Operation Mastermind is a multi-competitive game of strategy that will help
members to develop in many ways. It is an opportunity to learn new ways to relax,
develop relationships or camaraderie, and have fun. The program is designed to
foster healthier minds, clearer decision-making, strategically based thinking.
In addition, the Operation Masterminds program critical thinking skills, which are a
necessity for navigating daily life interpersonally, intra-personally and
introspectively.
According to scientific data, chess benefits players in various ways, but helping them
to develop faculties of their minds, which aid in developing various cognitive
aptitudes. In general, chess benefits people neurologically and cognitively. The
participants of the Operation Chess program will find that the games, competition
and tournaments are fun. Educators and facilitators will find that Chess is
developmentally educational.

The program opens with an introduction to the game, along with its history and the
rules of the game. The tutorial is conducted with visual aides through the courtesy
of both real chessboards and clips from social media mediums such as Google and
YouTube.
Next, participants can choose their own code names and team names. These names
follow the players throughout the course of the program. There are 12 levels to
ascend through ranging from Level 1 Pawn through Level 12 Mastermind, in order
to achieve the highest level of success in the program.
In the beginning, the members are all novices, in order to motivate them to all strive
for the next levels together. Teams will be formed as they begin to play and win
games. Teams mates can be promoted into tournaments through a combination of
1-on-1 play and team competitions.
During the course of the program, each weekly session is filled with strategy
updates, game play tips, real-life scenarios of various games (including those played
by the facilitator), chess strategy puzzles, group competition (co-operative
competitions), along with 1 on 1 game play.
During the first half of the program, participants compete against each other and
with each other throughout 8 levels. The first 8 levels range from Level 1 Pawn
through Level 8 Pawn. Upon reaching Pawn level 8, participants will enter a level of
the program called, “Brain Power.” During the Brain Power segment, the
participants will be challenged with different quizzes, questions regarding chess
rules, contests and puzzles, in order to achieve higher ranking in the program.
Successful participants will be promoted to officer pieces Bishop, Rook, Knight, King
or Queen. Participants will earn different capabilities that they will be allowed to perform
depending upon the level of rank that they have reached.
Teams and individuals that reach the Grandmaster level will be awarded their
Mastermind Grand Prize. There will be a final competition held to award the,
“Strategic Genius” title and prize. During the Strategic Genius competition, the
highest ranking players will compete in a series of chess games (timed, points,
puzzle strategy) for the ultimate title of, “Strategic Genius: Ultimate Mastermind.”
The champion may maintain the title until the next participant climbs through the
12 ranks, in order to challenge the champion.
