CLASS OBSERVATION
DATE: JUNE 28, 2019
GRADE 7 – BARANGAY @ 11:00 – 12:00 am
I. Objective
A. Learning Session 1
Competencies The students are able to investigate properties of unsaturated or
saturated solutions.
B. Learning Outcome The students describe some observable characteristics or properties of
LO1. common solutions found at home or in stores.
Select and use
measuring instruments
C. Learning Objectives At the end of the period, the students are expected to:
(KSA) 1. Recall the components of a solution;
2. Identify solutes and solvents in various kinds of solutions;
3. Describe the difference between saturated and unsaturated solutions;
4. Observe how to prepare saturated and unsaturated solutions; and
5. Understand how different concentration of solution is expressed in
percentage by mass and percentage by volume
II. CONTENT SATURATED AND UNSATURATED SOLUTIONS
III. LEARNING

IV. PROCEDURES
A. Preparation/ Prayer
Classroom Routine Checking of Attendance
Classroom Management
o Students are asked to proceed to their respective group area by
group.
B. Reviewing Motivation (Picture Analysis)
previous lesson/ The class will be group into 3 and the teacher will provide strips of
paper that contains a 3D image of the different concentrations of
presenting the new sugar and water. Students tasks is asked to arrange it and the first
lesson group to solve the puzzle will be given points.
Guide Questions:
J. V. Ferriols National High School
[Link], Davao City ([Link]. 291-4568)
1. Who can determine the image?
2. Describe each picture.
C. Establishing a Activity (Teacher-Demonstration)
After performing the activity, the students will be able to determine how
purpose for the much solid solute dissolves in a given volume of water. Students will
lesson also be able to describe what a saturated solution is.
o Strategy Materials Needed:
6 teaspoon sugar, 1 cup of water, 1 measuring cup, beaker, 2 small
transparent bottles and 2 stirring rod.
The teacher will pour 20ml (approximately 2 table spoons) of water in
small transparent bottle, added by ½ teaspoon of sugar and stir.
Guide Question:
What is the appearance of solution? Write your observation in
your science notebook.
Add another ½ teaspoon of sugar and stir the solution to dissolve it. At
this point, the teacher have added 1 teaspoon sugar.
Add another 1 teaspoon full of sugar to the solution.
Another 1 teaspoon of sugar will be added to the solution of the same
cup until the sugar no longer dissolves.
Guide Questions:
How many teaspoons of sugar have the teacher added until the
sugar no longer dissolves?
How many teaspoons of sugar dissolved in 20ml of water?
D. Presenting The teacher will present the PowerPoint Presentation about the topic
and students are asked to jot down the important notes projected.
examples/
instances of the The teacher will ask the following guide questions:
new lesson When can you say that a solution is considered saturated?
Which part of the demonstration is an example of unsaturated?
The teacher will present a comparison between saturated and
unsaturated solutions.

E. Discussing new Abstraction (Describing Mixture Quantitatively)
One way to describe a mixture quantitatively is to
concepts and report the percentage by mass or percentage by
practicing new volume.
skills # 1 Formula: % by mass
% by mass = mass solute x 100
mass solution
mass solution = mass solute + mass solvent
Formula: % by volume
% by volume = volume solute x 100
volume solution
volume solution = volume solute + volume solvent
Sample Exercises will be given by the teacher:
1. What is the % by mass if 2.5g of salt is dissolved in 25.0g of
water?
Given:
2.5g of salt = mass solute
25.0g of water = mass solvent
Asked: % by mass
Formula used:
mass solution = mass solute + mass solvent
% by mass = mass solute x 100
mass solution
Solution:
Mass solution = 2.5g of salt + 25.0g of water
Mass solution = 27.0 g
% by mass = 2.5 g of salt x 100
27.0 g
% by mass = 9.1%

concepts and practicing solvent.
new skills # 2
solvent: the substance in which a solute dissolves to produce a
homogeneous mixture
solute: the substance that dissolves in a solvent to produce a
homogeneous mixture

Note that the solvent is the substance that is present in the greatest
amount.
Many different kinds of solutions exist. For example, a solute can be a
gas, a liquid or a solid. Solvents can also be gases, liquids or solids.
F. Developing The teacher will asked the following:
mastery (Leads to 1. What is a solution?
formative 2. What is the difference between saturated and saturated solution?
assessment # 3 3. How to describe mixture quantity?
G. Finding practical
The teacher will asked the following:
application of
1. Why is it important to know the concentration level of solution?
concepts
2. What are the solutions found at your home or at store?
H. Making A solution is a homogenous mixture of substances with variable
composition. The substance present in the major proportion is called
generalizations the solvent, whereas the substance present in the minor proportion is called
about the lesson the solute. It is possible to have solutions composed of several solutes. The
process of a solute dissolving in a solute is called dissolution..
I. Evaluating Students will be asked to answer the following questions.
learning
1. What is the % by mass if 3.5g of salt is dissolved in 35.0g of water?
2. What is the % by mass if 5g of salt is dissolved in 50.0g of water
3. Additional Check your Understanding by analyzing the given problem. To be written
in your science notebook.
