Air Pollution
Air pollution is a mixture of solid particles and gases in the air.
Car emissions, chemicals from factories, dust, pollen and mold
spores may be suspended as particles. Ozone, a gas, is a major
part of air pollution in cities. When ozone forms air pollution, it's
also called smog. Some air pollutants are poisonous.
Most of this air pollution we cause results from the burning of
fossil fuels, such as coal, oil, natural gas, and gasoline to
produce electricity and power our vehicles. Carbon dioxide (CO2)
is a good indicator of how much fossil fuel is burned and how
much of other pollutants are emitted as a result.
They can even lead to a person's death. Long-term health effects
from air pollution include heart disease, lung cancer, and
respiratory diseases such as emphysema. Air pollution can also
cause long-term damage to people's nerves, brain, kidneys, liver,
and other organs.
Air pollution causes damage to crops, animals, forests, and
bodies of water. It also contributes to the depletion of the ozone
layer, which protects the Earth from the sun's UV rays. ... Some
of the other environmental effects of air pollution are haze,
eutrophication, and global climate change.

factories are harmful gases like carbon monoxide, nitrogen
oxide.
On Days when High Particle Levels are Expected, Take
these Extra Steps to Reduce Pollution:
·8 Reduce the number of trips you take in your car.
·9 Reduce or eliminate fireplace and wood stove use.
·10 Avoid burning leaves, trash, and other materials.
·11 Avoid using gas-powered lawn and garden equipment.
Air pollution is not counted as a cause of death because it is not
an illness,” he said. “Rather, it's a contributing factor to other
illnesses.” Poor air quality has long been linked to lung and heart
problems, including coronary artery disease, emphysema,
respiratory infections, stroke, and cancer.

Help Stop Pollution
1. Use Environmentally Safe Products.
2. Recycle Your Used Motor Oil and Filters.
3. Compost Yard Trimmings.
4. Report Illegal Dumping.
5. Pick Up After Your Pets.
6. Dispose of Trash Properly.
7. Use Water Based Paints.
8. Recycle Everything You Can.
All animals, despite their size, can be affected by pollution. ...
The pollution that animals inhale can accumulate in their tissues
over time, causing damage to their organs. Not only do animals
inhale harmful gases from pollution, but contaminants are also
absorbed through the skin and come from food and water.
Pollution is the introduction of contaminants into the natural
environment that cause adverse change. Pollution can take the
form of chemical substances or energy, such as noise, heat or
light. ... Pollution is often classed as point source or nonpoint
source pollution.
