ASSUMPTIONS
The following assumptions are made regarding this study:
1. The research designed and methodology were approved by the research adviser.
2. The interviewee answered the interview questions accurately.
3. The respondents answered the survey truthfully.
4. The attitude of a group of respondents are stable.
DEFINITION OF TERM
K-12 - a term used in education and educational technology in the United States, Canada, and
possibly other countries, is a short form for the publicly-supported school grades prior to college.
These grades are kindergarten (K) and the 1st through the 12th grade (1-12).
4
Pornography- is the portrayal of sexual subject matter for the exclusive purpose of sexual
arousal.

THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
Presented in chapter 2 are the related literature and studies the researchers had
reviewed which gives deeper insights and wide perspective on the researcher’s problems.
Included in this chapter are the literatures and studies related to the topic, hypothesis,
conceptual frameworks and synthesis.

According to Miller (2004) Pornography leads men to judge their mates as sexually less
attractive, resulting in less satisfaction with their affection, physical appearance, and sexual
behavior. The need for more intense sexual stimulation brought on by pornography can lead to
boredom in normal relationships and a greater likelihood of seeking sexual pleasure outside of
marriage. Repeated exposure to pornography leads the viewer to consider “recreational sexual
engagements” as increasingly important, and changes the viewer to being very accepting of
sexual permissiveness.
sporting event that amounts to innocent fun” with inconsequential effects on emotions,

perceptions, and health. This is not the case, however. Pornography leads to distorted perceptions
of social reality: an exaggerated perception of the level of sexual activity in the general
population, an inflated estimate “of the incidence of premarital and extramarital sexual activity,
as well as increased assessment of male and female promiscuity,” “an overestimation of almost
all sexual activities performed by sexually active adults,” and an overestimation of the general
prevalence of perversions such as group sex, bestiality, and sadomasochistic activity. Thus, the
beliefs being formed in the mind of the viewer of pornography are far removed from reality. A
case could be made that repeated viewing of pornography induces a mental illness in matters
sexual.
sexual relationships are recreational in nature, men are generally sexually driven, and women are
sex objects or commodities. These are called “permission-giving beliefs” because they result in
assumptions that one’s behavior is normal, acceptable, and common place, and thus not hurtful
to anyone else. These beliefs are deepened and reinforced by masturbation while viewing
pornography, a frequent practice among those who use pornography to deal with stress.
According to Greek (2005). When male and female viewers do not believe that exposure
to pornography has any effect upon their personal views or lives, they more readily internalize
abnormal sexual attitudes and increase the likelihood that they will engage in perverse sexual
behaviors. All of these distortions amount to a serious misunderstanding about sexuality and
relationships and are a dangerous distortion of the nature of social life. Those who perceive

According to Turner (2004) Addictive pornography use leads to lower self-esteem and a
weakened ability to carry out a meaningful social and work life. A survey of pornography addicts
found that they disliked the “out of control” feeling and the time consumption that their
pornography use engendered. All of the sexual compulsives reported they had felt distressed and
experienced impairment in an important aspect of their lives as a result of their addiction. Almost
half of the sexual compulsives said their behavior had significant negative results in their social
lives, and a quarter reported negative effects on their job. In another survey, sexual compulsives
and sexual addicts were 23 times more likely than those without a problem to state that
discovering online sexual material was the worst thing that had ever happened in their life. No

study of different pornographic media found violence in almost a quarter of magazine scenes, in
more than a quarter of video scenes, and in almost half (over 42 percent) of online pornography.
A second study found that almost half the violent Internet scenes included nonconsensual sex.
The data suggest “a modest connection between exposure to pornography and subsequent
behavioral aggression,” though when men consume violent pornography (i.e. depicting rape or

predict adolescent uncertainty about sexual beliefs and sexual orientation. It is impossible
to say if the pornography is causing this uncertainty or if it just that uncertain youth seek

