Chapter 1
Introduction
Now a day, through advancement of modern technology, there are a lot
of fast and reliable alternatives for research. However, library still pays a vital role on
the students and researcher’s life. Library is still considered the most accurate place for
information.
The Computerized - Library System is a proposed system to be used by the City
Librarian of the City of Koronadal to manage booklist, inventory and monitoring the
transactions in a library. The system will be created using the Visual [Link] ([Link])
and Microsoft SQL Server 2005 to build system database.
The system mainly focuses on the basic operation in a library like adding new
books, updating book information, searching, borrowing and returning books and
generation of reports.
The Computerized - Library System will store all the books information that
consists of book id, book title, author name, publisher, number of copies and other
information to the system database. The system also provides search function for the
librarian to assist the guests in finding if the book they needed is available and as well as
give them the exact location of the book.
With this system, City Librarian can easily monitor, manage and organize books,
track daily transactions and save guest information. The guest can also locate books
easily since he can ask the librarian the location and the availability of the books he is
looking for.
Project Context
A Computerized - Library System is software that will handle basic and
systematic function of the library. The system would provide basic set of features by
adding new books, updating book information, searching, borrowing and returning
books and generation of reports.
In this system the librarian can maintain the records of books and enable to
determine how many books are issued and likewise determine the available books in
the library
Purpose and Description of the Project
Purpose of the Project
The Computerized- Library System is a proposed system to be used by the City
Librarian of the City of Koronadal to manage booklist, inventory and monitoring the
transactions in a library
To ease the transactions in the library, i.e., borrowing of books, storing of books,
search engine for books, manage members of the library and secure the library
system. The librarian and the library users still use the manual way of transacting of
borrowing and returning of books. The librarian use log books in listing the books.
They use library cards and card catalogues in searching for reading and reference
materials.
This system is intended for the City Employees, students and walk-in clients to
identify objectives that will be applicable to the acquisition of the system. The
system provides a database to assist in organizing the objectives that can be used as
applicable.
Description of the Project
This is user- friendly system that manages the inventory of books and the
borrower’s record and monitors the transactions in the library.
The Computerized- Library System improves the capacities of those who
maintain the library. It is easier to determine whether a particular book is on-shelf
or not. In addition, they can easily identify when will the borrowed material be
returned and if a borrower has failed to return the book on its due date.
Furthermore, the librarian will be guided when it comes to recognizing new
inventory books, letting them arrange it promptly and accordingly.
Objectives of the Project
General Objectives
The objective of the study is to develop a Computerized- Library System
for the City Library of the City of Koronadal that will help manage the city employees,
walk-in clients, and students’ records, as well as to monitor the transactions of the City
Library.
Specific Objectives
To make transactions faster and easier with lesser effort.
Easy to find the locations of the books.
Easy to locate the list of borrowers.
To print out immediately the reports especially the inventories
Scope and Limitation of the Project
The system will help reduce the time and effort of the Librarian in terms of
adding, editing, searching, deleting of books and printing of reports. The system can also
help in reducing the expenses of the library such as papers, folders, pens and other
materials needed in their current system. The system is LAN-based that enables the
Librarian to share the records of the students, walk-in clients and city employees such as
the borrowing books, returning books and searching books. The borrower’s personal
information/data may be stored upon the request of authorized librarian. The assigned
librarian is the only one who can share any of the records/data of the students. The
system is not capable of sharing its data from other databases. The system will be
developed using the Visual [Link] ([Link]).
Significance of the Project
This system may bring some benefits to the following individuals:
Librarian – the system will help to generate all the reports in a minimum amount
of time and minimizes the used of papers such as log books, and other forms may use,
lessen the time to locate the locations of books.
Future Researcher – this study would help the researchers to be aware and
knowledgeable of the process. It would help them to be a better and it can be help as a
future reference for more studies in the future.
