class and when they came late. One
of them stated that when I entered in class the lesson was started before me, I always missed the
beginning content of lesson. Its difficult for me to understanding the concepts that were already
discussed. Other students were also affected form tardy one’s they loose attention form lesson. It
has great influence on teaching as well the tardy student interrupts the fluency of lesson.
Sometimes the teacher forgets the main idea or theme of lesson that were being taught now.
The researchers begin to say that teachers are very harsh with tardy students and
ask them to stay out of class as a punishment for the missing some part of the lesson. The whole
lesson is missed when students are not present in a school for a day. The students feel difficulty
in understanding the lesson which is taught in their absence in school and it may leads to the failure
of students in courses or examination.
A respondent stated that there could be some guidelines about passing examination;
due to coming late the one can miss the revision of taught lesson. Other respondents also agreed
with the above statement, declaring that if you enter the class late you miss too much which is
taught to the class.
5.1.3Measure to eradicate the student tardiness
Just as the further research questions, many themes arose connecting to the
previous research questions on customs in which students and the primary school could deduce
the student lateness. In the upcoming part, all the results from these different themes have been
deliberate. The maximum number of respondents found one of the customs to recover their
classroom lateness trend was with the management of time and self-regulation. The findings
showed that few respondents released their responsibility which was to be fulfilled, that if they
could manage their time to get themselves ready for class and arranging the school timetable, they
could evade being late.
Another step to reduce the student tardiness is to make tardy policy in school. In
the tardy policy, the tardy students will be punished and fined for coming late to school. The tardy
policy should be known to all the students. The tardy students should be given warning at the first
time and then they should be punished for coming late. The students should be fined or punished
after asking the reason for his tardiness
5.2Conclusion
The analysis of the present study exposed many reasons that play a role in the
student’s tardiness to school. Most of the respondents are late for school because of domestic
chores. The financial status of the families of the respondents is not too good so they are asked to
help their parents. Other main reason for tardiness was recognized to be poor management of time.
Some other students were quite confused in choosing their domestic tasks or get ready for school.
So, in performing their domestic tasks, they get late for school.
The research also paid heed at the impacts of late coming of students on their
academic procedure and exposed that significance of lesson announced in the start of the class and
all that important material is missed due to tardiness. If any fellow may convey the missing
material to the tardy one, there may be any point which is missed by the tardy student. Since the
no devotion is given to the tardy one by the teacher, it is very tough to meet the class in the lesson
as stated by many respondents.
At the last, it has been exposed that there could be some measures made to eradicate
the lateness between students of primary schools. By telling the students about the significance of
time and regularity; some policies should be made which will decide what is going to happen with
the tardy students. The late comers are dealt in a different way when they are observed, some are
punished, and others are ignored by the teachers. The school timing should be changed to facilitate
the respondents.
5.3Recommendations
The present research endeavored to rise acknowledge on the reasons of student’s
lateness at Girls’ Primary Schools and its impact on their academic procedure. There should be
alike research to deal with a huge sample and associate how other schools see the problem of
student lateness.
These are the following recommendations
A policy should be introduced by parents in which there should be fixed time for studying,
watching television and playing games at night and make sure that their child go to sleep
as early as possible.
The administration of school should distribute incentives to students who are regular most
of the time to inspire them to come on time. The incentives should be distributed in the
assembly, this act will set example to other students.
The teachers should try to be a good role model to follow. The teachers should be regular
to school and to classes to inspire the students to come early.
The administration of school should inform the teachers and students about the
consequences of tardiness and aware them about the effectiveness about regularity.
It is asked to inform the mothers of female students not to involve them in the domestic
chores particularly in the morning.
The parents should be called in school and counseled about the school timing and asking
them to send their children to school on time.
In order to reduce students’ tardiness toward school, the school should introduce a tardy
policy in which late comers should be accommodated. This policy should be followed
strictly all the time.
