1 PREMISE

A dedicated kit has been introduced, with the purpose to restore the original conditions in
all the Technos, TechnosMP, Technos Partner and TechnosMPX units (now indicated as
Technos), after a defect in the HDD, or the replacement of this part or the CPU/DSM with
another with different characteristics (in this case check also the Bios settings. For this
operation please refer to the service manual of these equipments):

The code of the recovery CD is 8610187001.

It’s important to underline that the CD code 8610187001 is only a backup of Window NT,
in order to reinstall it, the original data and drivers correlated.
Applying this procedure all the existing data will be overwritten (archives of images,
settings, drivers…), and will be impossible to save them after.
To install Technos software version and all the other software (Imagelab, InViVo..) will
be necessary to use the software pack code 8610178XXX (according the release).

With the Technos releases 7.0A and 8.0A, some modifications has been introduced to
the installation steps, so there will be different procedures if it’s necessary to install a
release till 6.0C+Patch, a 7.0 (or 7.1) or the 8.0 (and superior).

If will be installed a different release from the original one, it’s possible that the unit
doesn’t work correctly or stops working.
If there is the necessity to perform an upgrade, before proceed with it, please refer to the
Technical Notes in order to perform all the necessary preliminary operations.

2.0 HOW TO RESTORE THE DATA

2.1 OPERATIONS WITH THE RESTORE CD

The CD 8610187001 is a bootstrap CD, so inside there are all the files necessary to start
automatically.
It’s important to underline that this procedure doesn’t work in units with the DVD drive
SCSI installed. In this case it’s necessary to restore the HDD in another PC (operations
from point 1 to 11 excepted the bios configurations that are according the PC used) or
to install the CD-ROM drive and then to install it in Technos and proceed.
In order to run the CD it’s necessary to modify the boot sequence of the BIOS, because the
default is to start the HDD first and for this the CD doesn’t work.
The steps are the following:

1 switch on the unit and press “DEL” till the “Bios setup” appears (if asks for a
password write “MISTRAL”)

2 if the Technos units have the Pentium 200MHz CPU installed (till s/n 4171*) go to
point 3, if it’s a Celeron CPU 500MHz or superior (from s/n 4172*, or if it’s a TechnosMP
or MPX) go to point 5

NOTE *: the model of CPU/DSM 1 indicated according the s/n is with reference at the
original configuration of the unit. For all the modifications is reliability of the
Subsidiary/Distributor to trace them and select the correct settings.

3 open the “Advanced Cmos Setup” and change the “first boot device” from “IDE-0”
to CD-ROM”

4 insert the CD-ROM code 8610187001 in the CD-ROM driver, save end exit. The
unit will reboot. Go to the point 7

5 open the menu “BIOS FEATURES”, select “Boot sequence” and then “CDROM,
C, A” or any sequence that starts with “CDROM” (if asks for a password write
“MISTRAL”)

6 insert the CD-ROM code 8610187001 in the CD-ROM driver, save end exit. The
unit will reboot. Go to the point 7

7 when the unit will restart the restore program in the CD-ROM will start
automatically. Will appear the following DOS mask (figure 1) where it’s necessary to
select among four different options from 1 to 4

8 Pushing a number from 1 to 4 (only the number), the program will start
automatically and at the end Window NT, the various drivers and the main important tools
will be installed. In order to select the correct number please refer to the table 1 below:

NOTE*: If you are not able to understand the capacity of your HDD, select always the
option with the greater HDD (i.e. if you don’t know if the unit is Pentium 200MHz with
HDD greater or not than 8 Gbyte select the option 2, so greater than 8 Gbyte).

9 At the end of the process will appear the following mask (figure 2)

10 now it’s necessary to modify again the bios settings and to restore the original
options, in order to operate normally from the HDD.
Connect an external serial mouse on COM 1 (now the trackball is disabled as mouse) and
then push the key “CTRL, ALT e DEL” at the same time to reboot Technos.

11 as soon as the unit reboots push the key “DEL” in order to enter in the “Bios setup”.
Set again to the original conditions the options modified in the point 3 or 5 (according the
CPU installed*), save the bios end exit. The unit will reboot.

12 When NT stars will ask to press “CTRL+ALT+DEL” to log on. Push it all the time
the unit requires it. After all the configurations, it won’t be necessary.
Will appear a window of login. Set the “User” as “Administrator”, password “MISTRAL”.
In this condition the trackball is not working and it’s necessary to use the external serial
mouse.

