CIVIL ENGINEERING APPRENTICESHIP Page 1
This day our OJT adviser or head of the institute we applied for OJT tour us in
our designated site areas to worked or observed (Figure 2). The construction already
started and we immediately saw workers working on different areas like construction of
roof beams forms (Figure 3).
On this day, as our adviser touring us to the site and asking some question
regarding about minimum sizes for plumbing pipes for example. Also question us about
rebars to be used in beam construction.
Giving us some information is Engr. De Guzman, our OJT adviser. He gave us
tips and knowledge about site construction and how to handle things in site. He also
explains some critical things to know about site construction. He also makes sure the site
engineer is following the plans strictly for safety purposes.

In our third day, we saw workers constructing a rebar and assembling the rebar.
The laborer is assembling the rebars for some beams. Bending of required bars is being
conducted by steel man in the site (See Figure 8).
At the same time welding of truss is conducted. The laborer is welding the angle
bars to form trusses for the roof works. He has no PPE so there is a large hazard in the
situation (Figure 9).
WEEK 2
Day 5 (January 28, 2019)
Figure 10. Orientation Figure 11. Orientation
In the 6th day of the training, we go on a site visitation around CLSU. We visited
the famous CLSU Auditorium that is under renovation. As we go around the area, some
work we saw is the fixing of metal piping into PVC pipes. The plumbing pipelines of the
old auditorium approve to change. They use PVC pipes instead (Figure 10).
Another activity is the renovation of auditorium roofing. In construction of the
ceiling the laborers are working at heights so they put extra safety for themselves and a
lot of scaffoldings are necessary (Figure 11).
