gift to us:
the Gift of Himself dwelling
within us.
The Seven Gifts of the Holy
(cf. Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1831)
Spirit
Wisdom
• The first and the highest gift of
the Holy Spirit because it is the
perfection of the theological
virtue of faith.
• Through wisdom, we come to
value properly those things
which we believe through faith.
Understanding
• This allows us to grasp the very
essence of the truths of the
Catholic faith.
• Through understanding, we gain
a certitude about our beliefs
that moves beyond faith.
Counsel
• This is the perfection of the
cardinal virtue of prudence.
• Through this gift, we are able to
judge how best to act almost by
intuition.
Fortitude
• This gift gives us the strength to
follow through on the actions
suggested by the gift of counsel.
• It is the virtue of the martyrs
that allows them to suffer
death rather than to renounce
the faith.
Knowledge
• This gift allows us to see the
circumstances of our life the way
that God sees them.
• This is the ability to think about
and explore God’s revelation and
also to recognize that there are
mysteries of faith beyond us.
Piety
• This gift makes our worship and
service to God genuinely out of
love and not just a duty.
• This strengthens in us the
inclination to connect to God any
time, anywhere.
Fear of the Lord
• This gift of Holy Spirit gives us
the desire not to offend God, as
well as the certainty that God will
supply us the grace that we need
in order to keep from offending
Him.
• This is the feeling of amazement
before God, who is all-present,
and whose friendship we do not
want to lose.
Symbols of the Holy Spirit

Holy Spirit’s actions. It calls to attention to the