13 In units with the external SCSI board installed (options 3 and 4 of table 1) it’s
necessary to check if the SCSI configuration is correct according the board present.
In CPU/DSM1 with IC=3 or CPU/DSM 2 and 3 with IC=1 (the label with the right
number is placed on the board) is installed the model Tekram, and the program install as
default the drivers of this one.
In these units no modifications are requested, so skip to the point 15.
In units with CPU/DSM1 with IC= 0, 1 or 2, or CPU/DSM2 and 3 with IC=0 it’s installed
a SCSI board Adaptec and for these units is necessary to disable the Tekram, set as
default, and select this type, following the instructions of point 14.

14 Enter “My computer → Control Panel → Devices”. Will appear a list of devices
and it’s necessary to select “trm3x5”. Push the key “Startup” and check the option
“disable” then push “OK” and “YES” in a warning message that may appears.
Then return in the list of devices and select “aic78xx”, push the key “Startup”, then select
the option “Boot”, push “OK” and “YES” in a warning message that may appears.
Exit the menu.

15 Open the “Control Panel” (Start → Settings → Control Panel) , run “System” tab
“STARTUP\SHUTDOWN” and set “Show list for” at 3 seconds.

Open the “Mouse properties”, select “Motion” and set “pointer speed” to “Fast” (max to
the right). Confirm with OK.
Open “Date/Time”, select “Time Zone” and check that the option “Automatically adjust
clock for daylight saving changes” has been disabled, otherwise disable it and exit

16 In “control panel” run “Network” and check in the tab “Protocols”. Select the
“TCP/IP” select “properties and set the address in the following way: for the unit s/n 4001
select the address 127.1.0.1, the s/n 4002 address 127.1.0.2 and so on till unit s/n 4255
with address 127.1.0.255, for the unit s/n 4256 address 127.1.1.0 and so on till the
maximum address possible 127.127.255.255.
Set the value “Subnet mask“ 128.255.255.0. Do not write any “Default Gateway”.
These values are addresses of loop back and not real, but are useful to check the TCP\IP.

17 open NT Explorer and run the program “Prodid.exe”, present in the dir.
“Util/prodid” of the CD code 8610187001. With this program you’ll set the s/n of the unit
and the nr. of the Window NT licence in all the internal registry of the unit.
In figure 3 there is the mask of the “Prodid” program

In “Numero di Serie” insert the licence number of NT (you can find in the document
enclosed with the unit). In case of units with the licence of WIN XP enclosed in the place
of the licence of Win NT (this modification is due to the obsolescence of Win NT), leave
the number proposed automatically by the program.
In “Organizzazione” check that is written “Esaote S.p.A.”.
As “Utente” and “Computername” write “Technos_s/n” (i.e. Technos_4089). At the end
select “Conferma Dati”.

18 Run the program “Newsid.exe” present in the dir. “Util/sid” of the CD 8610187001
and select “Apply New Sid” (figure 4)

19 At the end will appear the mask of figure 5. Confirm with the OK. The unit will
reboot.
The CD code 8610187001 now is not more necessary; remove it.

Now it’s necessary the Technos service pack code 8610178XXX (according the
release).
As introduced before there are differences in the installation procedures according
the software releases. The next paragraphs will indicate the steps to follow, related to
the release you are going to install.

Do not install a different Technos and Imagelab release from the original one; it’s
possible that the unit doesn’t work correctly or stops working.
If there is the necessity to perform an upgrade, before proceed with it, please refer to the
Technical Notes in order to perform all the necessary preliminary operations.

2.2 SOFTWARE INSTALLATION WITH RELEASE TILL 6.0C+Patch

1 at the reboot of the unit, push “CTRL+ALT+DEL” as requested; a window of login

appears. Set the “User” as “Administrator”; the password is “MISTRAL”. Press Enter

2 insert the Service Pack for Technos code 8610178XXX (according the release).
install MedEMail. In the directory MedEmail_86200…. of the CD select the subdirectory
Disk 1 and start “Setup.exe”. Confirm the setting proposed excepted the Destination
Directory that will be changed with the “BROWSE” key from “C:\Program files\Biosound
Esaote\MedEmail“ to “D:\Program files\Biosound Esaote\MedEmail“ (figure 6). Confirm
the creation of this new directory. At the end click “Finish”. Do not restart

3 open the folder Imagelab 861.. of the CD, open the disk 1 and double click on set-
up. The program will start the upgrade of Imagelab.
Confirm the first windows with” next”; confirm the folder D:\Imagelab, where the
program will be installed. Check that “Technos installation” has been selected in the “Set-
up Type” window, and then confirm all the other options with next. At the end restart
Technos.