punitive towards women. In a very interesting experiment some randomly chosen men were
shown pornography and some were not. Both groups were brought back a week later and
paired with a female who was part of the researchers’ team. At the beginning of their
meeting the woman mildly rejected the man by saying that she wasn't attracted to him.
They then played a guessing game and the man had the option of physically
punishing the woman if she got the answer wrong. The men who had been exposed to
It has been suggested that pornography makes men more likely to act out violently
against women. This type of research would be unethical, so it has never been proven. For
some couples pornography is an issue and for others it is not. When coup les come
for therapy because of a pornography issue therapists differ in how they approach the issue.
Some will encourage the woman to accept the pornography and begin trying to help her
with the issues the pornography is causing. Other therapists will accept the couple's
assessment of the problem and begin treating the pornography usage. Often in these
10
situations the porn usage has become an addiction. If it weren't an addiction, the man
would likely have given up the porn usage when he realized it was an issue for his partner.
When pornography is an issue it can feel like an affair. If the female partner is not
comfortable with pornography, porn usage will usually either stop or become secretive.
When the usage continues in secret, the lying, the feeling of there being these "other
women", the loss of intimacy, and the fact that the man is seeking comfort from another
source makes the dynamics in the relationship very similar to those created by cheating.
Sometimes the relationship between the pornography and the man can be stronger than the
relationship between the couple. Couples therapy can help in these instances by helping the
According to Smith (2009 many male sexual obsessions appear to form after a single
exposure, rather than after repeated pairings of neutral stimulus and an arousing stimulus. In
other words viewing a pornographic scene could reinforce latent sexual scripts or arousal scene.
According to Gray (2016) nothing about sexuality is black and white. There are just
many sets of sexual preferences as there are people in the word. We all are come with our unique
sexual wiring, and that’s something to be celebrated and explored (not buried and dismissed).
Many people who would not know that very were gay, bisexual or “kinky” had it not been for
the pornography that they were able to expose themselves to. This isn’t to say that they wouldn’t
have eventually discovered their sexual orientation by the other form of sexual self-reflection,
but if dipping their toe into other form of pornography helped them save years of their lives of
himself to self-selected pornography with how such person engage in sex. However it has
remained contradictory whether such exposure contracts negative or positive effects on the

about the nature of sexual intercourse. Men who habitually look at pornography have a higher
tolerance for abnormal sexual behaviors, sexual aggression, promiscuity, and even rape. In
addition, men begin to view women and even children as “sex objects,” commodities or
instruments for their pleasure, not as persons with their own inherent dignity.
pornography has a biological substrate, with dopamine hormone release acting as one of the
mechanisms for forming the transmission pathway to pleasure centers of the brain. Also, the
men who are involved in pornography feel less satisfied with their marital sexual relations and
less emotionally attached to their wives. Women married to men with a pornography
addiction report feelings of betrayal, mistrust, and anger. Pornographic use may lead to infidelity
12
and even divorce. Adolescents who view pornography feel shame, diminished self-confidence,
among female and male viewers, and is associated with more lenient views of extramarital
sexual relations and recreational attitudes toward sex. A 2000 study of college freshmen found
that the habitual use of pornography led to greater tolerance of sexually explicit material, thus
requiring more novel and bizarre material to achieve the same level of arousal or interest. For
example, habituation may lead to watching “depictions of group sex, sadomasochistic practices,
and sexual contact with animals,” engaging in anal intercourse, and trivializing “nonviolent
According to Wood (2007). Pornography and sex in general, feel so good, that they could
become addictive. It also makes intuitive sense that, because sex releases neurons chemicals in
the brain, that those neuron chemicals could act like drugs on the brain. When we hear people
talk about starting with one form of pornography, like Playboy Magazine, and ending up later
looking at some extreme forms of porn like rape porn or bestiality, it makes common sense for us
to worry that porn could have a tolerance effect, that might lead people to pursue harder and
harder forms of it, in order to reach the same level of stimulation. That need for greater
stimulation could also make it so that men can’t get erect with real women, but only when faced
by their fantasy images. It makes sense to all of us that we don’t want children watching
pornography. Pornography contains extreme, unrealistic depictions of sex acts that even most
adults don’t engage in. Certainly it makes common sense, that showing those images to kids
might confuse them at the least, or even warp their ideas about sex, gender and
relationships. These are all very understandable, intuitively appealing common sense ideas about
13
pornography. These same ideas once fueled the 19th Century fight against masturbation, when
boys and girls had their genitals caged, or burned with acid, to prevent them from self-pleasure.
They resurfaced in the 1980’s when Playboy was removed from convenience store shelves, and
even in current arguments in Great Britain, where the government has instituted filtering of the

According to Madamba (2012) Enjoying real-life sex less is perhaps the best-known
consequence of porn over-consumption, and a well understood problem in the 21st century. In

