Task 3

During the first week of math lessons, students learned skills related to ordinal numbers, graphing, tally charts, pie charts, estimation, non-standard units of measurement, and symmetry. Various hands-on learning strategies were used including games, group work, exploration, building on prior knowledge, and modeling by the teacher.

Grade: Week: 1 - 7

EY 2
Day 1: Subject: Math Learning Outcome: Students will be able to use ordinal
numbers to describe the position of things in a sequence.

Strategy: learning by play – students played games to learn how to put things in a
sequence of 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and last.

Day 2: Subject: Math Learning Outcome: Students will be able to graph

objects and compare quantities using number.
Students will be able to sort data into Piktochart’s, Barograph’s, and tally charts.

Strategy: learning in groups, students learned by sitting with the same group and
sharing information.

Day 3: Subject: Math Learning Outcome: Students will be able to create tally
charts and compare data, Graph real objects and comparing quantities using number
words.

Strategy: learning through exploration, students surveyed each other and created and
sorted data in tally charts.

Day 4: Subject: Math Learning Outcome: Students will be able to create pie
charts and compare data, Graph real objects and comparing quantities using number
words.
Strategy: learning by adding to and old schema – students used their knowledge on
tally charts to transfer data into pie charts.

Day 5: Subject: Math Learning Outcome: Students will be able to predict

amounts by making educated guesses and estimation.

Strategy: learning by play – students learned by playing various estimation games with
each other.

Day 6: Subject: Math Learning Outcome: students will be able to explore and
sort non-standard units of measurement: length, mass, volume and time.

Strategy: learning through exploration – students guessed different weights of things

and sort things then confirmed their exploration with a tipping scale.
Day 7: Subject: Math Learning Outcome: students will be able to create and
explain simple symmetrical designs.

Strategy: learning through visual representation and modeling – the teacher modeled
for the students and showed them what symmetry means and how to create symmetrical
designs.