4 at the reboot of the unit push “CTRL+ALT+DEL” as requested; a window of login

appears. Set the “User” as “Administrator”; the password is “MISTRAL”. Press Enter

5 open the folder of the CD-ROM “MainSW_86….” Where there is the Technos’
software. Open the Disk 1 and click on Set-up.
Confirm all the options proposed with “next”. At the end of the set-up the unit will ask,
“Would you like to replace firmware files (see figure 8).
Answer “Yes” The unit will install the dir “Uscnf” automatically **.

NOTE **: this procedure is referred starting from Technos release 3.0B

6 search the new revision of the dir. “Uscnf” in the CD-ROM using the browse, select
it opening the dir. “Uscnf 861….” and make a double click on the subfolder “Uscnf” (see
figure 9 and 10). Confirm with OK.
Will appear a window as shown in figure 11. Confirm with next and wait. The unit will
install automatically the files in the dir. “Uscnf”.
At the end of this procedure the unit will reboot.

7 at the reboot, when the first blue window appears, press the “shift” key till a
window of login appears. Set the “User” as “Administrator”; password “MISTRAL”.
Press Enter. If appears a presentation window of Internet Explorer disable the option
“show this next time you log on”.

8 open NT Explorer and go on the disk “D:”; click with the right key of the mouse the
directory “AudBin” and select “Properties” (figure 12)
In the tab “Security” select “Permissions” (figure 13)

Delete “Everyone” from the list of users (with “Remove”). Push “Add” and then “Show
Users”; insert “Administrator” (do not insert Administrators) and “EcoUser” in the list.
Give them “Full control” (figures 14, 15, 16, 17, 18) then push “OK”

9 add the icon of “HSS” program on the desktop, push the right mouse key and select
“NEW→Shortcut→Browse” and select the path “D:\AudBin\Bin\Release\Hss.exe” then
“Next” and “Finish”

10 Run the Technos program with the “Start” icon on the desktop; the program “HSS”
will be opened (if will appear a mask that answers “Connect to Drive” select “NO”) and
automatically it upgrades the flash memories of the boards.
When appears the message “Operation completed successfully” close the window with the
Exit key (figure 19).

11 Technos program starts automatically; select a probe and a preset. Check the unit.
Now it’s also possible to remove the external serial mouse.
Check that the VTR option is correctly set to PAL or NTSC according the Video standard
used.

If the ultrasound image and the VTR frame won’t be visualized in the right position open
the GWL program (with ALT-TAB or CTRL-ESC and select with the mouse on the
Taskbar).
In the “Service” option select the voice “Calibration” (figure 20).

For the ultrasound image appears a cross in the bottom left side. It’s necessary to move the
cursors “Horizontal Offset” and “Vertical Offset” of the “RTDC Calibration” till the cross
is correctly reconstituted (figure 21).

This operation places in the correct position the ultrasound image.

For the VTR frame push the VTR key on the keyboard. A black frame will appear that is
possible to move with the “Horizontal Offset” and “Vertical Offset” options of the “VPA
Calibration” menu. The right position is when the frame covers the left and the bottom
white lines of the video record able area (figure 21). Exit the menu.
Note that the moving direction of the black window in vertical, is the opposite of the
direction of the increment /decrement arrow.
Select “GWL” and close Technos program with “Quit”.

Keep attention during the adjustment because there is the possibility that the unit stops
with the “System error message”. This because a value not in an acceptable range has been
inserted.
To solve the problem it’s necessary at the reboot enter as “Administrator”, select the path
“D:\USFile\Backup” and to delete the file Calibrat.bck.
Start again Technos program and perform again the calibration.
Starting from version 4.0, there is also the possibility to remote control an external VTR
(from MENU→General Setup”→VTR Setup), but if one of the proposed is selected, is not
possible the VPA calibration because the overlay is still present, and the black frame
doesn’t appear.
For this reason in the “VTR Setup” menu it’s necessary to select “NONE” to perform the
VPA calibration, for the VTR frame.

