The legend of King Arthur

1 Once upon a time, there were a brave and noble king whose name was King Arthur.
Arthur became king of England when he pulled out the sword in the stone nobody except a
king could do. This wonderful sword was called Excalibur. King Arthur had a castle at
Camelot where he ruled with Guinevere, his beautiful queen. Camelot was a romantic place
and a magical place. A magician called Merlin and a sorceress called Morgan le Fay lived
there.

2 In Camelot, at a great round table, sat King Arthur’s brave and honorable knights who
were called The knights of the Round Table. These included Sir Galahad, Sir Lancelot and
Sir Bedivere. These knights were loyal to the king and his kingdom was strong and peaceful.
King Arthur was a powerful king but his power began to fail when he discovered the love
between Queen Guinevere and his best friend Sir Lancelot.

3 Then began the long search for the Holy Grail. The Grail was the sacred wine cup used
by Christ at the Last Supper. People also said that it contained some drops of Christ’s blood.
In those days, people wanted to find the Grail because they believe that it had magical
powers. Many of king Arthur’s knights died attempting to find the Grail. After searching for
many years, brave Sir Galahad finally found the Grail and brought it back. Later, it was lost
forever.

4 Years passed and Arthur was now an old man. While he was away in France, Mordred,
his illegitimate son, seized his kingdom. So, Arthur went into battle to save England. After a
terrible struggle, he won the battle but many of his knights died. Only Sir Bedivere survived.
Arthur killed Mordred but he received a fatal wound on the head. At the end of the battle, as
the sun was going down, Sir Bedivere carried his king to the edge of the lake and laid him
down under a tree. King Arthur had one final favor to ask of his loyal knight.
