 Motivation:
Teacher will show an example of a print ad.
Then, ask:
Does it convince you? What makes you convince?

Students will watch a video commercial of a toothpaste brand.

C. Analysis
After watching the video commercial, ask the following questions.
1. What product is being advertised?
2. Who is the target audience of the commercial?
3. What is the purpose of the commercial? (to persuade, to entertain, to educate, to
inform)
4. Did the commercial catch your interest/attention?
5. What techniques were been used to attract the viewer's attention and to make the
advertisement believable?
6. Is the message of the commercial clear to you?
7. Is the information in the commercial based on true evidence and facts? Or merely an
opinion and hearsay?
8. Would you buy the product been offered?

C. Abstraction
Deal or No Deal?
Deepen the lesson through the use of a game. Each group will be tasked to do a deal sign if
the statement is related to persuasive speech and the no deal sign if it is not related. After
which, the teacher will process the activity and give additional information about the topic.

Qualities of an Effective Persuasive Speech

D. Application
The class will be divided into five groups. Each group will be given a strip with a
corresponding task.

Group 1 – Think of a television commercial endorsing a particular product.


Group 2 – You are a politician who will give a speech at the last leg of the campaign period.
Group 3 – You are a coordinator of a children foundation for cancer patients. You are
looking for potential donors to fund the medication of the children.
Group 4 – You are an insurance agent of St. Peter. You are ask to present a health insurance
to a group of elderly.
Group 5 – You are a beauty consultant of a renowned cosmetics brand who offers a free
total make-over to customers in the shopping mall.

After each group, let other groups do their admiration clap if they are satisfied with the
presentation.

EVALUATION
You are the head coordinator of Department of Tourism. Make a persuasive speech promoting
the Philippines using the tag line "It's More Fun in the Philippines." Be guided on the rubrics
below.