2.2.1 3D SOFTWARE INSTALLATION (INVIVO SCAN NT RELEASE 3.3)

Only in case of installation of the Technos software till release 6.0C+Patch

12 If the CPU assembled is the code 9101676100 or 9101676200 (CPU/DSM2 or

CPU/DSM3) it’s necessary to install the InViVo ScanNT software (code 8610194XXX),
otherwise skip to point 19.

13 Run the setup and confirm all the options with “Next” till “Choose Destination
Location” that must be changed from “C” to “D”, leaving the same output directory.
Confirm with “OK” and then “Next”.
At the request “Select Components” remove the option “AU5 Edition” and confirm with
“Next”. Confirm with “next” all the other settings proposed and wait till the end of the
process.

14 In the window “Calibration Install” select with the “Browse” key the calibration
files to install (“Calibration\Technos\PAL” for standard video PAL or
“Calibration\Technos\NTSC” for standard NTSC). Push “OK” and wait till the message
“Copy File Finished” appears. Confirm with “OK”

15 In the window “ScanNT Hardware Settings” insert as MOD the letter of the
Magneto Optical Disk Drive, for the PC Bird the value of interrupt “12“ and as address the
value “0x320”. Confirm with “OK” then “Finish”. Reboot the unit.

16 Enter as “Administrator”, open NT Explorer and place on the sub-directory

“Config” of the directory used to install the program (“D:\Program
Files\MedCom\ScanNT”) and select all the files present in the directory (“Edit→Select
All), select “Files→Properties” and remove the check “Read-only”, confirm with OK.
Reboot the unit and enter as “Administrator”.

17 If there is the CPU/DSM2 may appear an error message at the startup of Win NT;
confirm it with “OK”. Select “Start → Setting → Control Panel” and choose “Devices”.
Select “mcbird”, press “startup” and set “manual”. Press ”Ok” and “Close” to the shown
dialog. Reboot the unit.

18 If there is the CPU/DSM3 connect a hardware key for Imagelab and a probe
enabled for 3D. If the key is not recognized make a reboot and enter as “Administrator”.
Run the Technos program with the “Start” icon select the probe enabled for the 3D. Push
the key 3D, then D1 to initialise the memory, make a scan with D2 and at the end the key
“DBase”. When appears the software ScanNT with the acquisition window active and the
probe recognized, make a measure of the rate of working of the Tracker board. This
operation must be done with only a probe for a time of 2 minutes, in a place without iron
and vibrations. To perform this operation following the next steps:

A)-Place in a surface without iron and vibrations the receiver far 30-40 centimetres
from the probe selected and the tracker connected on it. the probe and the receiver

must be orientated to the “Working Hemisphere” of the receiver (the opposite side
of the one where enters the connecting cable with the unit)

B)-Select the hidden key with a click between the voice “Resolution” and the
indication “3D Resampling”. Will appear a request of confirmation. Confirm and
will appear the Log file, wait and will appear the window “CheckPanel”. Select
from the various options “Tracker”

C)-Put the window “Configure Tracker Settings” on the screen and select the key “
Get period duration” and confirm with the key “OK” the message shown. Wait till
the end of the scan without touch nothing. At the end confirm with OK

D)-Save the configuration pushing “Save configuration”, will appear a new window
“Configuration I/O”. Select the probe used pushing on the related checkbox. Then
push the key “Save” and confirm the request of saving data and the request to
overwrite the existing file of the probe. Close the configuration pushing the “Close”
key both in the window of “Configuration I/O” and “CheckPanel”

2.2.2 FINAL STEPS

19 Select “GWL” and close Technos program with “Quit”. Go to “Start”, select “Run”
and edit “rdisk /s-“ and press Ok (figure 22). Wait till the end.

20 Restart the unit. Do not enter as “Administrator”. Sometimes can happen that the
unit doesn’t start or remain stopped. Turn off the unit with the green button and turn on
again.

1 at the reboot of the unit, push “CTRL+ALT+DEL” as requested; a window of login

appears. Set the “User” as “Administrator”; the password is “MISTRAL”. Press Enter

2 insert the Service Pack for Technos code 8610178XXX (according the release) and
open the Dir. SP6NT. Run the file “sp612….exe”. This operation upgrades the service
pack of WinNT from 4 to 6. Confirm the option “Accept License Agreement…” and
deselect the checkbox “Backup files...” then push install. When the process will finish
push “Restart” to reboot the unit and Enter again as “Administrator”.