Angela Gregory told the BBC. Given that, it is perhaps no surprise that organizations
like NoFap – an online support community for men attempting to abstain from porn, sex and
masturbation – are more growing in popularity. The problem with grand, sweeping statements
about pornography’s effects on its consumers, though, is that one form of pornography is not the
same as another. Reading Playboy daily is not the same as watching Porn hub, for instance, just
as watching Porn hub every once in a while is not the same as logging onto an illegal torture site
in your work toilet. While many would argue the strength of porn doesn’t matter, as long as it is
14
purely fantasy and consensual, it’s likely even a mild consumption fundamentally alters the way
a person views sex. Studies have confirmed that the dopamine increase resulting from porn
potentially means users require a greater and greater sensation from real sex in order to match
According to Mateo (2014) youth are learning how to have sex from pornography and
imitating sex acts that they view in pornography and imitating sex acts that they view in
pornography, in some cases with adverse effects. Many Black and Hispanic youth may be
seeking out videos that may portray problematic sexual scripts, which could negatively influence
adolescent youth who are still relatively sexually inexperienced, in the process of becoming
sexually socialized, and internalizing sexual scripts that are presented in media.
According to Mendoza (2012) Pornography industry adapted to this desire for more
bizarre and uncommon images. An analysis of the content of Playboy, Penthouse, and Hustler
from the years 1953 to 1984 revealed 6,004 child images and an additional 14,854 images
depicting crime or violence. Furthermore, nearly two-thirds of the child images were sexual and
violent, with most of the images displaying girls between the ages of three and eleven years of
age. Each of these magazines portrayed the scenes involving children as though the child had

reluctant partners. And though there are conflicting data on the relative effects of violent versus
non-violent pornography, there is little doubt that the consumption of pornography leads to a
significant increase in “rape myth acceptance,” which involves a reduction of sympathy with
rape victims and a trivialization of rape as a criminal offense, a diminished concern about child
sexual abuse, short of the rape of children, and an increased preparedness to resort to rape. One
study at a rape crisis center interviewed 100 sexually abused women to determine if pornography
played a role in any past incidences of sexual abuse. While 58 percent could not say, 28 percent
stated that their abuser had in fact used pornography. Of this 28 percent (women who were aware
that their abuser used pornography), 40 percent (or 11 percent of the total group) reported that
pornography actually played a role in the abusive incident they experienced. In some cases, the
abuser had watched pornography before abusing the woman, in one case he used pornography
while committing the abuse, and in yet some other cases he forced his victim to participate in the
According to David (2007) there are a myriad health implications presented by the
astronomical growth of Internet pornography in the last decade. First and foremost are the
challenges to the health and safety of men and women who produce pornography. Sexually
transmitted diseases, alcohol and drug abuse, and violence are quite common among those in the
industry. This should be a growing concern for college campuses as the production of
pornography has become more dispersed with college campuses being cultivated as new

through violence, hostile attitudes towards women, and gender inequality. Furthermore, the
average age of first exposure to pornography is around 12 years of age and the pornography that
is the cheapest and easiest to access contains very high rates of violence against women and
promotes a degrading and dehumanizing form of sexuality for boys. Boys and men are the
majority of consumers of such pornography, making it the dominant sexual framework to which
17
boys are socialized and to which girls, as sexual partners, must respond. Therefore, discussions,
both in high school and colleges, about sexual health and healthy relationships should include a
overlooked as a sexual health issue is the generation gap created by Internet pornography. The
term pornography generally conjures up images of a pizza delivery guy arriving at the house of a
sexually aroused housewife or girl next door. However, the Internet has significantly reshaped
the content of pornography. Now, the most popular and easily accessible forms of pornography
contain significant amounts of violence, degradation and humiliation of women, are short, and
focused almost exclusively on genitalia. Many adults, who are beyond the years of sexual
development and exploration and who developed their sexual identities prior to the Internet, have
not encountered the new sexual scripts Internet pornography is inscribing on the sexual identities
of younger people. Thus, there is a significant gap in how older and younger adults understand
what constitutes pornography, which leaves older adults less prepared to help guide sexual
choices. One of the reasons why pornography is generally overlooked as a sexual health issue is

