Vodafone Karnataka RCA: Handover Issues

There was an issue with 2725 adjacent cell identifier configuration errors affecting Vodafone Karnataka that could lead to handover failures and call drops. Corrective action included cleaning up handovers with duplicate BSIC and BCCH cells as well as deleting unused neighbors. This reduced the alarm count from over 1500 to under 200. Preventive measures include removing old handover definitions after site migrations, conducting regular ZEAT audits, and checking for unwanted neighbors in handover dumps.

Root Cause Analysis

Name of Customer VODAFONE KARNATAKA

Customer Reference Ticket
Type of Ticket None

Description of Problem:
Reduction of 2725 ADJACENT CELL IDENTIFIER CONFIGURATION ERROR

Impact:
No major impact due to 2725 alarms, but its indicative of bad handover definitions in

the network which can result in huge Handover failures and thereby in call drops.

Corrective Action:
ZEAT clean up done. All Handovers having same BSIC and BCCH were deleted if

not required. All unwanted neighbours still defined even after site migrations were

deleted.

Final Analysis/ Solution:-

After completion of the handover audit action GNSC team was asked to clear the

existing alarms, because these alarms will not get cleared on their own and will repeat

again. Alarm count was drastically reduced from 1500+ to less than 200.

Preventive Measure:

1) After Site migration all old Handover definitions must be removed.

2) Must conduct a ZEAT audit regularly

3) Check the complete Handover dump for unwanted Nbr presence.