3 install MedEMail. In the directory MedEmail-862…. of the CD select the

subdirectory Disk 1 and start “Setup.exe”. Confirm the setting proposed excepted the
Destination Directory that will be changed with the “BROWSE” key from “C:\Program
files\Biosound Esaote\MedEmail“ to “D:\Program files\Biosound Esaote\MedEmail“
(figure 6). Confirm the creation of this new directory. At the end click “Finish”. Do not
restart

4 open the folder Imagelab 861.. of the CD, open the disk 1 and double click on set-
up. The program will start the upgrade of Imagelab.
Confirm the first windows with” next”; confirm the folder D:\Imagelab, where the
program will be installed. Check that “Technos installation” has been selected in the “Set-
up Type” window. Confirm all the other options with next. At the end restart the unit.

5 at the reboot of the unit, push “CTRL+ALT+DEL” if requested (push all the times
the unit requests it); a window of login appears. Set the “User” as “Administrator”,
password “MISTRAL”. Press Enter

6 Open the folder “MainSW-861…” where there is the Technos’ software. Open the
Disk 1 and click on Setup. Confirm all the options proposed with “next”.
The setup process will show a mask (see figure 23) where it’s indicated the s/n of the
system. If the data are correct confirm with “Yes”, otherwise modify it pushing “NO”.
It will appear another mask (figure 24); on it write the correct data and confirm with
“NEXT”. The process will return to the mask of figure 23. At this point confirm with
“Yes”. The unit will proceed with the installation.
Continue with the installation process confirming all the options eventually proposed.

7 At the end of the set-up the unit will ask: “Would you like to replace firmware
files” (figure 8). Answer “Yes” .The unit will replace the dir “Uscnf” automatically.

8 search the new revision of the dir. “Uscnf” in the CD-ROM using the browse, select
it opening the dir. “Uscnf-861….” and make a double click on the subfolder “Uscnf” (see
figure 9 and 10). Confirm with OK.
Will appear a window as shown in figure 11. Confirm with next and wait. The unit will
install automatically the files in the dir. “Uscnf”.
At the end of this procedure the unit will reboot.

9 at the reboot; when the first blue window appears press the “shift” key till a window
of login appears. Set the “User” as “Administrator”; password “MISTRAL”. Press Enter.

10 add the icon of “HSS” program on the desktop, push the right mouse key and select
“NEW→Shortcut→Browse” and select the path “D:\AudBin\Bin\Release\Hss.exe” then
“Next” and “Finish”

11 Run the Technos program with the “Start” icon on the desktop; the program “HSS”
will be opened (if will appear a mask which answers “Connect to Drive” select “NO”) and
automatically it upgrades the flash memories of the boards.
When appears the message “Operation completed successfully” close the window with the
Exit key (figure 19).

12 Technos program starts automatically; select a probe and a preset. Check the unit.
Now it’s also possible to remove the external serial mouse. Check that the VTR option is
correctly set to PAL or NTSC according the Video standard used. If the ultrasound image
and the VTR frame won’t be visualized in the right position open the GWL program (with
ALT-TAB or CTRL-ESC and select with the mouse on the Taskbar). Repeat the
operations described in the point 11 of the paragraph 2.2 of this document.

2.3.1 3D SOFTWARE INSTALLATION (INVIVO SCAN NT RELEASE 3.4)

13 If the CPU assembled is the code 9101676100 or 9101676200 (CPU/DSM2 or

CPU/DSM3) it’s necessary to install the InViVo ScanNT software (dir. SW_3D-861…in
the CD 8610178XXX. In case there is the DSM2 or 3 it’s necessary to check that the
hardware key for 3D is correctly connected (both old Medcom key or new key produced
according s/n of the system) and write the password (only for new key.

14 open the folder “SW_3D 861…\disk 1” and run the “setup.exe”. Confirm all the
option proposed with “next” till “Choose destination location” where it’s necessary to
check that the path is: “D:\Program Files\MedCom\ScanNT”.
If it’s different modify it, then confirm with next till another mask, where it will be
necessary check if the path inserted before is correct. Then confirm with next till the
program starts the upgrade.