According to Campbell (2013). Pornography was never intended to teach kids about sex,
and sadly, that’s what’s happening. Because adults in our society are so afraid to talk with kids
about sex, and because abstinence-only sex education continues to be pervasive, kids are going
to the Internet to learn about sex. Learning about sex by watching porn is like learning to shoot a
gun from watching Bruce Willis movies. Both are fantasy-based entertainment, and by following
either one, somebody’s bound to get hurt. But, porn exposure in kids doesn’t have a life-altering,
warping effect on children. In fact, recent research in the Netherlands showed that exposure to
pornography explained less than 4% of the variance in adolescents’ behavior. This means that
96% of the reasons why these kids do the things they do have NOTHING to do with the fact that
they saw pornography. But, from the hyperbole and panic that we all hear on a regular basis, we
According to Scott (2011). People who like porn, and watch porn, tend to also be people
who enjoy sex. Sex is healthy and good for you, and so is masturbation. Even lots of sex and lots
of masturbation. There’s no scientific evidence that porn is any different to your brain than any
other form of entertainment, from television to video games. The idea that porn use
causes erectile dysfunction is bunk, and is based on a simplistic, fear-based and gender-based
view of sex, porn, masturbation and the brain, fueled by a desperate need to find an explanation
for erectile difficulties. Frequent masturbation and porn watching may affect a man's sexual
behavior, but the effect is due to masturbation, not from porn. Efforts to pathologize porn are
decrease in sex crimes, in research that has been replicated around the world. Sexual fantasy,
even bizarre, scary types of sexual fantasy, has no proven link to peoples’ behaviors. We’d like
to think they do. It makes common sense. But, engaging in sexual fantasy, even about scary,
deviant, or illegal practices, is not a major factor influencing peoples’ behaviors. Fantasy is
actually more likely to reduce the chances people act on scary, dangerous desires. Thinking
about choking your boss doesn’t increase the chances you will do it. In fact, the daydream
probably reduces your tension, allows you to resolve some emotional issues, and makes it easier
for you to go back to work. Sexual fantasies are no different, whether they are in your head or on
pornography viewers report no problems or difficulties due to their use. When porn users do,
their problems relate primarily to their relationships, their culture, their morals and their personal
functioning, not to porn. Porn use may sometimes be a symptom of problems, but no research yet
Watching pornography is associated with risky sexual behaviors, but there is no evidence that
pornography causes risky sexual behavior; people who engage in these behaviors may just be
more likely to watch pornography. It seems clear that some people compulsively watch
pornography. However, it is unclear how many people this affects (though there are many
anecdotal references to pornography addiction) or how severe such behavior can be (those who
experience a decrease in quality of life may require treatment to overcome the problem).
Pornography does typically portray aggressive behaviors towards women, but whether this
actually increases the risk of sexual assaults is unknown. Since pornography availability is
20
inversely related to sexual assaults nationwide, it’d be helpful to better characterize this work on
a more local scale to tease apart what is actually occurring. However, in the current political
climate it seems unlikely that this will happen. Consistent sexual activity is associated with better
health outcomes, but the role of pornography in maintaining a healthy sex life is poorly
understood.
According to Miller (2012) Pornography has been show to negatively affect men's
attitudes towards women. Pornography users have been shown to have less egalitarian
views, but it is unclear whether pornography use is causing this difference or if it is just
that less egalitarian men are more likely to use pornography. However, a piece of research
was conducted which had some randomly chosen men view pornography first and then
measured where they landed on the "hostile sexism" scale. The men who watched
pornography were higher on this scale than the men who didn't. This research suggests that

According to Ramires (2014). There are many negative effects of pornography, but
one of the most concerning aspects of pornography use is that users seem oblivious to how
it is changing them. In fact pornography users often report feeling positively about their
porn usage. Unfortunately, this leaves users as often the last to realize how pornography
has damaged their relationships and their psyche. Pornography usage is growing every

that are associated with pornography so everyone can make decisions and take actions that
are informed. While it wasn’t enough to declare pornography inherently addictive, the same
study did draw a correlation between brain activity and age. The younger the user, the greater the

who use pornography are more likely to have an affair. It isn't just that cheating men are
likely to use pornography; the pornography seems to cause the cheating. In one experiment
some randomly chosen men were shown pornography and, afterwards, these men were
more likely to see other women as romantic alternatives. In another experiment a group of
randomly chosen regular porn users stopped using pornography for three weeks. At the end
of the three weeks these men were more committed to their relationship. A number of other
interesting experiments have been done looking at how porn users are different in
relationships. For example, in one experiment porn users were found to be more likely to
flirt when chatting online. In another experiment couples were asked to complete a task
together and their interactions were videotaped. The couples' interactions were then rated
by observers on how committed they seemed. The couples in which the man was using
According to Philip (2005).Sexual issues and questions touch something deep inside us.
Sexual concerns and questions can turn off some of our higher reasoning functioning, and make
us react from a primal, protective, cautious place. Worries about kids and sexuality
understandably trigger powerful fears, anger, and reaction. Before we give in to those fears, and
22
allow our biases and unquestioned assumptions to dictate our choices, remember what happened
to Chicken Little. In the story, Henny Penny believed the sky was falling, and the chick’s panic
was contagious. Those who caught that panic from Henry Penny, and allowed their fear to rule
their behaviors, led her into a cave, where they thought they would be safe. Instead, they were all
eaten by Foxy Loxy, because their fear and desire for safety and protection made them
dangerously gullible. A young man contacted recently, asking for treatment of porn addiction. As
we began to assess his needs, he reported that "by the way, he was also using heroin during
binges each weekend." But because of the panic about porn, this poor young man believed that
his porn use and masturbation posed greater risk to his life and wellbeing. Use your common
sense, it’s important. But, to make good, careful decisions, you must also use your ability to
question your common sense, to suspend it momentarily, and examine the data. Our fears and
panics over porn can lead us to ignore serious issues, at our peril.
