Chapter 5
Summary, Conclusion and Recommendation
In this Chapter, summary, conclusion and recommendation are presented.
Summary of Findings:
The purpose of this study is to determine the unviable teamwork among grade 12
HUMSS students in the University of Mindanao.
To achieve this purpose, the research sought to answer the following problems:
1. How do they apply teamwork in their activities?
2. What are their difficulties about teamwork?
3. How do these problems affect their academic performances?
4. How do the students dwell with the problem?
5. What are the possible solutions that the teachers could suggest on how they would
surpass the problem?
The following are the findings of the study:
1. Students apply teamwork in their academic activities by communicating with each
other, brainstorming in order to share the different knowledge and ideas that the
members could give and especially by listening to each other’s voices, by
disseminating the tasks to each of the members for a better function. The two most
important factors for sustaining a collaborative team environment are openness and
supportiveness. By being open and supportive of each other, teammates are able to
trust one another. To achieve a sense of openness and supportiveness, there needs to
be an opportunity for team interaction and communication.
2. Most of the common difficulties that the students face within the group points out to
the behavioral aspect. Laziness which results to not participating to the tasks that were
given, time-management by which it is very difficult for the students to handle
different tasks that were given at the same time, also there are members who instead
share good and better ideas for the team, they just joke around and gives nonsense
ideas, which false down to the fact that the people that are part of the team do not
share a common goal. It is common knowledge that students usually do not
participate, and that they end up rushing to complete the project by the deadline and
one person may refuse to contribute equally or slack off altogether which results to
unproductivity not just to the group but also as an individual.
3. The students may be affected in two ways. If the lack of teamwork will not be
resolved then the output will be a fail than to the possible outcome that was expected.
The grades will be negatively affected as well, for there is a big possibility that their
grades may also fail or will decrease and their relationship with one another will be
scarred. On the other hand, if the problem was resolved and was given focus by the
members of the team and finished it successfully, then their will not be a trouble in
their grades and their relationship with one another will just be smooth. It creates
anxiety about marks and builds boundaries with one another inside the learning area.
It also disrupts the development of a positive learning environment in a group.
4. The students dwell with the problem by communicating with each other. Talking to
the certain person who is not participating or cooperating. As for the leader’s
perspective, they usually motivate those members who are not giving their interest to
the activities that they are supposed to do. Also, making those not so participative
members realize the things that might happen in the end makes them motivated by
then, it will urge them to take action. Effective teams have teammates who are talking
and listening to each other and also have leaders that support and feedback on how to
effectively work together.
5. The most essential way to overcome the difficulty that happens within a group is
communication. With proper communication, difficult things at hand can be solved
and be mended. Solutions will be created and exact application will be vivid. Clear
and good relationship with one another must also be observed because understanding
with each other comes after it, to settle the difficulties that are present and to avoid
further problems. It further asserts that poor communication occurs when ideas are not
communicated effectively throughout the group, turn-taking is poor handled, and one
speaker may dominate throughout the group talk, leading to unnecessary conflict
behaviour.
Conclusion
In view of the discoveries, students apply teamwork in their academic activities by
communicating by each other. Sharing your knowledge as a group and giving ideas about the
topic can help students to be more effective in group activities and brain storming is really
important to listen the voices and the ideas of others and by disseminating the task to each
members for a better function. The attitude of each members can really effect the productivity
of the group. Most of the common difficulties a student can face is laziness which will lead
the group to a downfall. Furthermore groups with lack of communication can barely
understand each other and give ideas, effective teams have teammates that are talking and
listening to each other and also have leaders that support and feedback on how to effectively
work together. Proper communication with your co-members can help the group a lot. With
proper communication difficult situations can be easily finish. Understanding each other’s
side and listening to your members thoughts about the certain task can also help and build
relationship with your members that can help to finish the task faster and avoid further
problems.
Recommendation
Based on the findings and conclusion of the study, the following recommendation are
offered:
For the students who will help them learn to function in a team environment so that
they will have teamwork skill when they enter the workforce. Teamwork is produced when
all the individuals involved harmonize their contributions and work towards a common goal.
The benefit of group work is learning openness to critique, which is essential for healthy
working relationships.
For the teachers whose facing with the reality of hectic schedules, lesson plans,
parents’ meetings and constant time crunches so this research will be very helpful to them
because this will help them work as a team, they delegate tasks according to the personality
and expertise of each one of them. This type of teamwork contributes to a greater sense of
trust and accountability, and it allows teachers to feel confident about contributing their most
dynamic skills toward school improvement.
For the College students who will help them develop their skills in teamwork “For no
man is an island”. This will help them strengthen their application about teamwork and will
help them bring people together from different backgrounds and levels of experience.
Consequently, projects involving teamwork also provide opportunities for professional
development and learning.
For the telecommunications companies because it will help them for efficient
teamwork to exist, a team needs to have clear and attainable goals, through which team
members can feel accomplished and motivated. Teamwork is important in an organization
because it provides employees with an opportunity to bond with one another, which improves
relations among them. Teamwork increases the accountability of every member of the team,
especially when working under people who demand a lot of respect within the business.
For the Bureau of Fire and Protection because the cornerstone of the fire service is
teamwork, which is evident in every aspect of the profession from training exercises to the
most involved incident of our time. Firefighters are typically divided into companies (engine,
ladder, rescue, hazard man) working rotating shifts and without this teamwork, there will be
negative effect to the team and their work would not be successful.
For the Academic Institution who will help them to have effective teamwork among
the school staff because it is very important to ensure the smooth running of school. It shows
that the school has a common purpose, and this will help them to achieve the targets and
provide the support required for a great learning environment for pupils and colleagues. As
no person can be good at everything and working in a team provides a great opportunity for
the school staff to learn for each other’s skills and talents.
To the Music Industry, they can gain learning from this research because each team
needs music enthusiasts that will develop their abilities in playing musical instruments and in
sharing their skills. As a matter of fact, people that have work in a team can really encounter
arguments and disagreement with each other and so this will help them to get everybody on
the same page that can lead them to unity.