15 In the window “Calibration Install” select with the browse key the calibration files
to install. The right path is: “\SW_3D-861…\Calibration” of the CD. Confirm with OK.
When the copy has been finished a message “Copy File Finished” will appear. Close it
with “OK”.
Starting from the release 3.4 both the files for PAL and NTSC are installed. The system
will use the right ones according the standard selected from the user.

16-After this will appear a mask, which summarizes the settings.

Check that they are set according the data below (see figure 25).

About Memory Setting: in units with 512MB of RAM installed the value “keep free
memory” to set is “100”. If there are 256MB the value to set is “25”.
Press “OK” to confirm the data.
The system ends the setup and asks for the reboot. Reboot and enter again as
“Administrator”.

17 Enter in the dir “Config” under “D:\Program Files\MedCom\ScanNT” and select all
the files. With the right key select “Properties”; in “General” check that the option “read-
only” is disabled. If it’s selected deselect and confirm with “OK”. Repeat this operation
for the files under the sub-folders PAL and NTSC and for the “Config” folder itself.

18 Reboot the system. If I have the DSM2 I have to follow the instruction of this point
otherwise if there is the DSM3 skip to the next.
Enter as “Administrator”; confirm with “OK” if a warning message of Win NT appears.
Go in “Control Panel” and run “Devices”. Select “Mcbird” push “startup” and select
“Manual”; confirm with “OK” and then with “Close” the next dialog, which shows the list
of the devices. Close all the windows and reboot the system. Enter as “Ecouser” and check
the unit. Go to point 25

19 If I have the DSM3 I have to proceed with the 3D calibration.

20 At the reboot enter as “Ecouser”. Access to the InViVo ScanNT program.

Push the icon for the acquisition and then double click with the mouse arrow between the
keys “3D resampling” and “Resolution” placed on the right side of the screen where there
is a hidden key. It will appear a warning message in the window “Configuration Area”,

necessary to modify some parameters on the window “Configure Tracker Settings” (figure
28) so select it (it’s under the other window) and press the key “Find best MR”.

During this operation it’s necessary to place the probe with the receiver very close the
transmitter (30-40 cm), and do not move them.

23 Confirm the message shown in the window “Find Optimal Measurement rate”.
Now the system is making the calibration and for about two minutes it’s not possible to
touch anything.
When the calibration is finished push the “Get period Duration” in the mask “Configure
Tracker Setting” (figure 28). It will appear the mask “Find Exact Time Period” and
confirm with “OK”. Now the system makes another calibration and it’s necessary to wait
for about two minutes without touching anything.

24 When the system ends push the key “Write Master CNF” in the window of figure
28. It appears a mask “Confirmation” and confirm with “OK”. Close the mask “Configure
Tracker Setting” with “OK”.

28 wait few seconds and will appear a window of Login. Select in the “User” field the
voice “USER/Default”, DO NOT write any password in the password field and confirm
with “OK”. Skip the next point.

29 If appear a verification mask select the “OK” key without writing any password in

30 if the letter assigned to the M.O. drive is different from “F” open the voice
“Administration→Drives” and select in the list proposed the voice with “Type=MO” and

32 reboot and enter as “Administrator”. In the mask of Windows NT go in

“Start→run” and write “rdisk/s-“ in the mask present. Wait till the end of the operations.

2.4 SOFTWARE INSTALLATION FROM RELEASE 8.0A

1 at the reboot of the unit, push “CTRL+ALT+DEL” as requested; a window of login

appears. Set the “User” as “Administrator”; the password is “MISTRAL”. Press Enter

2 insert the Service Pack for Technos code 8610178XXX (according the release) and
open the Dir. SP6NT. Run the file “sp612….exe”. This operation upgrades the service
pack of WinNT from 4 to 6. Confirm the option “Accept License Agreement…” and
deselect the checkbox “Backup files...” then push install. When the process will finish
push “Restart” to reboot the unit and Enter again as “Administrator”.

3 install MedEMail. In the directory MedEmail-862…. of the CD select the

subdirectory Disk 1 and start “Setup.exe”. Confirm the setting proposed excepted the
Destination Directory that will be changed with the “BROWSE” key from “C:\Program
files\Biosound Esaote\MedEmail“ to “D:\Program files\Biosound Esaote\MedEmail“
(figure 6). Confirm the creation of this new directory. At the end click “Finish”. Do not
restart

4 Install Microsoft Internet Explorer release 5.5 SP1, by running the file
“Ie5setup.exe”, which is present in “Ie55sp1-861….\I386”.
Select the key “Accept the licence Agreement” and confirm with next.
Select the option “Typical set of components” in the “Windows update” menu (figure 29)
then “next” and wait the end of the setup. Reboot the system by pressing the finish key.

5 open the folder Imagelab 861.. of the CD, open the disk 1 and double click on set-
up. The program will start the upgrade of Imagelab.
Confirm the first windows with” next”; confirm the folder D:\Imagelab, where the
program will be installed. Check that “Technos installation” has been selected in the “Set-
up Type” window. Confirm all the other options with next. Do not restart the unit.

6 Install the codec XVID by running the file “XviD-04102002-1.exe” which is
present in the directory “Xvid –861..”. Confirm the first menu proposed with the key “I
agree” (figure 30) and change the destination folder from C to D (same directory-see
picture 31).
Start the upgrade with “Install” (figure 31). At the end of the installation confirm with
“OK” the message in the window “the codec was installed successfully” and then with
“Close” in the next window. Restart the unit.

7 at the reboot of the unit, push “CTRL+ALT+DEL” if requested (push all the times
the unit requests it); a window of login appears. Set the “User” as “Administrator”,
password “MISTRAL”. Press Enter

8 Open the folder “MainSW-861…” where there is the Technos’ software. Open the
Disk 1 and click on Setup. Confirm all the options proposed with “next”.
The setup process will show a mask (see figure 23) where it’s indicated the s/n of the
system. If the data are correct confirm with “Yes”, otherwise modify it pushing “NO”.
It will appear another mask (figure 24); on it write the correct data and confirm with
“NEXT”. The process will return to the mask of figure 23. At this point confirm with
“Yes”. The unit will proceed with the installation.
Continue with the installation process confirming all the options eventually proposed.

9 At the end of the set-up the unit will ask: “Would you like to replace firmware
files” (figure 8). Answer “Yes” .The unit will replace the dir “Uscnf” automatically.

10 search the new revision of the dir. “Uscnf” in the CD-ROM using the browse, select
it opening the dir. “Uscnf-861….” and make a double click on the subfolder “Uscnf” (see
figure 9 and 10). Confirm with OK.
Will appear a window as shown in figure 11. Confirm with next and wait. The unit will
install automatically the files in the dir. “Uscnf”.
At the end of this procedure the unit will reboot.

11 at the reboot, when the first blue window appears, press the “shift” key till a
window of login appears. Set the “User” as “Administrator”; password “MISTRAL”.

“Next” and “Finish”

13 Enter the “Control panel” and select “system”. Double click on it and enter. Select
the tab “Environment” and in the “system variables” select the voice “Path”.
Check that in the field “Value” is written the following: “D:\AudBin\Bin\Release;”.
If it’s not present, write it at the beginning of the line (keep attention to write the ; sign);
then press the keys “Set” “Apply” and “OK” (figures 32, 33).

present in the folder “Security_patch-861…”; confirm with “OK” the message that will
appear at the end of the installation. The unit will reboot.
Install the second patch of security Microsoft by running the file
“WindowsNT4Workstation-KB82…exe”, also present in the folder “Security_patch-
861…”. The unit will reboot.

Every time the unit will reboot, push “CTRL+ALT+DEL” if requested (push all the
times the unit requests it); a window of login appears. Set the “User” as
“Administrator”, password “MISTRAL”. Press Enter

5 Install Microsoft Internet Explorer release 5.5 SP1, by running the file

7 open the folder Imagelab 861.. of the CD, open the disk 1 and double click on set-
up. The program will start the upgrade of Imagelab.
Confirm the first windows with” next”; confirm the folder D:\Imagelab, where the
program will be installed. Check that “Technos installation” has been selected in the “Set-
up Type” window. Confirm all the other options with next. Do not restart the unit.

8 Install the codec XVID by running the file “XviD-04102002-1.exe” which is

present in the directory “Xvid –861..”. Confirm the first menu proposed with the key “I
agree” (figure 30) and change the destination folder from C to D (same directory-see
picture 31).
Start the upgrade with “Install” (figure 31). At the end of the installation confirm with
“OK” the message in the window “the codec was installed successfully” and then with
“Close” in the next window. Restart the unit.

9 Open the folder “MainSW-861…” where there is the Technos’ software. Open the
Disk 1 and click on Setup. Confirm all the options proposed with “next”.
The setup process will show a mask (see figure 23) where it’s indicated the s/n of the
system. If the data are correct confirm with “Yes”, otherwise modify it pushing “NO”.
It will appear another mask (figure 24); on it write the correct data and confirm with
“NEXT”. The process will return to the mask of figure 23. At this point confirm with
“Yes”. The unit will proceed with the installation.
Continue with the installation process confirming all the options eventually proposed.

10 At the end of the set-up the unit will ask: “Would you like to replace firmware
files” (figure 8). Answer “Yes” .The unit will replace the dir “Uscnf” automatically.

11 Search the new revision of the dir. “Uscnf” in the CD-ROM, using the browse key.

Starting the release 9.0A the setup of Technos software has been modified. Due to the
high dimension of the data present in the dir. “Uscnf”, the folder has been compressed
and the structure of the dir. has been modified. Now one file Uscnf.exe is present
instead of the various directories present before.
For this reason, the system will take more time than before to finish the upgrade.
In particular the unit will remain stopped few minutes (depending the type of processor)
around 85% of the setup. Do not touch the system during this period.

Select the dir. “Uscnf-861….” and confirm with OK (figure 36).

Will appear a window as shown in figure 37. Confirm with next and wait. The unit will
replace automatically the files in the dir. “Uscnf” from the old version to the new.
At the end of this procedure the unit will reboot.

12 at the reboot, when the first blue window appears, press the “shift” key till a

3.0 HOW TO INSERT THE PASSWORDS TO ENABLE THE SOFTWARE
OPTIONS (starting from release 7.0A)

1-Switch the unit on; when the first blue window appears, press the “shift” key till a
window of login appears. Change the User and write “Administrator”; the password is
“MISTRAL” (in some units it’s possible to have the password written in small letters, then
if a message of error appears it’s necessary to write again the password). Press Enter

2-Wait till WinNT ends the boot then starts Technos program with a double click on the
“Start” icon on the desktop

3-select one probe and one preset. Press the key “Menu” and select the option “System
information”. In this menu select the voice “Options”.

4-to insert a password to enable a new option push “Modify” key. Now it’s possible to
write in all the fields inserting the special passwords to enable the options requested.
I.e. if I want to enable the DICOM capabilities, I’ll have to write the password in the space
near the DICOM voice.

5-When all the password are written press “Verify” and the system will check that the
password are correctly inserted. When the check is finished the points near the various
options will change the color: green for option enabled and red for option disabled **.
In case the password inserted is not correct no warning message is shown, simply the point
remains red.

Warning: with the new release of InViVo ScanNT 3.4 the following check has been
enabled: if the transmitter or receiver are not connected (for DSM3) or if there are some
hardware problems to the boards of the 3D (both DSM2 and 3) the InViVo software
starts but immediately shuts down.
The system works the same without any error message but it’s not possible to make any
3D elaboration.
Looking to the “System Information” menu, voice “Options” the 3D (“Lite” or “FOB)
will be disabled (red mark on the left).
To start again the 3D software will be necessary to switch off the system. Connect again
Transmitter or Receiver or to solve the hardware problems and to start again the unit.
If all will be ok the program will be active again.

6-After the verify press “Cancel”. The system will close Technos program and will return
to WinNT. At this point reboot the system and check.
If you push the “Cancel” key before the “Verify” the passwords are not saved.

NOTE: It’s possible insert the passwords only when the system is in “Administrator”
mode. When the unit is in “Ecouser” condition it’s only possible to read them.

4.0 CD-R SOFTWARE INSTALLATION

This paragraph describes how to install the SW of the CD-R after the recovery (only in
case of CD-R installed). The CD-R works only starting Technos release 8.0A (or
superior). This is the last step. Perform it after the complete installation of all the Technos
software.

1-Start the system as “Administrator”

2-insert the CD of the Technos release 8.0 (8610178019 or superior 8610178XXX

according the release) and open the directory “Gear3.40-861…”.

3-start the installation with a double click on the file “setup.exe” (see next figure 4.1)

5-Change the destination disk from C to D in the setup type (same destination), with
